Architecture that forms to and compliments the landscape instead of flattening or destroying it has always fascinated me. Although the quarry was man made to begin with, this is a great use of the area which would have otherwise been a scar on the landscape.
THIS is exactly why I love Architecture and Engineering. The creativity it takes to see a space and imagine an amazing place is just astounding. The ingenuity and teamwork it takes as well, to create projects as big as this one, is amazing

I was fascinated about Chinese modern mega construction. They used every sqaue inch wisely. In Shanghai, close the modern musuem....huge park in top ,huge shopping mall below it.
Looks like a great design. I like the water fall. I assume there is a big fan somewhere to push the sailboat around in the drawing. Not going to get a good breeze in a hole.
A Malaysian businessman bought an abandon quarry too near Kuala lumpur 40 years ago, only much greater scale compare to this. It is 88 acre and about 150 feet at the deepest point below ground level. Now it have a water thyme park, a megamall, apartments, a zoo, a university and a 6 stars hotel. It is remarkable how a once unused land turn into a goldmine. Sunway lagoon is a must visit place when you visit Kuala Lumpur.
Truly incredible, isn't China? Meanwhile, India can't even build decent toilets and provide monthly wages to teachers...who go on strike twice or thrice a year demanding salaries.
I am so happy to see folks in other parts of the world leading in terms of low-impact construction. I work in a LEED Platinum building that makes for a number of interesting solutions. The roof was the largest photovoltaic array West of the Mississippi when it was put up in 2013. Oddly, it was significantly smaller than originally planned.
Those patents for pumping concrete will become very valuable when earthscrapers become a reality, what was the company again, might want to buy shares....

If it's built right probably pretty close, as it's going to move right along with the ground, almost like being in a cave. But with Chinese construction who knows...
