In Killer Angels Shaara's opinion was that General Meade's had no impact on the Federal victory. Recent historians doing deeper research have proven his opinion wrong. Besides that I always thought the structure of the novel was uneven; with the Confederate perspective being from the top command, and the Union focus being on a cavalry patrol and a particular regiment.
