  • Hey Stromer and bike people! After decades of caring for high-end cars and motorcycles and learning the best practices, I've applied that knowledge to my poor, abused Stromer ST3. In this video you'll learn how to properly clean a Stromer without damaging the electronics, paint, or other expensive components. I promise it'll look awesome. As always, please share your thoughts in the comments. Enjoy!

    Awesome, thank you for sharing. Over 11,000km on my ST2 and haven’t performed a cleaning this throughly. Might be time.

    The comment about taking the battery out I would argue against. The battery door is closed and sealed off very well but only when the battery is inside. When the battery is taken out that door won't be shut and sealed but will leave an open gap. So it's best imho to keep the battery in, it won't get wet because otherwise the bike wouldn't be fit to drive in the rain anyways. When the battery is taken out there is a risk for water to get inside the housing compartment and the electronics underneath. Of course you can tape it off perhaps but then that's the same as leaving the battery in and have the door shut and sealed. Disclaimer: I also own a Stromer (and ST2S to be exact).

      Hey there! A couple of points of clarification needed. First, I am simply following Stromer's reco to remove the battery. I imagine to to reduce the chances of a short occurring while washing (which can't happen if there's no battery, hence no current). Lastly, my battery door closes the same whether there's a battery in place or not, but I imagine some Stromers could be different. Thank you for the comments and thank you for watching!

    I installed a suspension dropper post on my st5, great suspension, and i can drop it 120mm if i go down a hill offroad.

    I dont remove the battery from the bike for cleaning it, havent had a problem in 2 years. its pretty well protected against water, barely anything gets into the compartment.

      Hey Insight Show, I recommend removing the battery as that's what Stromer recommends. One may be able to get away with keeping the battery in place but I'm suggesting to play it on the safe side.

    I think the brush is small to penetrate the bike curves wheel

    Very good video about cleaning. Where did you get the Stand? Is there a brand name and is it available in the Netherlands.
    Yours Leon a other Dutch biker

      Leon, The stand I am using is an Ultimate folding stand. While it work ok in a pinch, it's not ideal for a Stromer as the weight of the bike makes it somewhat unstable.

    Great video. What kind of chain lube do you use after cleaning & drying the chain?

    • @nvanpraag
      @nvanpraag  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey John, thank you! I use T9 on all of my bikes. The reason being is it tends to clean the chain in the process of lubing and doesn't collect as much muck as other, more viscous product. It does require re-lubing more often but the trade off is you need to fully clean the chain less often.

    Hi, what about repairing punctures, especially on the rear wheel?

    • @nvanpraag
      @nvanpraag  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey @robertw, great question! I have basically two techniques - one that requires taking the rear wheel off and one that can be done on the road with the wheel on. I'll work up a video!

    Yesterday i upgrade from st1x to st3 with 1000wh battery. I broke 2 thimes the controler on my st1x when preshure washing. So now i do the same like this. Takes longer but the cobtroler is prety expensive.

      NEVER use a pressure washer on an e-bike. It does more bad than good. The only proper way is a hand wash (normal garden hose is okay).

    Thanks for your video. Just got the st1x sport and am loving it. Do you have a car or truck rack you can recommend for the weight of this bike? TIA!

      Hey Iris, sorry for the late reply. I would recommend the Kuat specifically made to carrt heavier bikes. There are typically two models available for each # of bikes capacity. Buy the heavy duty one.

    What is the model of your workshop stand?
    I do not know which to take which is suitable for Stromer, I am afraid that it is not resistant enough or that the clamp is not wide enough!

    • @nvanpraag
      @nvanpraag  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Hugo, I'm not sure of the exact model as it's about 20 years old. With that said I would not recommend it regardless for application and use with a Stormer. It's three-legged, not sturdy enough, and is designed for light weight bikes (30 pounds and less). I will do some research on repair stands for e-bikes and let let you know what I find.

      @@nvanpraag Okay perfect!
      I found this one there, it supports 20kg, after if I put it on the workshop stand I will remove the battery, so there will be 5 kg less, so I think my ST2 is about 19Kg without the battery , should that do it?
