  • Is winning the NFC South good enough for the New Orleans Saints in the 2024 season? In this video, James Skrmetta reacts to the NMFC South Preview for 2024 and where the New Orleans Saints rank. Wil the New Orleans Saints win the NFC South? On the Hunt Palmer Show, he talks about the NFC South being the worst division in the NFL and WHY the Saints shouldn't worry about just being at the top of it. Hunt looks at what the big picture should be: worrying about moving up the NFL ranks rather than division ranks. The Saints may be near the top within the division, but near the bottom compared to the rest of the NFL.

    He's got a point. He's talking about aspirations, not realistic expectations. When this team is covered, everyone talks about and references how this team is built to win the NFC South. No one, and I mean no one, ever talks about how we're building this team to one day be a contender in the NFL. The FO is content with the wide receiver room, the FO is content with the RB room, the FO is content with the Safety room. It would be different if we addressed those areas and we were still average, but we've neglected them again this offseason when the opportunity was there to address them, we chose not to again. I'm not personally optimistic about this idling team.

    • @JamesSkrmetta
      @JamesSkrmetta  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@yonicmack7738 Having a SB aspiration is baked in. Every team has that aspiration.
      “The FO is content with the wide receiver room”
      The WR room in the last 5 years:
      - NFL OPOY
      - Sign Top WR in the NFL to $100 million
      - Drafted Olave 11th
      Not exactly kicking their feet up and letting a mediocre WR room happen. Don’t let results not being there skew what’s actually happening. Enjoy the journey!

    • @yonicmack7738
      @yonicmack7738 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      When this season start we don't turn up to the party with "The New Orleans Saints WR room from 2018-2024", the past 5 years only have Chris Olave (A top 30 WR) to show for it, everything else is in the past. I'm talking about what that room looks like RIGHT NOW, it is not a great room.
      It's a room that's needed a big body possesion receiver for the past 3 seasons and they've refused to address it because they believe they'll be "okay".
      So in context to the video, he has a point, the FO has to stop just being content with where we are and they actually have to exhaust all options to try build this team into the best possible football club it can be.
      To some of us, it just does not feel as if that's what they're doing, it feels as if "as long as everyone's got a job and we're competing for the division, we're good".

    • @JamesSkrmetta
      @JamesSkrmetta  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@yonicmack7738 That’s my point though. They did address it. Drafted a Top 10 guy, had the opoy. It didn’t work out so now they have to figure out how to fix it. The first step of that was getting out of Thomas’ contract.
      Each decision, upgrade, downgrade, signing, trade, etc. takes time. Fans of a team need to lean into and enjoy that time just as much as when the team is on top. That’s the journey that I’m talking about.
      OL is another good example. The FO obviously knows the OL is a problem. We just spent the 14th pick on an offensive lineman but they can’t go sign or trade for 5 new starters in one off season. Does that mean they are content with the OL? No. It just takes time.

    • @yonicmack7738
      @yonicmack7738 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It takes time yes, but they are outright looking past issues that need to be addressed. They had opportunities to address the X wide receiver the last 3 off seasons, they chose not to.
      I'm more than willing to give it time if it actually looks like things are being addressed, and the scouting for those personnel choices are being improved upon, that's just not the case at the moment to me, it just seems stubborn or as if there's an air of hubris because the FO actually thinks some areas of this team are good enough.

    Panthers are piling up some high first round draft picks tho. If they protect Young he can produce. On paper we should kick their butts twice this season but division games are tough because of the familiarity. Im optimistic about our offensive line, I'm betting that those guys worked to improve in the off season when nobody was looking because they know that wasn't their best last season. If Fuaga holds his own and Penning can do the same we have McCoy and Ruiz inside and they're good enough to compliment a unit as a whole but who is projected LG Saldiveri? Losing Ramczyk was a hard blow because he was a high draft pick and maybe our best lineman going into last season. If the line can hold their own, everything else will fall into place with the skilled players we have, and Kubiak may be cooking with the secret sauce.

      Raiders are the epitome of a team that wastes early draft picks, having them for a decade straight and STILL tearing down and rebuilding over and over.

    The leading stat is that the 2023 Carolina Panthers did NOT hold a lead in the 4th quarter all season. Both wins were walk off FGs.
    And I believe they are the first team to ever not hold a lead in the 4th quarter at any point in a season.
    FACT CHECKS:
    I would argue the true "two headed monster" of Carolina was Williams and Jonathan Stewart.
    Williams and Deshaun Foster only shared the backfield for two years in 2006 and 2007.
    Williams and Stewart shared the backfield from 2008-2014, including dual 1,000 yard rushing seasons in 2009. In 2011, with Cam Newton, each player had over 700 yards rushing and averaged over 5.0 yards per carry.
    And Stephen Davis was indeed the bell cow in Charlotte in 2003, rushing for 1,400 yards and 8 TD. However, he only played three seasons, and 29 games total, in Carolina form 2003-2005.

    I have some bad news for Saints Fans, the entire time the Saints had Payton & Brees, they played in ONE Superbowl.
    ie. They ONLY had ONE actual opportunity to win a Super Bowl.
