Fun note on the food imagery: Yumeko's rather strange family name, Jabami, literally means "devouring snake" and it fits her perfectly on so many levels.
And yumeko means golden child

Isn't it cool that the president and Yumeko are designed in antithesis, but are very similar?
I mean, Yumeko has long, black hair that she keeps untied. Her color is red, as that is most often seen in her eyes and background when she gets riled up. Her eyes are copper and her lips are pink.
Kirari, on the other hand keeps her hair tightly kept in braids, while her color is blue. As her eyes and lips are almost identical shades of blue.
Despite this, they are the most similar characters in the whole Manga. They both enjoy the risks, and the fun and the people who they play against. Sure, Kirari just seems to be eager for amusement rather than risks: but they have the same drive and determination

I love how they describe each of the gamblers with just a single scene.
Once you see how the character is like you immediately understand their description in the op.
7:16 - "Limes"
The color has been altered with the playing cards for aesthetic, or throughout the video in fact, but I think you'll find by their shape that those are lemons, limes are more evenly spherical. In fact I think lemons are the most frequently shown fruit in the video while I'm not sure if I saw any limes. This is actually an important distinction given the iconography of lemons in gambling; you've probably seen them depicted on slot machines and other games of chance at some point right?
Well it goes back to the 1900s when in America gambling was prohibited as part of the massing political strength of the Puritan Movement. But as anyone familiar with the American Prohibition knows, making things illegal didn't make them go away. Enter gum slots, or more commonly fruit machines.
Slot machines proper had existed before this point, so these machines were just a way to engage the consumer in the way slot machines do, while still being technically legal as it was classified as a 'gum dispensing machine' with an element of chance and nothing more (just a step or two away from gum pachinko actually). And it was about what it sounds like. You'd put in some coin, spin the wheels, and get a chance to win some gums if the fruits matched up; lining up cherries got you cherry gum, watermelons got you watermelon gum, etc, etc. Sounds pretty cool right? Well they were pretty popular and appeared in many stores of grocery and convenience during the era.
Exit Prohibition, and yet the association of matching up colorful fruit to win stuck, becoming a staple of slot machines and other games of chance commonly found in casinos the world over, earning fruit, especially lemons and a few others, a certain association with gambling itself.
So, to go further, while the fruit depicted does do well to make an homage to the character's perspective of the school being a personal Garden of Eden (which lends itself to the seduction of the garden, the draw of gambling, the loss of innocence, the lewdity of the story), it also carries a strong association with gambling within the context of gambling. Especially with the grapes, cherries, lemons, peaches, strawberries, plums, apples, oranges and melons; and just about all of these fruits find their way into the intro (not sure if I spotted melons). While I suppose it hasn't not been done, limes aren't nearly as common or iconic as lemons; they're a less American fruit I guess because of reasons which is probably why.
Interestingly, are you familiar with the use of the word lemon to refer to an anime/manga related sexual fiction? Or more commonly, to refer to something, or someone, as defective or useless? Even something that might seem promising but doesn't work out?
One last thing, they don't show fish when there's only a guy on screen, they show loads of fish when ladies are. There's a certain association with fish and certain regions of a woman. Very lewd.

You elaborated on two interesting aspects (the former only indirectly affecting the opening with some interesting trivia, and the latter [two] directly adding probably relevant context that explains some more symbolism of the opening).
Geoff (Mother's Basement) already did an response video to this, so I doubt he'll look into this comment section again, but imho this would deserve to get pinned.

Too many people compare this show to Kaiji, but I think that is not a fair comparison... this show is over the top, surreal in it`s setting, with detestable characters (really bad and crazy people overall), while Kaiji is a lot more grounded in reality and has a relatable main character that makes us want to root for him.
This two shows are very different (kind of opposites really), so you can`t really compare them fairly... maybe a comparison with Akagi (another work of Kaiji`s mangaka) would be better... but i don`t really know.

@Imaru Lewis they are all objectively awful in their own special way. that's why it's such a good show. You get to watch absolutely horrible people destroy each other. this is like the first show where I'm completely okay with the main character losing cause honestly she's Cuckoo for cocoa puffs when it comes to gambling. She's just as equally fucked up as the main villian. It's like Batman vs the Joker but instead of Batman their is two Jokers and ones slightly nicer than the other.
What draws me back is wondering what trick she's going to pull out of her ass this time

Something you didn't mention: The food and gambling relationship is also expressed in the series with the same japanese expression used in both situations: Itadakimasu. It's what you say before meals but in a gambling context it can mean "please give me the prize". You can hear Yumeko use it several times throughout the show.
YES! YES YES YES YES YES! The opening song to Kakegarui is sexual and that's the point. Jabami takes an almost sexual pleasure from gambling, and Gambling itself leads in that dirrection as far as the school goes. Domination, submission, the highs of victory and the agony of defeat, all primal, and rough emotions, just like to what you would "feel" I suppose in a sexual encounter.

