    Laughed heartedly at the middle section here! Great editing as always. Love the ribbing at your own unique capabilities!
    What makes this video exciting is that these all have STORIES that you’ve made at the table. So even if the game isn’t made for your gamer heart, they make for great discussion

      You are so kind … If I had to do it again I would have replace that game with Tummple which I pulled out but forgot about. Now at the same timeI say that I have an internal sigh with someone says, “let’s play Cockroach Poker!!!, Yeahhhhh!!”

    Great video idea, absolutely perfect analogy about digging for the 1 star review to get some real info about the item. Personally I'm now intrigued by Calico and Quirky Circuits.

    I'm a bit surprised that there are so many games that you guys haven't played together. Your collection must be larger than I thought.
    I have Unbroken and Burgle Brothers 2 and honestly neither have been given a second play...yet.
    You see I recently finished painting the Burgle Bros. miniatures so it now must hit the table at least once more. And I don't know if you are aware of the backstory of Unbroken. Golden Bell is a shady company and screwed a lot of people including the designer of the game. Interesting posts on BGG that tell the story.

    • @The-Game-Garage
      @The-Game-Garage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We both play quite a bit with other friends. We do have a couple friends that have some pretty massive collections. In the future we would like to do a series of “Games we should buy” from some of these guys that have many more shelves than we have. We know nothing of the backstory of Unbroken. I can imagine that the “business” of game production and ownership is an interesting one.

    This was a fun idea for a video. I really got me thinking about what games do I own, don't really care to play ...at least not very often, but refuse to part with... yet? For me, maybe Caylus, because it is a difficult one to get people to play, even I have to be in the right mood for, but it ain't leaving.

    Eager to see a playthrough of Lifeboat. You guys really hyped it up. It looks like Jeff from Gorilla Games just isn't doing any more prints of it and is focused on selling a sequel to it. Sad, if its really that good.

    • @The-Game-Garage
      @The-Game-Garage  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is one of the weird things about games. We really like it but I am not sure it is so amazing that everyone will like it. At the same time sometimes those games that are simple enough to get out of the way and let people play are really fun. We have also been asked to share our props that go with it which in my mind is part of what makes it fun. We will see what we can do to get that game in front of the camera.
      Also, with so many games out there, it is bound to happen when a gem of a game will not be viable to produce on a regular basis. I agree … it makes me sad and sometimes makes me want to buy a game when I believe its window of availability might be short.

    The best Coop deck building game i have played is hands down, Aeon's End. It has depth, controlled luck, and a lot of content (especially with the expansions). The game i don't like but won't get rid of is probably Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu. It's a good game, but me and my buddy always end up QBing the group so we win and it sucks all of the cooperation out of the game haha.

    • @The-Game-Garage
      @The-Game-Garage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ooooo … yuck! Coop’s where the QB plays all 11 positions … I agree … no fun!

    Never count in your head with The Mind. It’s supposed to tap into your sense of “has this been long enough?”, which counting is too easy a workaround. We allow a degree of body language, but honestly, you can set a line in the sand based on what makes the game challenging.
    As for the idea of not getting rid of games I don’t like, we’ll, I get rid of games I consider to be very good, so that’s not it. Now, there are classic games in this house that I don’t play much at all. But they serve a similar role in this house that I think they would in a house that doesn’t have a die hard board gamer in them-they exist so that they can be pulled out with children. And if we have kids one day (hopefully) I don’t want them to not be familiar with Monopoly, Clue, Sorry, Guess Who and Pictionary just because I think there are objectively better games. So yes, there are games I consider bad in this house that I am not getting rid of, but all of them are classics, and I am keeping them because I want those cultural touch stones in this house. I don’t have them as a part of my game collection on BGG, for instance, so I often forget that we have them at all.

    • @The-Game-Garage
      @The-Game-Garage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point … The classic game or first of its kind or good for the kids … you should have been at the taping of this video. I have a Acquire and Stratego but have not played in forever.

    This video reminds me I need to get a sticker from you guys at Tabletopia. Also, dragon’s tomb has the best “review” of letter jam I’ve ever seen. And I also have only had good experiences with cockroach poker but we’ve always played with people we know well.

    • @The-Game-Garage
      @The-Game-Garage  ปีที่แล้ว

      We will be there and will have stickers!! … I’ll have to look up the letter jam review … we did play it after the review and it took awhile for Bodie and Ember to get it but then we like it enough to put it on the “play this Christmas break” pile.

    Love the video, very creative list.
    My game would be Disney’s sidekicks (coincidentally also a co op).
    By all accounts a bad game both in mechanics and production. But I will not get rid of because 1) it is Disney and 2) I have yet to beat it, and am convinced I will someday.

    • @The-Game-Garage
      @The-Game-Garage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Love to hear of another game on your list. A co-op that is hard is always a challenge that you love to hate and then combined with the hope of future success … another classic reason to keep a game you don’t like. Great comment!!

