I hope you’re feeling well Keith after the surgery and so on that you’ve had in the last months. You’ve definitely lost weight so I hope that’s a good sign. I don’t know if you’ve mentioned your health in recent videos, but I’m sending you good wishes for your health. Health is far more important than engineering 😁

I am glad you put the original chevron metal ring back in , I believe the reason it was designed this way is the live load on the stack of chevron rings and the cycles of the hydraulic pressure would have sheared the soft face of the supplied flat faced follower.

It's amazing the power these cyl's can exert. I have a set of SUNNEN hones that go from 1 inch to 8 inch I have had for over 30 years and are still like new ( The frames), In my youth I used to bore V8 engines with them. They are all rigid type and not like yours. The hours I spent standing there with an old fassioned 1/2 inch drill. Lots of memories there my friend. I don't know of a press that isn't all musroomed and been beat on. Such a shame. Lazy people in the shop get people hurt or worse. Nice fix my friend. I am sure this fix will give the press a like new power.

Looking at the design 4:22, i can't help but think that the person who designed this cylinder took his inspiration from a valve spring and seat. I don't know that i've seen cylinders done this way, seen the wire type, threaded (most common nowadays), seen them welded shut, but this might be the first time i've seen it done with keepers. Interesting.

  • @EDesigns_FL

If you use a spool value with your new electric pump, you don't need the return springs, but you do need to modify the cylinder. An additional port should be added to convert the cylinder to double acting and the end cap needs to be modified/changed to a sealed cap. These changes will allow you to eliminate the manual pressure relief/return valve and just use a spool valve to move the piston in and out.
