I'm happy with Nacelle's new _Star Trek_ line being based soley on what I call the pre-"Bad Hideout" era--from the original series to _Enterprise._ Thank you for sharing! If you're like me, enjoy the fifth and final season of _Lower Decks_ and may you and yours live long and prosper.🖖

I definitely lean more toward the same category as you: Raised on Star Trek (watched TNG/DS9/VOY live as they aired).
I’m in the camp who recognized every figure. But I agree that Scotty’s Nephew and Valkris are destined to shelf warm.
I love that Jellico, Garrett, Capt. Sulu and Tuvix are getting figures.
I watched the panel from NYCC, Brian actually said he wanted to do Lower Decks figures and was disappointed when he found out he couldn’t. He also seemed to show interest in doing Picard season 3 figures but acknowledged he couldn’t. (Sadly he had never watched Prodigy and was completely surprised to hear Jellico appeared on the show.)
I really like what this line is trying to accomplish. I happen to have quite few Art Asylum/Diamond Select Trek figures so if the Nacelle toys fit that scale, that would be really cool. But I also agree those older figures really need more articulation.
Brian said he’s definitely focusing on cool accessories. He also has a vehicle planned but he’s still working out details with Paramount.
Overall the line is exciting. I hope it finds it’s audience! But 3-4 core cast with 3-4 guest cast probably would have been a safer wave 1 assortment.
Oh. And I know you know this, but Archer and Janeway both got Minimates figures too. 🖖🤓

Side Note: It’s interesting that Pre-2009 Trek and Secret Hideout/Bad Robot Trek appear to be separate licenses from each other. At least that’s was Brian heavily implied.
It does seem to lend credence to the notion that C-3PO with a red arm, or the Falcon with a square radar dish were done more for licensing/merchandising reasons rather than creative necessity. (I know those are Star Wars examples, but the same idea is at play. Perhaps that’s why we have SO MANY uniform derivations on modern Star Trek.)
It’s almost like that Abrams Produced “25% different” rumor is true to some extent for proprietary/residual reasons. Though admittedly, some online dirt sheets did overblow the whole situation.

I’m a die hard Trek fan who has been desperate for a modern Trek figure line that will go the distance. I knew all these characters off the bat, and will get them all - but I really would like to know that some of the classic characters and full crews are coming as well. As you have said these don’t mix with any other Trek figures to date.

Some random thoughts: I'm a casual Trek fan who loves and has seen the entirety of TNG, the Kelvin timeline films and Prodigy. Where I live, the Playmates figures aren't that easy to get, so news of a new line of figures always piques my interest. From a fan stand point, I'll always be all-in on any TNG figure, which is why I was bummed that the new playmates Trek line was discontinued.
I understand that older fans want to see some variety, but from a business stand point, the only way i see companies making money on the IP is to sell waves with goal of being able to complete rosters from a single show first at an affordable price point. We don't have to have another TNG or TOS centric wave (that can come later). If you want to pull in new fans, you have to drum up interest in the properties which are currently airing: SNW, Prodigy, Lower Decks. When the company has built some goodwill, then they can focus on other characters.
If Nacelle can sell their figures at a price point somewhere in the middle of playmates and Super7, that would help them appeal to more people. As much of a fan I am of TNG, the prospect of spending 50 bucks on a Super7 figure with questionable quality control isn't really appealing. I just want a 1/12 line with decent articulation, a reasonable price, a smattering of accessories, and the ability to actually complete a shows main roster of characters.

It feels like this toy line is designed specifically for people like me. I've lived through half a dozen Star Trek toy lines which hit the main cast, but never expanded beyond that. Whenever a new line is announced and its just Kirk, Spock and McCoy again, I'm thinking "wake me when wave three hits." This line is starting with wave 3. Its starting with the characters I've wanted for 20-30 years. So I'm excited, and I can't wait to see where the line goes from here.

I consider myself pretty deep into Trek, but I don't collect anything from it. Some ship models have been tempting over the years, but never a priority for me. Figures have never once been interesting to me due to them being an odd scale or "vintage" style. If a company is going to make modern figures at a typical 6" scale, I'd be down for a few.

