Nice video don. The Best one I seen so far. I was amazed by this beautiful ancient home. Seems like is going to be a rewire to remembered.

What a beautiful home. They don't build them like that anymore. The woodwork. The attention to every detail. The craftsmanship is unlike anything you will ever find at lowes or home depot. Just curious. Any idea what year the home was built? With a fireplace in every room leads me to believe the home was built before electricity came along and that the knob and tube wiring was installed at a much later date whenever they had power run into the neighborhood like in the 1910s to 1920s when electricity was finally becoming a reality for many families in middle class citys and suburbs

Between 1880 and 1910, gas pipe is in the existing electrical boxes. The home was originally installed with gas lanterns, then retro fitted with electrical in the early 1900’s.

@@DonaldMillerElectric so also just curious, with the gas pipe in the electrical boxes, did they run the electrical wires through the gas pipe, or in other words, was the existing gas pipes re-purposed as conduit. I myself have helped remodel old homes and heard from an old timer electrician that the conduit listed for electrical used today has thraded fittings much like you would find on black iron gas pipe is because in the early days of electricity like late 1890s to the 1910s many of the homes at that time had gas lights but had used the gas pipe to pull wires through because it saved from having to tear into the plaster and lathe, conmon in homes fron that era, or run the wires surface mount with the porcelain insulators. Is that true?

The gas pipe was often terminated in the electrical box but too small to use for wiring. The older iron conduit is threaded with threaded couplings. We were able to reuse the old conduit to rewire some locations. Horace Trumbauer would use pipe work for his electrical, we rewired two of his buildings.

Donald, was the knob and tube fished in the walls after the house was built?

Nope, the house was built with a pipe system for wiring as well as gas depending on what system they wanted to use.
