As a drummer, this guy is fucking inhumane. It is genuinely offensive how good he is.
Not only how good he is. ANd the techniques he can pull off. His timing looks like its been grid aligned when it hasn't. Dude's a robot.
That's how I feel watching him. Never seen somebody so inspiring and so deflating, as he stomps our ambitions into the floor completely disrespecting any and every sort of posture rules

Also to be noted, Chris use a regular chain pedal... Not a direct drive one.. meaning there's a slight delay in the kick process.. to be able to do such speed with chain pedal, yeah that's inhuman
Sure but its not like direct drive adds any kind of extra speed or precision.

Chris is one of all time favorite drummers. No triggers and edits, great sense of humor and down to earth. And above all, an absolute MONSTER on the kit
It's insane and the best in the world on it, just imagine using that like 98% drummers do, even the ridiculous of estepario uses it hahaha Turner is a monster behind the kit, Kylee from counterparts is also a fucking bomb and I think that guy also dont use triggers

Chris is so freaking awesome! As someone that used to play drums years ago, stuff like this REALLY makes me want to get back into it. This and some deathcore drumming just makes me love it so much more! I just wish years ago I could have afforded a double kick pedal.

How is direct drive even relevant?
@auscryptocurrency1162 I guess cause for me, I would've double stroked certain faster parts, and I find it cleaner to double stroke with direct drive. Of course that's just my personal way of playing and my own opinion. There's more than one way to play everything though so I try to be open minded especially with different techniques.
@@ToSlay_Eliyeah nice bro and fair enough it's your preference, that's cool. I guess I should say that not all chain drives are the same though, some manufacturers have way less tolerance in the parts they use than others. This guy is using one of the best brands/models around, plus it's double chain so it's even less possible chain stretch. Most of it is technique imo, when I heel toe there is no chance for the chain to actually go slack between the strokes, so it's kind of like it's direct drive anyway if you know what I mean.
@auscryptocurrency1162 See, that's what I would struggle with when I had chain drive. But maybe my setup was bad or just cheap pedals, idk for sure. All I know is when I had switched to axis direct drive, my double strokes were way easier and cleaner to get consistently. And honestly, I never went back and tried any other chain drives. Thanks for the insight though! I appreciate learning where I can

So, I know he's not wrong about the BPMs, but I prefer the metronome to be double speed for my stuff, so I'd be playing with it at 250bpm instead of 125bpm. When playing fast paced stuff, having the double speed metronome helps a lot.
Chris Turner is the only other modern drummer that belongs up there with Matt Garstka.

Anytime I see someone using the DW 9000 series pedals I get so excited. lol I’ve had the double pedal for 10+ years. It’s the best chain pedal ever made. Smooth as butter and super adjustable.
