I have had a couple of Commodore V8s over the years and they were fantastic cars. The owner touched on something that is often overlooked - I never had to repair any of mine. Just pads, oil servicing and... fuel. Lots of fuel! But, honestly, on the highway, they were actually pretty good on fuel when you weren't getting stuck into it, which... wasn't that often. I really miss mine and plan on buying another one to put in the garage soonish.
We love our V8s in Oz. Even though Holden and Ford have stopped making V8s here, we’re now getting the imported Mustangs and Cameros and Chryslers from USA in right hand drive, so it’s not all bad. The one you’re driving is best of all though.
Love this video! Modern cars really give this kind of reaction for the money. I bought the non supercharged 6.2l LS3 6 months ago and still it is an epic sounding vehicle! I chose this over the M3 and AMG63 just because it was the car that made me feel alive when I drove it. I can’t even imagine how fast this thing is! Mine was 430hp on the dyno 😱 Great video 👍
PetrolPed did such a good video making this. You can feel his emotion as he drives it which is a nice addition to the sound of the car. I keep coming back every now and then to watch it again. Always brings a smile.
"This take's the biscuit" haha..glad you love our Aussie machines. Even the Yank GM fans love them. I heard while Holden was alive it had a bunch of rev-head engineers working for them and then we were fortunate enough to have the guys at HSV that took it that step or 2 further. I'm fortunate in that I own a VF HSV R8 Clubsport. With Holden shutting down they are being gobled up like hens teeth and dont even talk about the ever increasing cost of original HSV component parts...regardless, I'm still upgrading to the 547kw supercharged pack in about a months time. As good as a Ferrari in my opinion for a fraction of the price, and so much more fun in so many ways in view of the fact its a basically a regular commodore but worked to the hilt lol
I have driven the equivalent wagon, you just get used to it. You can drive like a granny or like a demon and the car just takes it !! I have also driven the Maloo ute with 700+kw factory options, now that's a wild ride !!! I love just going 1st to 4th and giggling like a loon coz the car has that much torque... fun fun fun, glad to be an Aussie and have access to such toys.
For me this is singlehandedly THE car that I'd like to own more than anything else and this example is beyond perfection - it's got everything I'd ever want in a car! Thanks for showing it!👍👍👍
parky2310 Mate you wait till you see the new one. 583 horsepower as standard, with the Walkinshaw package it punches out around 746 horsepower. Is louder, handles better, better responsiveness etc. And of course improved interior etc. If you are in the UK unfortunately the new one is going to be in very short supply as it is quite literally the last one. But it is incredible. A true muscle car. As i said it has almost 600 horsepower as standard without the Walkinshaw package lol. Shows how crazy we Aussies are when we build a car like that, and Walkinshaw Australia ( who owns HSV the performance devision for Holden Australia) designs the Walkinshaw package for it and adds almost 200 more horsepower lol. Here that is what they have always done. Build a performance car, then desing and develop a package for it to go faster if you want. If you want performance it is something we have always managed to do. However manufacturing ends in 2017.
“This should be a good one”....hate to point out the obvious but all your videos are cracking chap. You manage to convey your experiences to those that don’t have the opportunity... love the channel
Petrol Ped if you want to try my Gtr on those roads would be happy to come down, it’s a great 50mins drive to that neck of the woods through petworth. It’s 585 Bhp so I think you would enjoy it
Not built for English country lanes, this is an Australian car, built to cover long highway miles, yeah ok, some track days too, at a rather exciting speed. Walkinshaw do all the HSV upgrades in Australia, I hear V8's every night in my suburb, doing burnouts, drifting, and just being loud, nothing unusual about it here. After all, we Aussies produced the fastest 4 door production sedan in the world way back in 1971.
Seriously - it wasn't Aston Martin, it wasn't Chevrolet, it wasn't Mercedes Benz, Lambo, Maserati, Ferrari with the fastest four-door in 1971 - it was the Ford Falcon GTHO Phase 3.
Turn it up mate. UK country lanes are where these cars are at their best. I love UK roads and I love how UK drivers use them compared to how Aussies drive.
