    That Hurricane is one of the very best model kits I have seen, and I have seen a LOT of them.
    And to read that Arma Hobby started in someone's living room 10 years ago. They are the peer of the best now.

    Really enjoyable and informative build and an excellent finished project. I recently completed Arma Hobby’s 1/72 scale Mustang and tbh, it was ridiculously overly complex. Some of the decals could not be seen without a fairly strong magnifying glass - pointless. So after leaving a fair few out it built up into a lovely 1/72 representation. But I promised to stick to their 1/48 kits going forward!! Keep up the great work Gary! Really loving your show.

    It does build into a stunning model and is well engineered. The only thing is the sprue gates going into fine edges on some parts like the wings. I would recommend a razor saw to cut as closely to the edge of the part as possible then filing off the remainder of the gate. If you use a knife guarantied you will cut into the part at some time.

    Great Build as always Gary, 1 problem I wish i didn't have to point out and which I also did. When you placed the fuselage on the wing you let the rear armour plate go to far back, the plate should be in front of the fuselage halves behind the seat. I hope the others building this kit will watch for that. Best regards keep up the good work. Andy

      Thing is Barry, you look at the top surface of the wing and all the detail there, but then remember I didn't do any panel washing. Just black primer, bit of highlighting then the top colour and all that detail still shows through.

      Even with all the relief? That's very interesting, because there must be either some stretch in the decal or they designed it knowing it would have to conform to the surface. Might see if I can ask them about that!

    Gary, youll find when you dry fit that parts 57/58 landing lights need to be swapped around as theyre mis numbered. Thats why your wing doesnt fit properly.

    Arma recommend shaving or removing some of the rear shelf for the landing light inserts - they are not quite right and will give fit issues for the wings. Well done and thanks for the video - this looks a cracking kit indeed!

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it was on the errata sheet I told everyone to paste into their instructions then forget myself... It is an amazing kit - can't wait to see what they do next in 1/48 (maybe a P-51, maybe a P-39?)

  • @NazidKimmie
    @NazidKimmie 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    That cockpit frame assembly is light years away from the Fly models 1/32 Hurricane! Which has basically '0' engineering involved.. you kinda have to guess where things go! Hopefully one day someone will doe a decent 1/32 Hurricane with this level of engineering and detail.

  • @timwingham8952
    @timwingham8952 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    That fuselage/wing fit is excellent. The Hasegawa 1/48 offering always gave me trouble there. I still think of that Hasegawa kit as "new". It's not. I'm just getting old....

  • @iannicholls7476
    @iannicholls7476 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great build Gary. I’ve just received mine so watching your experience and tips has been very timely. One thing puzzles me though. If I have read the instructions correctly it tells us, it step 33, to fit the flame shields to option 2 only. Surely they would be fitted to the night fighter (option 1) rather than the day fighter? Well, when I do my JX-E it’s having flame shields whatevers!

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It did puzzle me mate. I can see that for dawn patrols and whatever flame guards are good, but I think option 1 was more a night intruder than fighter - but then you've got to find the target at low level in pitch black so a flaming Merlin in your line of sight can't help in the avoidance of power cables and the like!

    • @iannicholls7476
      @iannicholls7476 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Odd isn’t it? I suppose the answer could be more prosaic. Given that, essentially, there was no difference between the “day” and “night versions” maybe Tuck’s squadron just happened to get one delivered that had flame shields. After all, there was a war on!

    With the Mig Ammo One Shot primers how are you spraying them? I have so many clogging issues with them even following Mig's instructions. Do you thin them or have some magical needles size that doesn't clog? 😂

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I thin them about 80/20 primer to thinner.

    Gary ol’boy what is “duraaluminin” and why do we need it?
    Bob
    England

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Duraluminium (trade name Duralumin, often just called dural) is an alloy of aluminium and 3-5% copper, with traces of other elements such as magnesium and manganese. It's an age-hardening alloy, so after forging the piece is very slowly cooled to allow a process called precipitation hardening to take place within the metal structure. Dural has the lightness of aluminium but much better torsional stiffness and tensile strength, so works very well as a structural material for aircraft. Adding copper does make the surface more susceptible to corrosion, so an outer layer of high-purity aluminium is often applied to components. This aluminium cladding is known as alclad - probably why the paint was called that!

Reason I ask is because I'm doing the beaver first in the group build and I've been having problems with the varnish peeling off when I use the the decal set even though the varnish and decal solutions are both ammo mig..??

      Now you see my dilemma. I prefer 48th or 32nd, and don't need 12 of them in my stash. It already takes up a 4x8 shelving unit, plus what's out on my desk 😜. Lots of recent good to great quality hurricanes, which to choose? Has to have a Polish squadron option, aftermarket if needed. She's going to be a dirty bird in her work clothes, so detail matters. Going to be a "take my time build".
      Which would you choose for the one and only in the stash?
