Yeah, the characters that give you different dialogue with Jr. are mostly on Durandal like the police and the 100 series observational units. The characters on the Foundation are hit and miss. A lot of them at this point of the game are coded for a particular story event which keeps their dialogue static. Also, the characters related to the inn and in shops are generally hard coded for one set of dialogue as they are intended to sell you stuff so are not going to offer you any extra flavour text. Episode II expands on it a lot more as almost all NPCs have at least three separate sets of dialogue depending on who your onscreen character is. Some side quests in Episode II can only be initiated if you talk to a random NPC with a specific onscreen character whereas in Episode I you really just fumble around with different on screen characters and see how / if the dialogue changes. It’s not worth it unless you have time to kill and want to get some extra world building stuff. A character I know for a fact gives a separate string of dialogue for Jr is the card counting 100 series observational unit Realian in the casino but there are many more onboard the Durandal and on the Foundation. More often than not if they mention Jr in their standard dialogue (i.e., when Jr is not the onscreen character) so changing him to the onscreen character is kind of choreographed whereas there are many other instances where there is no clue and it’s just playing around with him on screen and seeing how things change. One of my favourite things to do in an RPG is to run around towns and talk to people (a holdover from the Lunar games which awarded you for talking to everyone and even going back to previously visited towns after major story events for new dialogue and the chance to get items that only are available if you revisit certain areas and talk to people again). All that is to say it is mostly a ‘me’ thing and me telling you about it was more of an FYI than anything. I do appreciate you trying it out, it just sucks the building you went into didn’t pan out, lol. I think Episode I is more spotty with it than the other two episodes.
Actually Trevor, Helmer sounds like Jet from Cowboy Bebop because Helmer IS Jet from Cowboy Bebop. Both are played by Beau Billingslea. Though Beau Billingslea only voices Helmer in Episode I.
Dia does not lie. The KOS MOS encephalon is hype. Sucks to wait an entire week but it will be worth it to see Trevor’s reaction to the bat shit crazy anime ass shit as Dia so correctly calls it.
To get Decoder 1 in the Park on the Durandal you first would have had to talk to the Pink Bug in King’s Warehouse on the Foundation. You’d need to destroy the metal crates in the back of the warehouse but NOT destroy the Pink Bug (i.e., the Dock Colony’s ‘Talk to Me’ shop mascot). To do this you need to destroy each crate individually (i.e., make sure not to be too trigger happy) and he ends up being in one of the crates (I believe in the upper right). Talk to him and he will thank you by giving you various hints one of which is the location of Decoder 1 in the Park on the Durandal. It will then appear as a sparkly point you can interact with in the right side of the Park. I do not think it is able to be found unless you first do this sequence of events.
FYI, for the most part nothing in this game is permanently missable so you can go back and get Decoder 1 at any point. The only things that are permanently missable are emails and the special items you can get from them and certain items in shops (as shops will stop carrying certain items / equipment after you reach certain parts of the story).
It’s weird I went to part 14 to comment that comments section was not available and came back and it was literally available as soon as I was back. You either are extremely quick or I just needed to wait a few more seconds for you to realize, lol.
Got to love Trevor quoting from Magic Dance from Labyrinth two videos in a row now. You know you’ve found a quality LP when the LP makes reference to top quality 80’s movies. Also, there is a NPC in the casino during this part of the game and a little thereafter who mentions that he thinks Jr has the hots for him but that he (the NPC in the casino) is not into Jr ‘that way’. However when you speak to him later with Jr selected as the onscreen character the man starts to stammer and act all weird ,implying that he might be projecting a little and in fact he might be the one who has the hots for Jr. It’s a bit weird until you remember that Jr is technically older than Gaignun but then that makes everything with Jr and MOMO weird, but MOMO is also older than she appears too. In other words JRPGs doing what they do best, making their players feel extremely uncomfortable no matter what excuses the writers try to make, lol. All that is to say you guys picking up that Jr might be a bit bi-coded is not that far off the mark.
Also the robot Trevor for whatever reason doesn’t like apparently hates Jr for equally no reason. He will insult Jr if Jr is the onscreen party member but eventually warms up to Jr by the end of the game.
*gasp* Trev from The Dirty Inning playing (along) with one of my favorite games of all time?! Time to watch this playlist nonstop.

It’s bizarre. Next time I’ll just be patient and reload a few times and hope it resolves itself.

If I recall correctly it is specifically the NPC in the orange mechanic / engineer uniform that is ‘bi for’ Little Master.

Commander's Crest is super useful because every other turn you will get 6 AP since unused AP carry over to the next turn.