Hi Mate! I'm from Melbourne Australia. End of the year our v8 heritage is finished and its really sad. Being young and watching Bathurst and peter Brock the legend of v8 supercars. Have a look at Hsv Vf gts. Standard 430kw. Or W1 hsv. Even our Fords were great. Fg f6 or Fgx xr8 or Xr6 turbo are great. These weapons are forever in our hearts. In Australia all these cars are heavily tuned, boosted and cammed. On the streets these cars are all 10 second machines or under. Especially the ford fg xr6 turbo's. Crazy and I'm happy that holden and Ford Australia didn't fail us, just made us so proud to be Australian
Petrol Ped If you get the chance one that is worth looking up is the GTSR W1. An incredible piece of engineering, and shows what HSV here in Australia are truly capable of. Over 600 horsepower as standard, they sourced the LS9 engine no longer in production from GM, had to ensure they could get enough to cover the project. Took the engines and then worked their magic on them, and the work HSV does is truly magic. Unfortunately in a couple of months production ends, ending in October of this year with Ford Australia production endind in October of last year. And both brands whether you are Ford or Holden down here you have to admit truly know how to build a performance car. Over the years iconic Mustang's and Comaros wouldn't compare. Ford Performance Vehicles building the F6, an inline 6 with a single turbo bunching out 368 horsepower. And though it had less power then the V8 it would beat in on the drag strip. Having driven European performance cars and falling in love with the Mercedes AMG's the performance the cars here delivered was more then competitive. The latest what you will know as the VXR8 compares and pushes more power then the C63. There were over the years where there were major differences, the interiors of the Mercs etc were well above. But the new VF Holden is comparable in many respects. It is a sad period in this country and the great cars like you enjoyed in this video soon will no longer be made. The Holden SS was imported to the US and they loved it.
Jason Crawford I am the owner of this R8 Commodore Clubby as you guys call it. Only 15 coming to the UK. If Ped wants a chance to compare these cars he needs to approach Vauxhall UK or Walkinshaw Performance.
Holden Commos 4eva. Great presentation. I'm from ADELAIDE S.A. This is where they were built. I used to work at Holdens. I drive only a 5.7L VZ SS ute, it's only a baby. The Walkinshaw Holden must be ridiculous. Well done. Really enjoyed this.
spike milligan, I would love to see what someone like, say, Reeves Callaway could do with a Holden. You clearly have a lot to learn about the Callaway Sledgehammer, a.k.a., the most powerful C4 version of the Chevrolet and, arguably, also the most powerful Chevrolet Corvette of all time.
Yea I worked at Holden Elizabeth too back in the 80's. What an icon. So sad that GM-Holden dropped the ball in Australia but fond memories and I managed to pick up a new HSV VF R8 before it all went south. Driving my car everyday is a dream. Walkinshaw pack incoming. Thanks for the legacy you left us Tom.
I loved this review because how much your personnal feels were involved in this. We could clearly see that you sincerely enjoy the car, that's very cool to watch
Nice review! Mine (I'm in NSW, AUS) is a 2016 GTS, 6sp manual, and it has been 'enhanced', not by Walkinshaw, but i do have their airbox. I now have just shy of 1000Nm of torque and 410Kw at the rear wheels (~510 at the fly wheel) - ~683 BHP - black as well. I had a different exhaust, the air ram and the pulley kit for the supercharger changed, then re-mapped etc. I'd post a scan of the dyno readout but not sure if i can here. This car is easy enough to drive around, but i agree with old mate, it can absolutely terrify you, and sometimes when you least expect it to. Despite all the traction control, it can and will step out sideways on the gear change, particularly on a very slight corner when you least expect it. Big one for newbies:- Learn at the lights, to let the car in front go, hold and then i go, otherwise i almost end up in their boot - foot on the brake to slow it down. I've had various V8's (HQ, HZ, VZ, VE etc) since i was 17, so thought i was used to it - maybe not hey. Anyhew, that's my 5 cents worth, and if you ever get the chance to drive or own one, go for it :). Cheers, Rosco
Wow Rosco...your car sounds like a proper weapon :-) A huge amount of fun I would imagine ! You could always email me ped.greaves@gmail.com as I'd love to see it. And greetings to Australia ;-)
I had a pleasure to meet Colin twice at Goodwood, what a nice, down to earth Gentleman! The car itself is a monster, like from a different planet as we probably should consider Australia ;) All the best for You Colin, also hope to meet You on another Sainsbury's breakfast ;)
I've personally never been a huge fan of the VXR8 but... big V8's are a dying breed and the sound this particular one makes :D What a noise! Makes my M3 sound like a prius! (great vid as always Pete!)
