Rice is incredibly versatile for meals. The 2lb. bags fits perfectly inside the 1 gal. ziplock bag.

I made a video last year using instant rice only because it takes less fuel to fix up instant rice. I saw how to make rice balls but the rice used in the video was a sticky rice, the same used for sushi - I'll have to see how it can be done with regular long grain rice that you got here.
Rice not only has carbohydrates but also protein and trace amounts of iron, I see a lot of survivalists swear by ramen noodles, granted one package has a TON of carbs but the trade off is they are bulky and you have to crush them up to fit in a small cooking vessel, that's why I prefer rice as a main staple. In my video I made a pretty good sized meal out of a canteen cup, reason being is that if I'm on the run and I have my FLC I'll at least have my canteen with cup, canteen cup stove and lid - basically a small cook pot.

Instant mashed potatoes and powdered gravy... rice is a real hassle to prepare and clean up.

there is a video about an Asian kid that ate noodles every day 3 meals a day, for 30 days. you are suppose to have 3 days between a meal of ramen noodles.
in prison we would crush the noodles in our mug, then put in hot water and put the lid on the mug for 10 minutes, then drain the water and add the powder.
here at home i just add the powder to the noodles and water and leave uncovered for 10 minutes. then eat

Rice Balls sounds like something you might wake up next to after a rough night in Bangkok

Thru-hikers use a “cold soak” method: mix ingredients with water 4 to 6 hours ahead of meal time. (usually in a peanut butter jar.)
-quick tip add some vegetable oil for calories

rice needs to be rinsed before cooking, rinsing helps to remove the LEAD. my wife was born and raised for 27 years in the Philippines and i lived there for awhile too. they weave little baskets from coconut leaves to form a covered box that rice is stored in for 1 persons 1 meal. they cook it and hang it from their street carts roof or roof support . its called HANGING RICE!! they say "RICE IS LIFE"!!!

can a sauce in 1/2 pint jars to put on your rice. a stew or chilli goes good with rice. Asian food stores will have canned meats in the 6 ounce size cans that look like small tomato paste cans!

I keep a variety of flavor packets, seasonings, and condiments in my butt pack. Lately, I've stocked up on the flavored tuna packets(on sale), and they work well alone, or mixed with things like rice. They are far easier to deal with than a can.
Since rice doesn't like me, I've considered carrying lentils and spaghetti type noodles.
