  • I made this video to demonstrate how to do some simple modifications to a CZ 75B pistol. This video demonstrates how to change the hammer spring and grips. Enjoy.

    It's better not to dryfire the pistol with the slide removed. Instead of being stopped by the slide, the hammer strikes against portions of the pistol that aren't really designed to take that kind of impact. To dryfire with the pistol in field stripped condition, use your thumb or a piece of wood or plastic to arrest the forward travel of the hammer before it strikes other parts.
    The flat spring steel part inside the grip is a magazine brake. It's designed to insure that the magazine doesn't fall all the way out of the gun if the magazine catch is accidentally depressed. Flat magazine brakes are available to allow the magazine to drop all the way free any time the magazine release is depressed. Some guns may ship with the flat brakes these days.
    Any time a hammer spring is replaced, it's important to do some thorough testing in BOTH single- and double-action modes. The hammer strike strength will be reduced by the lighter spring and since the hammer strike from a double-action pull is always lighter than the strike from single-action trigger pull, it's especially important to test the gun in double-action.
    Nice video.

    Ok, so how did the gun perform after doing the hammer spring? I have the stock 20lb in mine and want to change it out, and the trigger out to an 85c original. My 75b eats anything you feed it with no issues and I don't want any by changing out the hammer spring.

      Just a follow-up... 13 lb spring is in. Single action pull went from 4 1/2 down to 3 1/2. Trigger feels less gritty. Very pleased with the results.

      BadWolf did you get any light primer strikes with the 13lb spring?

      Chris Stearns Nope. None at all. Functions perfectly will any factory ammo I use as well as all my reloads.

    I have made the same changes to my 75B but added an extended firing pin, along with a softer firing pin spring and firing pin block spring from Cajun Gun Works. The extended Firing Pin eliminates problems with harder primers.

      Mike Hamilton I did this on my cz 75 bd and it was a very straight forward job, no messing with sear.Does greatly improve decock and single action trigger pull.

    First and foremost, the wood grips really set your pistol off. Great looking pistol. Are there any cons to using a reduced power hammer spring?

    • @projectgattago
      @projectgattago  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +beelikestowatch Thanks for the compliments! The draw back is that sometimes if there is a hard primer, the gun will not fire.

    • @fillemm4271
      @fillemm4271 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      beelikestowatch You ask why mess with it. Should be asking why not. Cz guns are way over sprung from the factory nowadays. 18-20 pound hammer springs stock which makes for a unnecessary heavy double action pull. I run a 13 pound main spring and extended fp and lighter fp spring and Cgw comp hammer in my p01. 0 problems of any kind, da was 13 pounds, now it's just under 8, sa was 5.5 pounds and now It's right at 4. That's why you replace it

      CZ 75 is a pistol designed for defense. All is well designed and balanced for this purpose.
      Some people use this handgun for target or sport and want more precision. This is the reasons why they modificate springs, hammer, etc.
      Stress situations in autodefense or military uses are not compatible with soft triggers. It is dangerous.

    • @82luft49
      @82luft49 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      IIISalvaIII, from a former combat veteran, I couldn't have said it better myself. In a fire fight, the DA pull feels about 2 lbs.

    I was gonna send my CZ-75BD to a gunsmith, but this has shown me that even I could or should be able to do it.
    I'm going to replace the hammer and recoil springs both with a 15# and a stainless steel guide rod. I don't trust that plastic one.
    Thanks for the video.

    • @82luft49
      @82luft49 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing wrong with a plastic guide rod. Very durable. CZ wasn't being cheap. It reduces weight on a already heavy gun. An ss guide rod adds about an ounce. But the additional weight does help with the recoil. Did it to mine.

    Thanks for posting this video! I had bought myself a replacement spring but didn't trust myself with the job until I saw this. I own a 75 P-01, which has a smaller magazine than the 75B (14 rounds vs. 16 rounds of 9 mm, respectively). I had to cut off 2 links of the spring for it to fit.

    New grips look good on your stainless 75B. My poly coated 75B came with plastic grips and I changed them out to the rubber grips. Much better. Also changed my main spring to 15lbs following your video and the trigger is now also a lot better. Was going to do a full trigger job but with the new reduced power spring, I think it'll be good enough!

    I have the same matte stainless and a black polycoat. I've tried the reduced springs and I like the factory spring rates better (I lift weights and can rack any gun). I changed to a stainless one. I went with the CZ all checkered cocobolo grips. I think that the 1/2 checkered grips you are using look cool! Maybe some night sights would be nice?

    We have the same gun, though I don't have those sweet looking grips. Your CZ, however, is way cleaner than mine. I plan on tearing it down for a full cleaning after my trip to the range tomorrow, I'm looking to do something with the trigger as I was having trouble today switching between my Sig P226 40 with SRT and my CZ.

    Man,you're hammer spring went in super easy. I'm trying to do install one on a CZ-75D PCR and it just will not go in. I can't get the little leaf spring retainer to line up with the notch in the part that captures the spring. I might have to send it in to CZ and let them reassemble it for me. I wonder if something like that is covered under warranty. The gun is brand new. I haven't even had a chance to shoot it yet.

    Where did you purchase your new hammer spring? I have a CZ 75B and am interested in doing something like this modification with mine. Also thinking about replacing my recoil spring with a DPM recoil reduction rod. Thanks for the video!

    • @fillemm4271
      @fillemm4271 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Graham The dpm recoil rod is a waste of money. 9mm doesn't recoil much anyway especially in a steel frame gun. Cajun gun works is the place to go for anything Cz, also check out Cz Custom

    Did new spring help single action pull any ? Have you shot any NATO rounds since spring install ? I here NATO rounds have a harder primer.

    • @projectgattago
      @projectgattago  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Changing the hammer spring has very little effect on the single action trigger pull. I haven't tried any NATO ammo, but with the lighter spring I have had some ammo that didn't fire on occasion. I certainly wouldn't do this modification for a carry pistol.

    is the main hammer spring and rod a drop in kit like you would change the recoil spring and guide rod... or do u have to mess with the hammer mechanism? iam a novice and never gunsmith anything in my life....

      makukidd12 The hammer spring has no effect on the recoil spring.

    • @salvadormunoz476
      @salvadormunoz476 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +projectgattago I have the same dude than makukidd12.
      The recoil energy is used for several actions and one of them is to lift the hammer.
      Maybe is needed different energy to push a hammer charged with different spring.
      My question is about a possible compensation changing the recoil spring using a harder one.
      Thank you in advance.

    Does the new spring create less travel in the trigger pull ?

    • @Toolness1
      @Toolness1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It won't create less travel, it just makes the pull lighter. To lessen the travel, you're going to have to replace parts up in the fire control group and trigger mechanism, which gets a little harder and a lot more expensive than just a hammer spring :) Look to Cajun gun works if you're interested in parts for that job. In fact, if you have the money, just send it to them! :)