There's nothing quite like getting in the seat of a VF (or even VE) HSV thats had the works done. The sound, the rumble, the exhilaration. And all you have done to that point is start the engine. Smiles for miles.
Absolut Sehenswert man sieht den Spaß den dieses Auto macht. Danke für die Vorstellung dieses Boliden. Prima Kanal der uns Autos zeigt die wir in Europa nie zu sehen bekommen. Prima Arbeit weiter so!
When i lived in Sydney 2006-2010 i was fortunate to drive a few Holden HSV and FORD FPV cars. I was going to buy a Holden Monaro coupe but the insurance was nuts. So. Anyway i got to drive the Holden HSV W 427 . Now that was WILD !!!!!!! I did not get to drive the FORD FPV F8 but did get to drive the FPV F6 which had the turbo charged 4l straight 6 . That car was utterly fabulous, but not as Mental as the 427
So yesterday afternoon, I lined one of these up at the traffic lights in my BMW 335i E92, Im running JB4 chip, catless downpipes, new charge pipe with BOV, Akrapovic Exhaust, custom air intakes and an after market intercooler. Result. VXR8 = 1 BMW E92 = 0 Not sure what scared me more, the power or the noise!
BMW doing 5.6 to 100 for stock one yes you are not quick enough against 4.3 down a straight round the bends you might go better your lighter that's where the fun is
@@petermoygannon698 I drove Vincentia to Goulburn the back way via Neriga, racing a VF GTS. I was in an Audi Allroad 4.2 V8. He had me on the straights but that thing was no match for me in the twisties. Still one of the best drives I've ever done and made me appreciate my car all the more. Btw, mine is stock except for after market coilovers.
Nothing like the sound of a V8. And these Australian Holden V8’s are the rawest V8 sounds of them all outside a race track. That GoPro footage of the tailpipe under acceleration toward the end (around 15:40) is incredible. My Toyota V8 diesel engine is positively tame in comparison despite having a little more torque.
Second time watching this video, and it's great to see you have such fun in the best that we used to be able to serve up. Come to think about it, re-watching this video is akin to visiting the grave-site of a departed, dear friend, if you get my drift. RIP REAL HOLDENS! ( Well, at least new ones ).
@@Freedom_Now_2024 ..... I am still so stinkingly pissed off at GM for killing off *our car* . I split my time theses days between a VE Commodore and an NL Fairlane, and if it áint Aussie built, shove it! Cheers mate.
I love everything about this car. I have a white 2017 Chevrolet SS with 6-speed manual, and the sound of the engine makes me smile every drive. Sadly, the SS does not have the supercharger although some owners add it, or do other naturally aspirated upgrades.
I just acquired a 2010 ve ss manual full race exhaust and although it doesnt sound as good as this beast it sounds good enough for me mine is phantom black also...peace everyone.
And you wonder why so many Aussie blokes have smiles on their faces ? As noise goes there are only 2 that you are ALWAYS in awe of......a Merlin at full song & a VEE 8 with a good exhaust system. From Triumph Stags' 3ltr to Holden 7ltr Commodore.....! !
I am late to this party as I was not subscribed when this video was released. In the U.S this is called the Chevrolet SS which is not supercharged but plenty of guys retrofit one for about $10,000. I bought a 2017 and it sure is a blast. I rarely have the radio on as I am listening to that wonderful 6.2 liter Chevrolet LS3 rumble, burble and crackle as I row through the gears. That is a Tremec TR6060 manual transmission which is used in the Camaro, Corvette, Dodge Viper and others. The exhaust starting in 2015 is bi-modal, and you can put the car in "Touring" mode and it is quieter, but why do that? Handling is excellent (Magnetic Ride Control) and the Brembo brakes haul the car down quickly and fade free. Unleash the inner you! Be that hooligan!
Of course I do. I am just relating what is available in the U.S. from Holden. Of course, 2017 was the last year of production for the V8 cars, and now Holden sells cars imported into Australia.
I was driving behind one of these today, the first one I have ever seen in the UK. It was the standard 6.2 - no supercharger. I must say that the sound alone made me want to have one. I did a little digging on Autotrader, and found a 2009 model for £12K. Ok, I thought, I can probably run to that. Then I looked at insurance... £2350 for the cheapest quote (I'm 59 btw). Annual road tax £550. Urban fuel economy is about 13mpg. My dreams quickly evaporated.
Some (but very few ) people in Australia have converted them to LPG. I believe the VE commodore did release a factory LPG option for the V8 (Non-HSV) Commodore SS. There was the V6 LPG option as well, primarily aimed at fleets.
