    All my uncles joined the Canadian and Royal Navy in 1939. My youngest uncle was on a Canadian Corvette until 1942 when he was lost at sea. Torpedoed by German sub while escorting convoy. This movie was a great insight into their lives and thank you for remembering them.

    During Viet Nam war I served aboard the U.S.S. Cone DD866 . The Kidd was part of the task force we were assigned to. Alas, the Cone was scrapped back in the nineties. I salute the men who before my time were in harms way and served in a war that left no doubt as to the reasons for conflict. Can"t wait to see this film! And thank you Mr. Hanks for your genuine interest and concern for all our current and former military people. "One over, two under!"

    Watched it last night it was awesome. The sheer horror the crew of those ships faced are unimaginable. Constant fear of death sleepless nights. Hats off to all those brave sailors who kept the war falling from the Nazis. And Tom Hanks is as usual awesome in biopics. Love from Bangladesh.

    Shame I read a book about a young kiwi airman that was sent to Canada to finish training & then to Uk on a convoy... he speaks of the state & commitment of those civilian sailors... the “merchant marine” , the sleepless, nail biting trip with u boats taking ship down, the hate n fear that he as a kid.., saw in these hard hard men... he said that he never saw greater commitment, or aggression toward the Nazis in all the combatants that he saw later in combat...
    It was the most serious & seriously gotten right part of his book.
    It steeled him more everything afterwards... standing on deck at stations... watching ships around them light up, fold up. Leaving no trace... & then the screams of his crew and those in the water near by...
    Possibly the greatest human story never told b4..., good on Tom n co!🌹

    • @DigitalMentorGroup
      @DigitalMentorGroup 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @Tiger Tiger I agree. My father was an officer on several Head Line ships, crossing the North Atlantic numerous times in World War 2. He, and all those 'hard men' of the merchant marine need to be acknowledged. Their sacrifice needs to be recognized. Yet, at least in Canada, there are no celebrations for them on Remembrance Day. That is a crime. Imagine going to war, defenceless? Terrified? Profoundly affected by the ravages of PTSD?

      My parents met during WWII in England and married in 1943 because, they say, you don't know if you will live another day, during the bombing of London. Seize the moment. Dad lost his best and dearest friend on a ship that was torpedoed. He talked about 'Nobby' Clarke many times, as if he was in the room. Dad's been gone almost 20 years - mates together again now for sure.

America to vote for a likeable, competent, empathetic celebrity is unthinkable. The movie looks like and appear to have the same theme as the classic book:-"The Cruel Sea by Nicholas Monsarrat". War movies based on reality and Tom Hanks that can make you believe with some obscure talent that he is that character in that movie, makes me look incredibly forward to watching it. What an amasing actor.

      Another book Greyhound is similar to is the book it was based on, The Good Shepherd, by C.S Forester. It's a great book, many course changes though and a large use of the phrase 'very well'. But check it out. It's an amazing novel.
