I feel the same way. I've been listening to 98 plugged tour performances lately and they're so amazing. But girl is getting old and her voice quality will never be what it once was. I agree with the other comments that she seems to really need to pause, breathe and go at her own speed. At the same time, I have this fantasy that for her next tour shill get a new band that can accommodate her current abilities with her voice..
@iwo beger Tori's voice can handle anything it chooses to. If Stevie Nicks can manage playing with a full band... said with love. Playing solo gigs doesn't come with the amount of stress, coordination and expense that touring with a band necessitates. Just my take on it.

Oct. 2017 Madison, WI show bought out by scalpers. Makes it not worth trying to go to concerts anymore. Tried to get 2 tix and box office told me sold out but online ticket resale has some for sale. I smell something fishy here.
I bought 3 tickets right at 10am in the pre-sale and am half-way back in the theatre. I have no idea, but yes, it seems bizarre. Minneapolis was the same for my friend. I don't think it's Ticketmaster, but possibly it's an internet scam. Maybe I'll do a survey at the show.
I don't think she butchered the song... but her voice did aged pretty bad. She should work with a Voice Therapist, someone who understands vocal production physiology, because she is straining too much. It sounds strained. I don't understand also why use a acoustic piano sound on a keyboard having an grand piano just behind her. I wouldn't mind if she decided to use only keyboards but at least with a band, and not seeking a noisy feel with the band. I felt like those last years she was with the band were the worse ones... noisy, straining voice to cut off in the band mix... now she can seek a more healthy yet rounder and fuller sounding tone.
I wish she would use her chest voice more... the constant falsetto\head voice is just... difficult. Once in a while she belts and it's like.. "There she is!" and then she goes right back into that weird voice.
That's a bit harsh, in my humble opinion. I think know she's not focusing on her solo career. And she can afford to do that. I don't think she is a weak lyricist, and well... I think she's having problems with her vocal style, and how it's working (or not working out) in the stage. If it was me, I would seek a Vocal Coach or Voice Therapist, or ideally both, and work to get my voice as healthy as possible to change the interpretation of these songs to a more healthy way. As we get older singing in the same keys is a bit difficult, we have to adapt the music to our voice, or change repertoire over time. And as far as I woud do, I would use more of a mixed voice, because she strains too much on the chest area. And about the inventiveness, to me, it seems she's not exposing her personal life anymore, and letting it bleed in the music as she did before, because she might want to let her personal life, well, personal. And I wouldn't mind, because she's a human being, with family, child, husband... and personal issues that she might want to deal away from the midia. Which is completely understandble.
You do realize she's in her 50's, right? And continues to play a variety of songs at her fans' request rather than just perhaps a few she could focus all her efforts on. It's really incredible that someone at her age has still retained a lot of characteristic talents, such as her piano playing and vocals. Your harshness is really unappreciated. You yourself, when you come to old age (if you haven't already) will likely be disappointed that you won't be able to do a whole variety of things that you could when you were younger. The difference between you and an artist is that an artist will continue to cultivate their art form into something different as they age, and it will still be beautiful to those who have the common sense to acknowledge that aging changes, but doesn't diminish the art. While you, in your anticipatory old age, will only have the ability to do the same old mediocre things you did when you were younger, just slightly worse. Including but not limited to wiping your own crusty ass.
I've never heard anyone say, "I like Tori Amos." It's always, "I love Tori Amos." And oh how we love her.