Great video, I used to run a TR7V8 with a single exhaust 3" bore. Not very powerful @155BHP but the noise was vaguely similar :) Only V8 I had. Now on 2nd Astra GTC VXR, lovin it.
I met the guy who owns this car, he told me you were coming to pick it up in half an hour or so.I wish i stayed to meet you now. huge fan of your channel and just wanted to say keep up the amazing work!
There are a lot of Chevy SS owners in the U.S. With that same silly kid's grin on their face! It's just too bad we didn't get a supercharger option, those grins would be even wider. Awesome video, you had me grinning just watching it!
Petrol Ped I'll bet! I need to put my son in mine so I can hear it. It's a 2016 with bimodal exhaust and I've never gotten to hear it from outside doing a hard takeoff. My son says it's great, but he's the only one I know that's heard it. The cars are so rare over here that I've never seen another one on the road. We're talking about just under 13,000 total during a 4 year production run for the Chevy SS.
Smiles for miles lol. I'll have to get you to drop over to Oz once I've upgraded my HSV VF R8 Clubsport with the W547kw Walkinshaw pack. Its a manual too ha
Back in 2010, when these things roamed the lands of Australia, you could never trust the weather man because the noise of these monsters made you think there was a constant thunderstorm everywhere you went
I bought my first V8 police pursuit car at an auction in Western Australia when I was 18yo. I updated at auction every 2 years until the WA police stopped using V8s because they were too dangerous. I never got a bad one. Super fast, super fun, super reliable and super cheap.
Trade unions killed the Aussie car industry. Kept making ridiculous wage and conditions claims until the the manufacturers said f**k this and moved to Asia. But it’s never their fault.
No worries. In Holden land they are a pretty rare option, hence they are yellow. The four pots are red and great as it is though, had a set in my lounge from a wrecked one (used engine for an LS3 swapped S2000 lol) and they are the beefiest brakes I have seen on a production car, that isn't ridiculously expensive.
They do stick out like dogs balls indeed. Very few HSVs down my way splurged for the yellow 6 pots because the red four pot APRs are good enough. It's more of a status symbol. If I remember correctly they are something like a 7000 pound option when converted to your money.
Big V8's. I remember when me and me mates jaws dropped in the late 70's when this girl pulled up in a what looked like a firebird with 528cu in badges on the side. I looked it up. They were a racing motor built in the States. 6.2l is a little under 380cu in. Back then there wasn't the restrictions now in force. 327's and 350's were considered mid range. One of my bosses had a worked 350 in his 1 ton ute. Another guy had a 327 in his Torana. It was fun development times. You could even add a turbo to your worked Yoshimura 1135 motor bike.
Would you believe me if i told you that I'm an Aussie that has never driven a Holden!!?? I love the look and i love the power but for some reason i trust no car doing over 100km if it's not a European car. My loss!!
Nice review. I'm on the lookout for one of these. I like them for their simple mechanics. Unlike zee Germans (and the British come to mention it,) the engine bay has everything you need to get at, right in front of you. Faster (cheaper) servicing. Nice to know the Aussies built a car just for me.
great shopping car used by many house wives in Australia , if you want the man version come over here and drive the tekno performance car with 1100 hp and still has aircon and all the luxury option
In Australia we affectionately call them "Clubby's" and they get attention on the road now more than ever since Holden's closure. In fact I drive the VF version and have to say even though I never did see a lot of them on the road in the 5 years I've owned mine I see a lot less around now. I suspect many of them have been garaged as investments.
Vauxhall? IT'S A BLOODY HOLDEN!!! I worked as a maintenance fitter on the V8 production line at Fishermans bend in the early 80's. Not the assembly line, the machining line, was a bloody good job.
They also produced a five door wagon & 2 door 2 seat ute variant. Now in Queens English!! A Estate car or Shooting Break & a Utilitarian Vehicle aka Ute. 😉👍🇦🇺
Yes, this is exactly what electric car supporters don't understand.Quiet is nice, absolutely, but the feel, the sound and the excitment of an ''ICE" V8 is just so much better, it's beyond words.
a very tough car indeed. its so good how at the end of the day its just a souped up family sedan but has the most beastly of an engine. shame there is no more being made. wouldve loved to have seen the direction Holden wouldve went with new technological updates

PetrolPed did such a good video making this. You can feel his emotion as he drives it which is a nice addition to the sound of the car. I keep coming back every now and then to watch it again. Always brings a smile.