Out of all the figures, the one character that recognizes the most is Captain Sulu.

  • @tgif1345
    @tgif1345 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

The Nacelle line looks interesting for sure. I am a little concerned that the only heavy hitter in this first wave is Sulu, even if he is in his captain's uniform from Star Trek VI and the Voyager episode, "Flashback", because it IS the first wave and I believe that, just like a pilot episode of a TV series, or the first single off an album, the first wave of a toyline sets the stage for how well the toyline will sell. So to have only one heavy hitter in Nacelle's first wave is a bold move, but not necessarily detrimental to the line as a whole. Having said that though, I would actually like to see season 1 and season 2 TNG figures in the line at some point. Mainly because we haven't had beardless Riker since the original Galoob TNG line from 1988, but also because we haven't actually had screen accurate season 1 Worf since then either, since that season 1 Worf we got from Playmates back in 1993 was just the original 1992 figure with a golden sash and the uniform painted a different color, AND we've never had a season 2 version of Worf before. Actually, come to think of it we've never had most of the different hair styles that Worf had over the course of TNG either.

I have bought all of Super7’s Star Trek Ultimates and was really excited for those but having them in hand, the sculpts were nice but they didn’t have the same heft as the DST figures before them. They felt like just larger versions of the 2022 Playmates Star Trek line. $55 a piece was also a death sentence for the line. It was just ridiculously overpriced. I have both of Nacelle’s Sectaurs figures featured in this video and they are definitely well made hefty figures with nice tight ratcheting articulation. If this can be duplicated with “The Expanse” and “Star Trek” we are in for some excellent quality collectibles. They absolutely have to bring us all the heavy hitters in the looks that they are best known for. In a wave of ten, two of those spots could certainly give us a Kirk, Picard, Spock, Data, etc! I don’t want the line to ever give us every version of Kirk in one wave, but we have to have Kirk in all his TOS Gold Shirt glory!

I’m happy that Nacelle has picked up the Star Trek licence. I think they actually get it and care for the properties. Btw, you should definitely give The Expanse ago. It is a stellar show and while not the same vibe, subject or feeling as Star Trek, but is closer in feeling to DS9, which some amazing characters and a fantastic plot. You have to pay attention though, it doesn’t hold your hand when it comes to world building, and it’s a great premise. Also has a Trek connection, Naren Shankar was showrunner.

About the Peter figure… he was portrayed by Ike Eisenman, an actor that is VERY well known to baby boomer Trek fans. Nacelle may be figuring that into their logic in producing the figure.

I'm sadly not into getting any of this line it's interesting that not only are most of these are lesser known but most of them are basically just bodies that can be used again so hopefully they have the big hitters ready for wave 2 and aren't expecting this wave to sell too much.

Missed opportunity not being in 6” scale with other lines such Marvel Legends or Star Wars Black Series. A lot of collectors like to army build and would buy multiples, swapping heads to create a crew or away team. I could picture having a Ten Forward or Cantina diorama and mixing the lines together, but it doesn’t really work when they’re out of scale. I’m excited for the new figures and hope it succeeds, but some odd choices right out of the gate.

To use a old baseball phrase, Nacelle have not '' hit it out of the park '' with this first wave. Six out the eight first figures in their line are as obscure as you can get which I do believe will hinder sales making it less likely for future waves. Aside from Sulu & Archer I cannot see myself getting any of the other figures simply because none of the other figures are core to the movies or tv shows they appear in. I hope I'm wrong but I think with these picks Nacelle have killed their line before it even gets of the ground.

I will say this up front that I'm on the outside looking in on Star Trek, I've watched a lot of reviews but not much of the shows/movies itself. I feel like the big appeal to a Star Trek toyline is collecting the bridge crew. That is why this lineup confuse me since there isn't any of that to draw people in and maybe interest them in picking up other figures. Doing the deep cuts is great for the fans but a whole wave of that just feels wrong since I feel like you need a balance of well known and obscure especially if its in a scale/size/style that is new for the franchise. Maybe it will work out since as you said other lines that have had that balance or went all in on well known characters hasn't worked but I feel the odds are stacked high against them right now.
