As NBA All-Star Chris Paul prepares to add published author to his long list of accolades, releasing his book Sixty-One on June 20th, CP is sitting down with Ryan, Channing and Fred for a in-depth conversation covering decades of playing the game he loves, relationships with teammates, memories of Kobe and the meaning of family starting with his grandparents, parents and now as a husband and father to his own children. Opening up and sharing never-told-before stories and reflecting on a journey of creating a unique life and legacy that has allowed him to be proud of the man he is today on and off the court.
A future first ballot hall of famer, CP’s storied basketball career from Wake Forest to the NBA to Olympic gold medals to being a 12x All-star to leadership as union President to trailblazing the fight against social injustices while creating a legacy far beyond the court, truly makes Chris Paul one of the most impactful athletes of our time.
Opening up about these moments, sharing how he’s celebrated the good and learned from the bad, dealt with the heart aches of loss, injury, trades and the passing of his friend Kobe Bryant, Chris doesn’t shy away from answering tough questions and setting the record straight on rumors over the years and giving us a court side seat to his 18+ years of evolving as a man and teammate to earn the respect and carry on making the name on the back of his jersey one we will never forget.
Reflecting on childhood moments that helped shape him as the man he is today, Chris emotionally remembers the strength and work ethic he learned at an early age from his grandfather who he tributes so much of his growth and success to. Scoring 61 points after his grandfather’s passing in his honor seemed serendipitous to the story of family and the foundation he would continue to build upon as his career and life evolved. Recognizing how fortunate he was to grow up with both his parents and maintain a close bond, Chris has prided himself in always being a hands on dad and takes that job the most serious and with the most joy.
And of course Channing couldn’t let CP slide without asking him about the infamous Banana Boat photos that surfaced years ago…definitely don’t want to miss this one!

This is a side of Chris Paul I've never seen before. We tend to see the negative stuff, on how challenging of a teammate he is, etc. but the Pivot helps us see the human side of Chris. I love love love the Pivot. I was watching when two of you were with IAA. I think this is much better. I'm writing to say I watched this podcast and it was so warm and inspiring. I am a nearly 59yr old BF and I try to watch all your podcasts. I have a celeb crush on RC. He is so humble and decent. Its hard to imagine him aggressive as players need to be to play the sport.
Back to the Chris Paul thing. To RC and CP: you dont know how deeply your life experiences have touched me as a mother of two BM in their 20's. Your decency, integrity, vulnerability and transparency as men, fathers, husbands, sons, etc means there is hope for all our men. Your faith in God.
Your audience isnt just men or athletes. I am a faithful viewer and I appreciate what you all are putting out into the world. I wish the man I love were like you all. I've been engaged to him 2.5 years but leaving him tomorrow. I have to just walk away. Seeing you all only confirms for me that there is a better man out there waiting for a lady just like me to love, support, respect and honor him while we watch Pivot together.
I wish you all would do a few more shows on the abusive men; mentally, emotionally unavailable men we spend our lives supporting in hopes of their transformation to better men. 'robert clayton' is not my name....its my daddy's name. I use it to keep him on my mind and to honor him.
Keep blessing us.

Great episode as always! Love CP even more now.
As always, I enjoyed this episode of The Pivot Podcast but this one means so much because I'm a New Orleanian who will always love Chris Paul and his family. Although there are many reasons for my feelings toward Paul and his family, these are the primary three: 1) he always gave his best for Hornets/Pelicans fans; 2) he treated my niece - who is currently 18 yo - and her kindergarten classmates to a Target shopping spree - which she remembers to this day and 3) when he left the city, he showed his gratitude by leaving a few "Thank You" billboards around the city. The third reason made me cry...seriously, I was riding on I-10, the day after the announcement was made of his leaving the city, and looked up and saw his "Thank You" sign; burst into tears....real talk!
This is the first interview I’ve watched of CP3.. just a genuine good guy🔥🔥

Chris Paul Greatest point guard of all time!!!!
I came from the same hometown as CP3 (Winston-Salem, NC), so to see him not only make it to the league but to still be playing after 18 seasons, he's a true success story. I know there's tons of sports analysts and media pundits and internet trolls who try to talk trash about him because he doesnt have a chip, but Im telling you, for him to come from humble beginnings like he did and to work hard to get where he is today, he's winning. Call him CP0 all you want, he's a future Hall of Famer, got a net worth of well over $100 million dollars, has established generational wealth for his family, and has had a positive impact on millions of people worldwide. CP3 has done well for himself and its a pleasure for me to see him excel on a high level.
Thank you Pivot for bringing him on your show!!
You must be older bc ppl in his age group don’t even rock with him like that. You really don’t know anything
@@SalemGurl8701 Interesting take. However, what do you mean I 'really don't know anything'?
@@eveighty0 there’s more below the surface. Honestly, do you ever hear or see anyone in Winston talk about him or his accolades??? Is he ever in the Winston Salem Journal as Winston’s own?? 🧐🧐 He did not come from humble beginnings. He was good
@@SalemGurl8701 Interesting take again, I must say.
Out of curiosity: are you from Winston Salem? Whether you are or not, you come across as if the entire city of Winston has zero love or respect for CP. I guarantee you that's not the case. While some may dislike him, despise him, or hate him for whatever reasons, I'm sure there's a number of people from Winston who love him and appreciate the work he's put in to get to the NBA, to star in the NBA, and to remain in the NBA for a lengthy period of time. And even if there isn't anyone, then I'll be that one guy who will show him some love & recognize what he's done in his basketball career. As he mentioned during the Pivot, he's not perfect. And that goes for all of us. But again, I recognize and appreciate what he's done as a basketball player to succeed on the court. When I mentioned coming from humble beginnings, I didn't mean that he wasn't good & talented. I meant that he came from an ordinary bloodline that believed in hard work & dedication. I may be wrong, but I don't think there's anyone in his bloodline before him who made it in the NBA. I believe he's the first one in his family to make it to the NBA. And yes, while he was good (very good I might add), he worked very hard to improve and get even better as he advanced from West Forsyth to Wake Forest to the NBA. He didn't just sit on his talents, but he worked and got better (and still continues to work to this day.)
I've shared my position & opinions on CP3, and I'm interested to hear what you have to say. What's your opinion on his basketball career? What 'below the surface' info do you have on him (basketball wise) that I don't know about? Please share...
@@eveighty0 we went to different high schools but in the same graduation year. Yes, he worked hard and it’s awesome that he is successful. In my opinion, he isn’t the most friendly or down to earth….at least compared to Josh Howard.