The world would love Aussie V8 cars, reminds me of Mad Max n the pursuit, vs the interceptor.
Good to see other people appreciating what WE have here in Australia, self owning a a VFSSV LS3 V8.. best cars in the world
"This take's the biscuit" haha..glad you love our Aussie machines.
Love it. This is one of the last true V8s built out of Australia, I almost teared up watching an English fella get a load of our muscle. Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
I have driven the equivalent wagon, you just get used to it.
I have a Ve SSV 2011 model and now will never sell it,it's a wagon In poison ivy colour just love it
For me this is singlehandedly THE car that I'd like to own more than anything else and this example is beyond perfection - it's got everything I'd ever want in a car! Thanks for showing it!👍👍👍
My pleasure. I know the owner will be chuffed to hear that :-)
Petrol Ped No worries - and you're very welcome to come and drive my 461bhp 2000 Saab 9-5 Aero!😈😂
Wow...461bhp through the front wheels ! Would love too :-)
Yes ...I am chuffed 😆😆
parky2310 Mate you wait till you see the new one.
Thanks Stuart. That is very kind of you to say ;-)
We also built a little 6cyl coupe that beat the pants off Ford xy gt at Bathurst and any track with corners. The Holden lj Torana 1972 xu1.
@@ollylarini Didn't exactly beat the pants off it. 1971 Bathurst?
After moving to Austria, I'm trying to find one that I can import from the UK.
Cheers John :-)
Thank you. At last an Australian with a working brain.
spike milligan, I would love to see what someone like, say, Reeves Callaway could do with a Holden.
The Rotorboi Yes he... Ped clearly did enjoy it. He was scared to give it the full beans.😆 though !
The Rotorboi I loved every minute 👍
On my first visit to Australia I drove a Holden HSV up the east coast around 1000 km back in 2002 what a car, 110kmph at 1700 rpm lol
And greetings to Australia ;-)
hey rosco, you would have fun in my old vt then
I had a pleasure to meet Colin twice at Goodwood, what a nice, down to earth Gentleman! The car itself is a monster, like from a different planet as we probably should consider Australia ;) All the best for You Colin, also hope to meet You on another Sainsbury's breakfast ;)
He is a top bloke :-)
Hi Peter
.thanks for your remark.😊
Puts a smile on your dial !
So nice to see the genuine joy from driving a great Aussie icon.
👍
I drove one the full length of Australia six or so times and it is fantastic especially out on the open road.
Must have been a blast at 100 kmph
I've personally never been a huge fan of the VXR8 but... big V8's are a dying breed and the sound this particular one makes :D What a noise! Makes my M3 sound like a prius! (great vid as always Pete!)
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Once driven forever smitten !!!
Holden is dead in Australia now.
There's nothing quite like getting in the seat of a VF (or even VE) HSV thats had the works done. The sound, the rumble, the exhilaration. And all you have done to that point is start the engine. Smiles for miles.
Let's just enjoy this sound before the electric cars takes over ... Another great video Ped!
I know what you mean...a Tesla doesn't sound like this !
Petrol Ped well said...I'd just not buy one. I'd follow Clarkson on this one.
Imnotahsvbadass Kemp what's a 'Clarkson ' worth these days !!!
Imnotahsvbadass Kemp How? Clarkson said he would buy one, because he loved the power aspect.
Have you heard one with a cam ?
Absolut Sehenswert man sieht den Spaß den dieses Auto macht. Danke für die Vorstellung dieses Boliden. Prima Kanal der uns Autos zeigt die wir in Europa nie zu sehen bekommen. Prima Arbeit weiter so!
Nice review, Australia is awesome
Sure is :-)
When i lived in Sydney 2006-2010 i was fortunate to drive a few Holden HSV and FORD FPV cars. That car was utterly fabulous, but not as Mental as the 427
What a beast. Proper proper mans car
Oh yes !
Stephen Cooper yes its for sale.
LOL !
HA - yes the noise is certainly a feature attraction of these. Have a nice day.
lol i went round one in my xf ute a few years back, god damn grandma car down here i swear to god.
So much fun when they kick out while changing gears... But I personally think they look so much better with a ducktail spoiler
I’ve never seen a car review where the driver publicly displayed his/her ‘O’ face! Nice work. No substitute for cubic inches.
I just finished my third viewing. Still smiling the whole way through.
