    Great. I look forward to next weeks video. Since I was very young, I have loved old cars and trucks. After my grandma's 2nd husband died, a few months later she introduced us to the man that she would eventually marry. This man, Russell Ashlee, soon became a force for good in my life. He was into old cars and owned a 1954 Mercury and a 1959 Ford Galaxy Fairlane that he would eventually give to me on my 16th birthday. I loved that 59 Ford and I loved him for everything he became to me. He didn't act as a grandfather, he treated me as a son. Thanks for sturring up great and precious memories of him. I miss him dearly as he was the one person that got me thru some truly terrible and difficult years. God Bless you folks and Happy Trails!!

      Nice comments about your grandfather, that was so awesome he was also a father. On October 4th 2020 we will have a video featuring the National Truck & Auto Museum that is directly behind the Auburn Auto Museum! Hope you like that one as well.

    Thanks for your videos of the auto museums. You pointed out the little handle on the windshield wiper motor at 16:31. My dad had an old Chevrolet truck that had wiper motors that were operated from the engine vacuum system. It worked fine when travelling on level ground or going down hill, but if you were going up a hill the vacuum from the engine would decrease to the point that the windshield wipers would stop working. Then we had to use the little handle. You were blessed to have the whole museum to yourselves. We enjoyed this video and the truck museum.

    • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We would have been too nervous because of Covid if it was too well attended. We had called before hand, and they said to come during the week. I too used the windshield wiper handle on some older trucks we had at the gas station for plowing. "Those were the days,....."

    Ah Mark I could tell you were in engineering heaven, what an impressive display from yesteryear. I will check it out when we go to Newmar facility down the road. Now I recall where the term "trunk" came from and I had always thought suicide doors were named in the event the car rolled down an incline and the door knocked you under the wheel. Shout out to Sue for being such a good sport to accompany you, her excitement at discovering there was a 2nd and 3rd floor was subdued LOL.

    Years ago, when I was married, my husband at the time collected & restored antique and classic cars. We had Duesenbergs, many of which were SSJ’s (super charged), one Auburn and one Cord. He also had some V16 Cadillacs, Rolls Royces, Packards, etc. The Dueseys were always my favorite. The restoration could take 2 to 2 & 1/2 years and that was 8 hours a day. They were ground up restorations and the end result was exquisite. All Dueseys came with straight 8 engines in Duesenberg green. You would buy the rolling chassis and then take it to the body builder of your choice.

      Actually as far back as the early 1900's various companies experimented. It was interesting to see that vehicle/pedestrian vehicle crash safety standards is what ended the flip up headlight design craze! That area now has to be smooth to prevent "extra injury" during a crashes.

    @Our Journey In Myles. Mark your assumption about why Suicide doors are refered to as such is completely wrong. The reason they are called suicide doors is because when the car is traveling at speed if the doors are not closed good the wind can catch them throwing them open and throwing the passenger or driver out of the car. You can infact still buy a brand new car with suicide doors. For example the new 2021 Roles Royce Ghost has suicide rear doors on it.
