Apparently, that’s just the name the EDF gave him, while the aliens refer to him as Tah-Um. I just assumed he has multiple names, each given to him by the other species he conquered and enslaved or eradicated.

One by one Sam's friends and fellow soldiers die until he is all on his own, having only an AI in his head to keep him company and guidance. He is the only hope humanity has for survival after the war in the present was lost and Earth shattered into a billion pieces, traveling through distant past to prevent this tragedy from ever happening. A tragedy he himself is partially responsible for as he was the one who accidentally roused the One Infinite from his deep slumber in the first place.
@@Hyde-dg7ef Yep. Sam was the captain of the starship Surveyor on the fateful exploration mission to Sirius. There, Sam gave the order to investigate a strange, spherical arrangement of asteroids around the planet. Sam and his crew tripped the alarm and then everything went to Hell.

Lol, i still remember the grand cathedral, in that level they even added a quote where sam would say "i hate running backwards" if the player retreated too much during one of the enemy waves
Serious Sam 4 gives us more backstory in the how Mental came to attack Earth: Humanity discovers traces and technology from a civilization far more ancient than the Egyptians, giving them a huge leap in technological development. The governments, wanting to search for the source of the technology, race towards the planet Sirius, to which the captain of the Battlecruiser Saratoga; Sam "Serious" Stone would then accidentally awaken The One Infinite from his slumber. Wanting to atone for what he did, Sam joins the frontlines for the battle against Mental's Horde throughout the solar system. If you take the games and Tormental into account, you'll discover more lore.
I think the current schedule was Talos Principle 2 -> Serious Sam 2 remake -> mayyybe Serious Sam 5 (another prequel where Sam wakes up Mental? Who knows.)
@@kylekomicbro1836Then at LEAST let us finally cut him off from the universe and trap him in an alternate dimension or something. If they don't end the story soon, Serious Sam is gonna end on a cliffhanger after Croteam goes under.
Hopefully SS5 can refine the lore into something more digestible like Doom Eternal. I’d really like to know more about each iconic enemy’s history as well as the downfall of the Serians.
Well, i'd say the downfall of the Sirians is the same as humanity's. They were a spacefaring civilization that had the misfortune of either waking Mental up or being advanced enough to be noticed during his purge cycle. They refused to aid him in the extinction of other advanced species so he wiped them out and raised them from the dead as disposable cannonfodder. Each enemy seen in the games was either killed and revived as a minion, a beast bred or artificially created to kill whatever it is pointed at or willingly joined Mental.
To be fair, what lore there is for the enemies is actually pretty interesting. The Gnaars were apparently discovered on the Sirian home world and easily controlled by Mental due to their stupidity. The Kleer were extreme pacifists who got nuked to extinction due to being useless to Mental, only for him to reanimate their remains. The Aludran Reptiloids lost their civilisation and were reduced to a decadent cult after their home system went supernova. Mental offered them power and an escape from their squalor in exchange for their service. The Witch Brides counted on Achriman to protect them from Mental, but he betrayed them and trapped them in limbo between the universe and the Shadow Plane, forcing them to obey him and Mental by extension. The Khnum established a small interstellar empire where they were revered as gods. When Mental found them, the Khnum were impressed by his might and willingly joined him because of it. The Arachnoids were a warrior race who joined the horde after a Mental-worshipping cult usurped their previous government. Supposedly, he also interfered in their early evolution in order to guarantee his influence over them. The Octanians joined Mental out of religious reasons. Based on the Arachnoids’ backstory as told by Charlie in SS4, I suspect Mental influenced a cult among them to take power and force the rest of them into his service. There also seems to be a connection between the Octanians and the Protopolyps. I don’t know all that much about the likes of the Werebulls, Bio-mechanoids, Beheaded and Harpies, other than that they were artificially made in lab conditions. Oh yeah, and the Draconians…like fire?
@@ShawndaPrawn The beheaded are literally the Sirians. They are described as 6ft tall humanoids with three fingers. That's them. SS3 appears to pull a retcon with the alien corpse, but I explain that as what we call "the Sirians" being a collection of closely allied races rather than just one. The Sirians that focus on tech (that built the SSS Centerprise) are the 6ft humanoids (now beheaded), while the tall "alien" Sirians focus on magic/technomagic.

man im so fucking into serious sam lore my brain is starving for more but hopefully croteam will finally summarize it all in serious sam 5 or make a book or smth
Personally, I believe Croteam has to make Serious Sam game set on different planet/dimension Serious Sam 2 style. Ancient setting is no longer possible because it's too limiting and making endless prequels isn't an option either. Serous Sam 3 worked because it showed last days of Earth's resistance and the levels (especially later ones outside the city) were great and very reminiscent of FE and SE. Serious Sam 4 on the other hand, went all in with modern setting and lost lots of its charm. I'm not saying going full sci-fi is the answer, but it's certainly better, in my opinion, than the current modern setting on Earth that is uninspired and been done to death in other games.