Vlaid65 ... nice to know that I am not alone. Thanks for your reply.
I come back at least once a year lol
@@Freedom_Now_2024 ..... I am still so stinkingly pissed off at GM for killing off *our car* . I split my time theses days between a VE Commodore and an NL Fairlane, and if it áint Aussie built, shove it! Cheers mate.
I love everything about this car. I have a white 2017 Chevrolet SS with 6-speed manual, and the sound of the engine makes me smile every drive. Sadly, the SS does not have the supercharger although some owners add it, or do other naturally aspirated upgrades.
Headers, cam and a tune is all it needs.
The note on this vehicle is the sweetest thing.
I just acquired a 2010 ve ss manual full race exhaust and although it doesnt sound as good as this beast it sounds good enough for me mine is phantom black also...peace everyone.
What a car. My cammed ls2 HSV GTS version is currently being supercharged and I can't wait to get it back.
NorthernUnion13 thanks mate
Lovely beast.......I knew it was an elderly bloke who owned it by the amount it stickers and badges that he has put on it...
What a beast! love the noise! 🤤
I've driven Porsches, Ferraris, Lamborghinis and all were fantastic. These Holdens are just fun and so easy to drive. They are good, very underrated.
I have a ve sv6 Commodore love it what's even better is driving my dad's GTS HSV MY GOD ITS AWSOME
You have no other choice when you drive this car 😂
Chester I am the owner of this car. You didn't fancy a G8 then ?
That is the challenge 😂
Some (but very few ) people in Australia have converted them to LPG. I believe the VE commodore did release a factory LPG option for the V8 (Non-HSV) Commodore SS. There was the V6 LPG option as well, primarily aimed at fleets.
Great video, I used to run a TR7V8 with a single exhaust 3" bore. Not very powerful @155BHP but the noise was vaguely similar :) Only V8 I had. Now on 2nd Astra GTC VXR, lovin it.
wow my favourite car this video is awesome glad you loved it!
Cheers Tom. I certainly did...totally awesome !
Tom Forrest all I can say is 😆
The value of that car has just more than doubled in the last few months.
Saw and heard this car this morning after the owner had bought his McDonald's brekkie! Sounded absolutely brilliant!!!
Anthony Swan. Dam ...can't even eat...😀...we're you the young couple?
Imnotahsvbadass Kemp No although the young couple did stand out! 😁 Had a Baseball cap on and the Blue Porsche!
You're getting famous now mate !
Anthony Swan oh yes. ...can't forget his girl friends white jeans. lol
Imnotahsvbadass Kemp 😂😂👍🏻 They were impressive!
Gotta love the sound of the supercharger whine. Much better sound than a turbo's blow-off valve. No apologies to the turbo fans in the comments.:)
Drive the Holden vf gts .. you’ll love it 😍
Hopefully one day :-)
I met the guy who owns this car, he told me you were coming to pick it up in half an hour or so.I wish i stayed to meet you now. huge fan of your channel and just wanted to say keep up the amazing work!
+Amanda Cookson Ate you coming to Breakfast Club on Sunday. I'll be there 👍
Petrol Ped Sure will be! :)
Amanda Cookson Amanda see I wasn't fibbing.

Keep an eye out for me and Ruby and come and say hi :-)
get mine in 2 weeks GTSR Maloo happy day but would of been nice to keep building them here.
Oh now the Maloo is SO cool !
stephenc4161 gtsr? Maloo
Ferne Taylor yep..its awesome
A real shame to hear of the amount of folks laid off over your way in the plants
@@tofyne basically was the HSV GTS-R saloon with a Maloo ute body over the top
Absolutely fantastic! What a monster! Brilliant video!
Thanks. It sure is. Glad you enjoyed it :-)
I wish they would've brought that version of the Commodore/G8 to the US. GM missed a golden opportunity
You got the US version, but it was dumbed down, ask your regulators why.
Just import the body kits, plenty of them here..
Yea best GM performance crew in the form of HSV could have supplied.
Chevy SS is the same base car without the body kit and engine upgrades.
That's because the Aussie showed up how poor GM USA really is.
USA cannot handle someone doing it better😁
What a review, great video and fully explains the potential of this very rare holden, its a thunder not fully maxed but still from downunder
Cheers Ron 👍
There are a lot of Chevy SS owners in the U.S. With that same silly kid's grin on their face! It's just too bad we didn't get a supercharger option, those grins would be even wider. Awesome video, you had me grinning just watching it!
