  • We track and capture a timber rattlesnake in Ohio so that we can weigh, measure, and test her for disease before she goes underground for the winter. This research is part of an Ohio State University (OSU) study of this state endangered reptile. Find out more about these beautiful but misunderstood snakes in this video.

Timber Rattlesnakes tend to be more mild-tempered than Eastern Diamondbacks.

I was amazed that she was calm during the actual capture and when she was released. Just alarmed during the tests.

Timber Rattlesnakes are fairly mild-tempered by rattlesnake standards.

Yes indeed. All of Ohios venomous snakes are pretty docile.

Yes, I remember that. I saw a photo of that snake and would not be surprised if it were an escaped pet.

@@buckeyful I don’t know that area really but from what I’ve heard, I’d be surprised if timbers had managed to survive there after all these years. For such an impressive snake, they are pretty delicate when it comes to habitat needs and disturbance. They also don’t tend to go unnoticed for decades by local hunters and hikers 😅

Anywhere from the bottom quarter of stark and all of Carroll counties all the South is Unglaciated Ohio and possibly places where you could find the Three venomous snakes of Ohio. I have only seen the Black Rat snake and Garter, But I am new to snakes and working in the woods and Brush. I saw some snakes that I couldnt identify early on because I knew nothing about them. I dunno.