    • @timwaycaster7538
      @timwaycaster7538 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also have a category of games in my mind that’s games where I have an emotional attachment (like a fond memories of playing it with friends that aren’t around anymore) but are really not good games or even broken games. I hang onto them just for memories- ex. War! Age of Imperialism and WOTC Star Wars Miniatures game.

    I like Burgle Bros enough that I bought acrylic sheets and made wooden posts that hold them up so I can stack the floors. 🤩 I also think I wouldn’t like it as much all one level on the table. (Bb Vegas has floors… but I still like that first one best)

    • @The-Game-Garage
      @The-Game-Garage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wonder if sometimes the modifications that we add to the game or we like to call it the “Deluxification” makes the game experience totally different. I can imagine that I would really enjoy a concrete illustration of the multiple floors instead of the flat version. I have to agree with you that I would enjoy that a whole bunch more!!

    • @naomiooooo
      @naomiooooo ปีที่แล้ว

      @@The-Game-Garage good point… I didn’t add my deluxification until I had played the game a few times and loved it. I think some of my KS deluxe things make me hold on to so so games a bit longer. Wishing doesn’t always make a game great.

    Concept is one of my groups core games, literally everyone I have introduced it to has gone out and bought it. However, I do some home brews to make it more enjoyable.

    • @The-Game-Garage
      @The-Game-Garage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ohhhhh I am so glad to hear from you … willing to share any of your best “home brews”. I’ve always thought this game has so much potential and it’s discussions are so much better than codenames, Dixit and other games like that. Upon further discussion I realized I played that game mostly with teens and not with adults which may have skewed by experience. I need to pull that out with a group of quick thinking adults (I might not qualify :))

    • @binnieb173
      @binnieb173 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@The-Game-Garage You can't play this game with teens very well, if you aren't a team.
      So we use a D10 to pick your category. This can give some people some very hard forced options which forces a lot of creativity.
      No teams or anything, its free play for guessing.
      If you have anyone that just shouts constant guesses I impose a 1 guess at a time rule where you can only give your guess and have to wait for someone else to guess before you can guess again.
      Every time I have played this we just go until we run out of points. Most points wins.
      I have also used this as one of the stages of 'the fish bowl' or 'the salad bowl' game. usually instead of charades, which can be quite fun, though you need more time to get through it.

    • @The-Game-Garage
      @The-Game-Garage  ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video!
    Here are my 5 games in no particular order:
    Onitama… I don’t like chess, it felt samey, like as long as I don’t mess up and my opponent doesn’t mess up we will run a loop forever. Keeping because if I ever have a friend who loves chess, it will be the gateway to board games 👍🏼
    Fog of Love. I don’t care to role play. My wife and I tried it and it didn’t work. We didn’t have a good time playing and it felt like work…… but everyone loves it. We played it straight though, it was just too predictable. I was a guy, she was a girl, so we knew what the other person would choose. We didn’t use any imagination…
    I think that if we had played more creatively and less grounded, it could work. But it’s such a time commitment and there are countless other 2 players that are better… but I could see us trying again in the next 30 years.
    Canvas. I backed it on kickstarter. Paid too much for it. The idea and concept are soooo cool. The play fell flat. I’ve only played once. I want to play again, but I never reach for it. But to sell it is to admit defeat. I will play it in the future. I will like it. 🤞
    Horrified. It was a gift. I love the theme! I love the idea! And I asked for it for Christmas… I did my research… I always do, and 98% of the time I’m spot on. I did not enjoy playing. It was so simple. The whole time I was alpha gaming in my mind and suppressing my feelings. The right moves were so obvious. I DO want to play it again, with actual gamers, on the hardest difficulty. But again, if I’m going to, why not play an actual heavy game?…
    Gugong. I’ll put this here because I enjoyed it. It was fine, ok, average… but everyone else loved it… why? I literally don’t know. I thought they were going to rip me apart afterwards for even having us play it. It has some cool mechanics, but not a great game. And for what it did, I’d rather play every other heavy game. But they loved it. So I can’t even bring it to our game nights unless I absolutely want to play it, which I don’t. But they will request it, and so I’ll keep it for when they do. It’s nice to have things people like 😂
    Honorable mentions:
    Any game that I got for a steal… if I paid less than 25% of MSRP, how could I get rid of it? It’s a trophy. I’m a gentleman and a scholar for getting such a deal. As long as the game is ok, I’m keeping it.
    Btw, side note, I played Regicide this weekend for the first time. Really awesome! Glad to have another game I can play with a regular deck of cards! I own way too many Theory 11 decks 😂

    • @The-Game-Garage
      @The-Game-Garage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eric! Great to hear from you! You bring up some really good points. The two that resonate with me are “the trophy deal that I want to display” and “How could I be wrong about a game I researched so much”. Those reasons definitely fit into the psych of keeping the game. There have been a few kickstarters that come so late that when I finally play it I can’t remember why I bought it but it is a game that few others have so it fits in that trophy category … this was an excellent post!!
