i live in USA never saw the bookworm in person or ever working at ALTON TOWERS after watching this restoration project episode 1 and 2 the bookworm must of been something to see when it was in working order at the park! lots of dedication i see went into restoring the bookworm ! shawn and his dad did a phenominal job of making it look outstanding! once again shawn shows me why i keep saying THEME PARK WORLDWIDE is the best amusement park themepark etc type channel on youtube! i've come to expect nothing but the best from his channel and he always delivers!!!! 2 thumbs up!!! way up!!!!!
So much work has obviously gone into both restoring the worm, and also making the video for us all to enjoy, at a time when we are all missing Alton Towers. Thank you Shawn. The music is beautiful too.
Maybe, as a step towards a museum, you could create a touring exhibit that can be shown at events like enthusiast events, fairground model shows, steam rallies or things like that? You could likely sell merch at the same time. Depends how you want to prioritise your time, as it would take some work. There’s certainly an opportunity there, though.
This is fantastic - and it's great that you get to work on a project like this with your Dad (who seems like an equally lovely chap). A few years ago the Rattlesnake rollercoaster closed at Pleasurewood Hills in Lowestoft - it was always a childhood favourite of mine so I placed a hopeful bid on the ride's awesome large fibre-glass snake when the park auctioned it off for charity. Eventually it was won by an MOT garage for over £2500 - with all of the money going to a local children's charity. Even better is that they were going to display 'Sid the Snake' at their garage with the following sign: "come here, we can fix your rattle".
It's great to see skills being passed down and the book work is definitely looking like he's taking shape! My parents have passed skills down to me aswell! You and your dad have a great relationship which is a huge bonus and allows for you both to spend time together on a project!
I think what you're doing is great, I used to love going into story book land and seeing The Bookworm, a real childhood memory. You are repairing a feature of many peoples childhood. I applaud your commitment to repairing a huge centrepoint of Alton Towers former children's area. 👏 You're a great person and many people appreciate you.
I hope you keep going and keep sharing the restoration. It is a learning process and I'm sure you'll get many tips in the comments from viewers too. Take your time, take any advice, check out more prop making skills and the details you put in will pay off. Look forward to watching more!
I'm loving this series so much - I'm just really wondering the conversation when you told your parents about potentially taking the bookworm home with you 😂
This is such a lovely series. I bet when you took the bookworm home all those years ago you’d never have believed it would provide you with a fantastic opportunity to entertain the TPW community through a pandemic. Sometimes things are just meant to be. You and your dad are making a great job of this project, well done.
You have no idea how much I love this. Knowing that it wasn't just uprooted and destroyed has filled me with such joy during at time when we are all locked indoors and can't go out. I can't wait to see the finished product. Love your channel.
Great series cant wait for part 3 and I can remember the book worm so well from when I went with my grandma and grandad it’s great what your doing brings back so many memories to me and others
Looks great so far and good to see a piece of theme park history get some TLC. Maybe you can go to Blackpool Pleasure Beach and get the big dipper running smoothly without bruising the riders to bits, they might even take suggestions for sorting Infusion as well. (just joking but we all know they need fixing) Keep up the great work on this restoration as well as the fantastic videos.
I’m loving this series. Your dad is amazing for helping you do this and he’s so skilled. It’s coming along amazingly and I can’t wait to see when it’s finished.
Absolutely loving this series! Although I personally don't really remember it being at towers, It's great to see a big part of Alton towers history being restored rather than just thrown away! Great work guys!
This is such an amazing series and I am so excited for the rest of the episodes. Thank you to yourself and your dad for restoring the beloved bookworm from our childhoods. ☺️❤️
Shawn that was of best produced videos on youtube ive seen in a very long time. Superb. The music, your additional dads commentary, the bookworm speaking at the end. Exceptional. I dont think Alton Towers could have done a better job. Cant wait for episode 3.
Love seeing this! Everything is just awesome. Production quality is great, the teamwork between you and your dad, and of course the history behind the Bookworm!
I would love to see this back at the towers to see again, shame it wasn’t given the attention it required, but thank you to you and your dad for this! Would love for it to be at the towers somewhere and have a plaque with you and your dads name, or even a tv screen next to it showing the restoration process!
Honestly, you are just such an incredible person! You love what you do and you throw yourself into it, and by doing something you love, others get enjoyment from it! Thank you so much for uploading all of these videos especially at a time like this, it really means so much to so many people!
I imagine doing it with your dad makes it extra special. Watching him teaching you makes me think I should do better on my home schooling efforts with my daughter lol
Waiting for part 3 is so hard, thanks for giving us so much good content over the quarantine and hopefully we'll be back to our favourite parks in no time!
Exciting seeing how far it's come since it was almost scrapped. Loving this mini series and its also great to see your dad helping along with the project, must have been tough but amazing to work on together.
I can’t wait to see where this project will go! Ever since I started to get into the history of Alton Towers, I started to see this figure pop up! Ever since the la d closed I have always wondered where it went. Then I found out one of my favourite TH-camrs has it! Very excited Shawn!
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing project with us. Can‘t wait to see the next episode. We would love to see it, when we will visit UKs Theme Parks next year. Greetings from Germany.
I really miss seeing the worm on the squirrel nutty ride. Thank you for doing this!
It was such a magical part of the park!
that ride was honestly my whole childhood and seeing the worm again has brought back so many wonderful memories ❤️
To see you restore 1 animatronic that was part of the childhoods of millions of children is amazing
You're getting quite a dab hand with the ol' polly filla. At least you'll be able to get a job making wedding cakes out of all of this :P

I was honestly terrified of the bookworm, but I love this series!
Thanks Matt!
It is pretty terrifying. XD
Thats the same with me lol 😂
It's so much cuter now! 😳
I thought it was a weird looking wizard 😂
What a series! I had so many memories with the iconic Bookworm and once lockdown is lifted I really wanna travel to TPW headquarters and see it again
Thank you, I’d love to open a museum of some form in the future for people to visit to see my collection!
I would love to as well I’m a huge fan of Alton towers in particular
I would love it if Shawn opened a musuem of his collection
@@ThemeParkWorldwide I'd love a TPW Museum

I'm loving this series so much - I'm just really wondering the conversation when you told your parents about potentially taking the bookworm home with you 😂
It was a fun one!