Cheers, glad you enjoyed it. My grin lasted for a week !
Petrol Ped
I'll bet! I need to put my son in mine so I can hear it. It's a 2016 with bimodal exhaust and I've never gotten to hear it from outside doing a hard takeoff. My son says it's great, but he's the only one I know that's heard it. The cars are so rare over here that I've never seen another one on the road. We're talking about just under 13,000 total during a 4 year production run for the Chevy SS.
vf gts would cost 85k in usa
@@ralfie8801 hang on to it

Don’t worry! It’s not going anywhere. We’ve had a bit over 3 years now, it’s got a bit over 16K on the clock.
After being screwed by GMH in Australia nice to see Aussie Muscle Engineering at its best.
Smiles for miles lol. I'll have to get you to drop over to Oz once I've upgraded my HSV VF R8 Clubsport with the W547kw Walkinshaw pack. Its a manual too ha
One of the best sounding v8s I've heard
Back in 2010, when these things roamed the lands of Australia, you could never trust the weather man because the noise of these monsters made you think there was a constant thunderstorm everywhere you went
I bought my first V8 police pursuit car at an auction in Western Australia when I was 18yo. I updated at auction every 2 years until the WA police stopped using V8s because they were too dangerous. I never got a bad one. Super fast, super fun, super reliable and super cheap.
Thank you GM for killing an Australian Icon.
Jealous Americans that's what. Couldn't make a better car so killed it instead
Well, it was the GFC.... So fk you US Banksters.
Trade unions killed the Aussie car industry. Kept making ridiculous wage and conditions claims until the the manufacturers said f**k this and moved to Asia. But it’s never their fault.
The Australians knew how to put together an affordable, fun and practical machine.
Maybe not affordable 😂😂
@@Luke_chux compared to what this car could be compared to, it was definitely the affordable option
Great reaction and an awesome ride. Try the VF VXR8 next.
Sad you made no mention of the fantastic 6 pot, British made AP Racing brakes!
Sorry...my bad :-(
Oh don't mention them many VXR8 owners caused a great fuss about them mainly the colour yellow. Some think they should be Silver..
Or spend 5.5k on a wiseco kit and cams for your 900 Honda and turn it into a 985 and destroy RK gold chains and rear sprockets in 1200km
On set of light's in a C63 and on my right i had one of these monster's.
Very close but the noise out of these cars are overwhelming!!
It sure is 👏
Would you believe me if i told you that I'm an Aussie that has never driven a Holden!!??
I love the look and i love the power but for some reason i trust no car doing over 100km if it's not a European car.
My loss!!
Depends on the size of the drivers balls lol
You should try the W557 then smile with fear at the end lol but enjoyable
Loved it. But yea 600HP isnt enough. About to add the Walkinshaw kit to my VF HSV R8 Clubsport which will take her to 733HP. Kickass.
Fantastic vid, mine puts a smile on my face every day
I can imagine it does :-)
Yep so does mine. love it. :)
Let us know where you live, it’s been years since I’ve seen a commodore/v8
you must be really proud of that beast and i mean BEAST wow wow wow.
great shopping car used by many house wives in Australia , if you want the man version come over here and drive the tekno performance car with 1100 hp and still has aircon and all the luxury option
Yeah, but how much does it cost?
Holden Australia - RIP
I am Australian and it is the best thing ever
Cheers :-)
In Australia we affectionately call them "Clubby's" and they get attention on the road now more than ever since Holden's closure. In fact I drive the VF version and have to say even though I never did see a lot of them on the road in the 5 years I've owned mine I see a lot less around now. I suspect many of them have been garaged as investments.
Best thing since Hills hoists,Vegemite & goon bags..
Vauxhall? IT'S A BLOODY HOLDEN!!!
I worked as a maintenance fitter on the V8 production line at Fishermans bend in the early 80's. Not the assembly line, the machining line, was a bloody good job.
What a Awsome Vid .Great 2 Drive .Im in Uk Ive got a Monaro VXR. Will get a VXR 8 next/ Thanks U Guys

Petrol Ped its forsale
These holden muscle rigs are going to be so highly prized
Beautiful car. I personally owned a 6L HSV and it cost me a fortune in petrol. You should check out how much the ute versions of these are going for now.
Never gets old
Wicked, Aussie mechanic here, thrashed heaps of ss and hsv, wild fun
