Here's what happens a lot of the time: in order for the state to provide you an attorney for free, you need to be deemed indigent by the court system, which means you'll surely spend a night in jail while you wait for a court appearance, and then the officers will still want to talk to you, and THEN you might have bail set. But if can afford an attorney, you have to contact one, pay for it, wait for the attorney to arrive, and whatever else. If you've obviously guilty, you save a ton of time just doing things without the lawyer and seeing a judge as soon as possible to address your actual case. For these guys, arguing usually does nothing for them since the evidence is damning. Getting a lawyer helps more when the prosecution has a flimsy case. Of course, NOT getting a lawyer and still arguing is insanely stupid.

mam362 Stupidity and or the inability to remain silent. Thinking they'll bail faster if not waiting for an attorney.
Here's what happens a lot of the time: in order for the state to provide you an attorney for free, you need to be deemed indigent by the court system, which means you'll surely spend a night in jail while you wait for a court appearance, and then the officers will still want to talk to you, and THEN you might have bail set. But if can afford an attorney, you have to contact one, pay for it, wait for the attorney to arrive, and whatever else. If you've obviously guilty, you save a ton of time just doing things without the lawyer and seeing a judge as soon as possible to address your actual case. For these guys, arguing usually does nothing for them since the evidence is damning. Getting a lawyer helps more when the prosecution has a flimsy case. Of course, NOT getting a lawyer and still arguing is insanely stupid.

Watching countless TCaP shows and clips, you notice that so many times, the predators speak like the decoy is real when Chris grills them. They'll say "I came here to see (decoy)," that kind of statement. Chris adds to that belief when he says things like "You came here to have sex with a 13-year old" and "What would have happened here if I wasn't here?" Many think Chris is law enforcement, the girl's father at first, etc. To a predator, it can easily look like the cops or Chris "found out" about the chats and phone calls somehow, and set up the sting, in tandem with the underage girl. I wonder at what point later on they realize or discover that there never was a real girl to begin with.
