For anyone wondering the combo octane does is : behind the eight ball, reverse pinky Chaplin, helix arial, reverse ring finger chaplain, (and finally)kiss goodbye.
This ^. Also, If this was real he would’ve sliced his hand in two on every trick because it has a blade is on either side and you usually trick with a “safe” edge and a “bite” edge that will cut u.
0:33 Never notice the detail they put into this. I saw that he was spinning the butterfly knife around with his finger between what would be the sharp side of the knife and the bite handle, i.e. slowly cutting his finger off. Then I noticed this is a double sided blades with dull semicircles cut out on the base which is the only thing keeping him from chopping his own fingers off while he plays with the knife.
Yeah I was wondering how he’d do the tricks without slicing his finger and I saw that too except the cutout is pretty small so with his other fingers it would probably dig into his skin
this is probably made just using 20-30 keyframes per second and then interpolating the vertices really, really quickly: unlike with framerate, interpolating between keyframes is much less noticeable unless there are VERY FEW keyframes
@@wheeltapper Keyframes are positions the knife could move to. Then animating is placing those keyframes in the right order and moving to the right ones at the right speed

Aside from a few bits of clipping, this has got to be one of the best heirloom inspects and the best butterfly knife inspect I’ve ever seen in a game. It’s built so nicely that you can’t even really see the clipping without slowing it down.
I love how the butterfly knife or the "balisong" came from my country (Philippines), yet I rarely see or even hear about it here. I only first found it out from CSGO where I was fascinated by it so I researched about it through the net. Feels pretty cool it's pretty popular on other countries especially within the gaming community!
Its kinda impressive to know that octane learned to do all this tricks, something that would take lots of patience, you know, the thing that he least likes to do, wait.
That's the smoothest animation with hands interacting with something in a game i think i've ever seen. There's a little clipping at the end but honestly its pretty believable that hes actually holding it. Good shit Respawn.
The one thing I noticed immediately when I got the Octane heirloom was that after slide jumping and then Octane fidgets with his knife, about 0.5s after he finally assumes the Icepick grip, you can slide jump again. Pretty consistent netting a shorter interval between jumps. The animation queue really helps buuuuut then again just simply getting the rhythm for it when you can slide jump is enough honestly
Pretty sure you only need to be sprinting for 0.15 seconds to initiate another slide jump. Mokeysniper did a video on it when he was talking about Faide slide jumps.
Weirdly enough yes, yes I have but it’s good that you brought attention to this and one reason being how much work was put into a heirloom while the other is that there’s already people in real life doing this.
I actually just noticed something really sick, i myself have done butterfly knife tricks for around 12 years and the moment i saw his balisong i thought nah it doesnt work because it's double edged.. but seeing the animation his fingers never touch the sharp part of the blade only the blunt lower part of it
I flip balisongs regularly, and have a model octane heirloom. And believe me it's super hard to do with that wierd part sticking out of the blade so I commend octane for doing this WITH GLOVES on as well
I used to have one of those fake knives things with the 3 blades to practice tricks on, so it's so cool having my favourite legends heirloom literally be a variation of that
This is definitely one of the best animations in the game. It's sad that it takes so long to get to the flipping segment of the animation so it rarely gets seen.
I am just now realizing how fitting it is for Octane, the self injuring adrenaline junkie, to have a butterfly knife that he does INSANELY dangerous tricks with
This combo is possible on an actual balisong, as such i encourage you all to learn it if you have one, albeit some sacrifices as some tricks will end up with cuts
Literally bought myself a balisong trainer today as a birthday gift to myself, and i was wanting to learn octane's animations. Thank you for the amazingly timed video!

as you can see at 0:04, the blade part has two parts seperated by metal parts of the blade sticking out on each side. they seem to be pretty dull, so he would not receive any sort of injury by spinning it like that!!
Not necessarily, he does multiple tricks where the closing would hit his fingers, with momentum being the only thing stopping it from actually hitting his fingers. I only know relatively basic balisong tricks but he can definitely receive some serious injuries spinning it like this if he makes any mistakes, which is very easy at the speed he’s spinning it at.
They have differt melee emotes when punching and there's a really rare one where u melee and it's a tbone steak the character uses to hit with, I saw it with someone using Gibby, idk if other legends have different ones