Tbh gambling in Kakegurui is waaay better than in NGNL. In Kakegurui you don't really know who will win at the end, but in NGNL you can easily predict the outcome

YourWaifuIsShit To reply to your comment. No game no life theme alway revolve around the sibling winning. It been hinted through many scene in the anime that they will alway win. We are just there to witness how they do it. Comparing kakegurui to NgNl is a bit wrong because one is the joy of winnning and risk while other is the joy of seeing the process.

On that note you left at the end, Kakegurui, despite it's name, I don't think it's that much interested on gaming strategies nor on making them exciting. Those are only a means to an end. That end being to showcase the characters' madness. And I think it's working pretty damn well. Think about it like this, Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde but instead of a strange potion it's gambling what triggers the transformation.
Not part of the OP but has anyone else realized that the while Yumeko’s color is red and the Prez’s is Blue Runa’s eye color is purple (red and blue combined) which symbolizes her neutrality in their big finale with the tarot card game?

Holy shit, I never noticed the arches thing. Did you notice too that the types of fish floating by change for most of the characters' individual scenes? (One of Sumeragi's looks to be an Angelfish and Midari's a Pirahna, etc) Do you think there's any significance in that?
Idk why but I really love this anime. It might not be a ‘risky’ sort of gambling anime but it has a certain charm to it. Like this opening.
A pretty great video for one of my current binge-reads/watches, and probably now a gateway to other Gambling/Game styled Non-battle Battle anime.
I certainly missed a lot of the less obvious symbolism in the OP, but glad I seemingly caught the most obvious bits.
Also, Yumeko is pretty much best girl, but every lady is great.

Wtf... NGNL isnt even all that good... I mean its fun but there arnt any stakes at all and the anime ends at a purposefully annoying spot. The two mains are ALWAYS in control ALWAYS have a plan and ALWAYS reveal the plan at the end in some BS way. By contrast kakegurui is about exposing how each player is cheating and building this sort of cycle of self destruction that is going to end badly for everyone.

And to hear that the two of them are twins blew me away; would never have saw that coming, since I have not read the manga but am watching the anime. that makes no sense and I know all the manga spoilers about the beast titan and his identity and none of that makes sense with all the animals and dinosaurs charging with the beast titan decimating the souls of humanity. Because the beast titan is not the pinnicle of evolution or some elemental force of nature.

Yep, Kaiji was way better... This is just over the top crazy. Still, I find it interesting trying to figure out how they cheat.
As much as I like the anime, it doesn't leave you room to discover the cheats:
-In RPS none of the hints Yumeko said was shown to us, neither the eyes of bystanders nor a hint that the guy was exatly behind her.
-In the Memory card game, the card backs all have the same pattern, and if you track the cards after they admitted the cheat, they don't even match up to the same cards.
-In the Sword Roullete, the hands of the dealer and the girl at the entrance was straigh-out of camera, you couldn't see it prior to when Yumeko talked about.
-In the Indian Poker meeting, we have no hints AT ALL about how they cheat, as the anime hasn't shown yet, I won't say it here as it will be spoilers.
The only one you could tell how Yumeko Won before she said how, was the Tower of Doors one, which I could call how the tower worked by thinking about what was shown alone.
Murilo E dos Reis that's my problem as well. It's supposed to be psychological but we the audience are in nobody's head and just watch when they reveal how they found out the other was cheating. Also I hate that beta male.
Murilo E dos Reis That's my biggest gripe with the show. You can't figure out anything yourself except by sheer guessing and you basically have to wait for the show to tell you. It's the most garbage way of making the MC seem smart.

Speaking mostly for myself here, but I would love a video on what makes a good gambling series. Kaiji is a phenomenal example and it'd be cool to see your thoughts on how it manages to move so slow sometimes yet still be constantly exciting.

I would 100% participate in the contest if not for 1) I'm collecting the manga in physical form on my shelf, so it'd be a waste of money to get them via book walker and 2) As much as I would love to display either of those two prizes, the amount of questions it would raise from guests would make me have to hide it somewhere, unfortunately (doesn't help that while people around me irl know I'm an otaku, they generally have 0 understanding of anime/think it's either just kid shows or hentai)
