Love the reaction of the driver just acts as though this sort of thing was an everyday occurance.
I'm fairly sure he's not the driver.
The driver wasn't interviewed....
They've been providing stirling service in Merseyside for the last 40 years. Still going strong and only just about to be replaced this year.
annnnd still not fully replaced, another 3 years later-
I get the impression that the Class 508's were not really well received on the Southern region
The class 508s would be replaced by class 455s in that same year the last 508s ran on the Southern region in 1985
MrGriser 508s ran on southeastern then it is now on merseyrail
Yes between 1998 and 2008.
Love how only the footpath was closed causing minimal inconvenience haha. Today the whole road would be closed for around a mile each direction.
That's so true
The train was part of BREL 1972 'PEP' design
I think 15 mph I suppose
I couldn't go to school that day :-) No trains to Kingston
Thomas was reprimanded and told he was a bad train and forbidden from drinking ever again... The end!
:D
I only heard about it after i got to school, it was agony having to wait till going home time before we could walk up and have an oogle, the most exciting thing to happen in Shepperton in centuries.
I remember this, I was only 12 at the time.
The bloke in the sunglasses seems like an actor from The Day Today😁😁
"In 1980, no trains crashed. In 1981, no trains crashed. In 1982, one train crashed."
IS THAT LORD LUCAN
fast forward to today and this train is still in service :P
Err... whoops. Also the 'crossing not in use' sign made me chuckle for some reason.
Same here.
Well at least the train didn't carry on into the high street or there would be death
Did they ever find out the cause of the crash
Trains breaks were faulty according to google
15 mph?! More like 50!
still going strong as 508131 on Merseyrail as of late 2022
I remember this as a boy
Arriva kinda looks like
These trains have been in service for donkeys years
Looks like a 313
Classes 313, 314, 315, 507 & 508 EMS's are all in the same family and all look alike.
They are called PEPS, like you got Networkers, Electrostars, desiros, these are peps
15mph? 😂
I guess the actual impact speed would have been at / below -12mph..Dynamic braking is in operation untill the speed drops to 12mph then air braking is automatically used to bring to a full stop. Which appears to have failed to happen?
There could have been also wheel slip under dynamic braking which would cause dynamic braking to stop on the affected axels and for air brakes to apply.🤔 The effect is like using a car fitted with abs when emergency braking is applied. The train driver might as well just been a passenger once this happens as theres no more they can do to stop quicker.
I like class 377 and class 387 more
455 is better
the best 🥰
