- The Passenger Pigeon was once the most abundant bird species on Earth, with flocks numbering in the billions. Now, they are gone. Kaimere has given them a second chance, but their destructive migration has won them no allies, and Kaimeran conservationists worry their story might come to a similar conclusion.
Songs of the Inland Sea is the sequel to Tales of Kaimere! It is a nautical anthology, with all six short stories and novellas taking place in aquatic settings. There are heists on a ship, a desperate chase through a marsh, and a survival story from the perspective of a killer whale!

2:12 *Primary Harvest Ground, Earth*
The implications of that are... interesting, to say the least.
😈
Wait a second, "Travel to any of the planets the portal harvested from including its primary harvesting ground Earth". Sneaky little thing to mention.
I’m a sneaky sneaky man
Saddest story in doves family...fortunately they still alive in Kaimere and in our heart
THE BEST EPISODE SO FAR !
One of the most symbolic, the most nostalgic, the most sentimental, the most educative about us and our own society, and the most well-made you realize !
And the music is amaizingly well chosen, effective, sad, to the point that some of us can have a tear in the eye...
20/10 for this episode ! (because it was really, but really great !)
Thank you so much!
Tales of kaimere ost do be pretty good ngl
Note : The Gildback Eagle, at 6:50, have the same size than a Golden Eagle, which mean around 66 to 102 centimetres (26 to 40 in) in length and with a wingspan of 1.8 to 2.34 metres (5 ft 11 in to 7 ft 8 in), and represent the largest size a hawk or any true predatory bird (Owls, Falcon and others) can reach, due to the Pterosaurs' presence.
Teratorns and Vultures are exception, but it's because they are generalist opportunist and scavenger, who don't chase after preys and as such don't compete a lot with Pterosaurs.
What if peregrine falcons reached kaimere
Glad that one of the most iconic extinct bird species managed to thrive in kaimere, hope we get to see more video of extinct animals persisting in the lands of kaimere!
What about dodos? Maybe they survive somewhere in Kaimere?
@@ianswinford5570 Quite the possibility, though with all the predatory/competitive fauna of Kaimere (especially with pterosaurs, Brontosaurs, terror birds and even pests that caused their extinction on Eartg in the first place) Though there are quite a few surprising turns of evolution of Kaimere so who knows, maybe it can find a
niche part in the world to thrive in, or even branch off into an even bigger group than before.
I find it funny how while the passenger pidgeon is alive and well something like a chimp is basically extinct and is merely a cryptid like Bigfoot. Context really is king
we cant even clone them either because we dont have and cannot assemble their dna, passenger pigons died so completely we cant even make morally questionible copys.
Yeah, birds and reptiles are much, MUCH harder to clone than mammals.
I've always wondered how Passenger Pigeons would survive on Kaimere, surely they would be a force to be reckoned with, ecologically dominant, and feared by farmers across the land.
This episode did a great job of explaining it! The real life history of this amazing bird was also really nice to discover.
Easily the most intriguing part of this episode was the rewilding initiative, and Kaimerans' attitudes towards it.
I wonder what other species have been considered for reintroduction? The Highland Mammoth perhaps?
I wasn't expecting the elephants series to come this early, but the surprise was, to be sure, a welcome one! _Six parts?_ What could they possibly all be on?
I remember one was for their evolutionary history, one was to cover modern taxa, and there were single species episode for the Koga, Drenduga and Chuga, but that's only five.
Excited to see what comes next!
after I’ve thinking so much about Holocene extinction, but this intro/music and title gave me goosebumps.
Love the balence of their second chance in your fantasy world with the reminder of why and how they went extinct in the first place
Thank you! Yeah the same traits which resulted in their extinction on Earth could well render them extinct even by other means, such as an avian epidemic. Their strategy is not one of stability
I watch every video you release within at least a day or two, but this has been one of my favorites. For some reason, the image of the different Kaimerans/Humans convening around the table, debating over the rewilding of a species the humans of earth destroyed, really got to me.
I'm glad to hear it! Was fun to depict a scene like that, showing some tension within the debate
If passanger pigeons were to be reintroduced to Earth 🌍 Assambly should have a good excuse for how this presumaly extinct bird is back somehow
Yeah it might have worked earlier, but at this point it’s likely too late short of going public
@@TalesofKaimereerhaps they could set up a fake institute/ scientific project that would claim to have revived the species via cloning, Jurassic Park style.
@@SanderVF yes but they'd have to be careful not to "bring back" animals that are too derived
Even tho Kaimere's fake, I do wish for passenger pigeon's to be brought back, so that we can use the same cloning technology to clone endangered species.
@@mandrakeblake-tw1uv I can agree some what with that, though honestly most logical thing to do first is to protect and restore the creature's environment first, than practice cloning endangered species and then try to see if we can bring those species back? I'm just saying that's something that should be talked about more.
I’d love to have seen flocks of these birds in real life. But the closest we get are when bats leave their roosts in the evening. Not that I’m complaining. Anyway, can’t wait for whatever biological wonder or horror from Kaimere you show us next!
At my high school in Wisconsin we had taxidermy bird display. In it were 2 passenger pidgins. They were beautiful.
That’s awesome. They were gorgeous birds
as someone who lives in the The region in which the passenger pigeon used to live Upper midwest think they use to block out the sky right about this time of year so sad they died the way they did 😢
With the current cloning efforts for passenger pigeons I don’t think it would be a stretch for Kaimerans to reintroduce the birds around the same time the clones are released.
The problem is that the people who would monitor the cloned pigeons would notice a sudden influx of more adult birds which wouldn't correspond with the data from the nesting. And when they start to investigate where these additional pigeons came from they'll like run DNA tests which will show that the new birds are from a completely unrelated lineage to the cloned ones. This will raise the question of where did they suddenly came from, because it would seem unbelievable to even consider a relict population that was unnoticed for more than a century in one of the most densely populated parts of North America. This would lead to further investigation which would threaten to expose the Assembly and Kaimere as a result.
Excellent work Keenan!! I would love to hear more about this “Rewilding Initiative”, whether it be through a novel or through a video.
It will probably be discussed in some capacity in the novels and definitely the bestiary
That intro was AMAZING!!! the music was majestic, calming, and melancholy.
Thank you!
I'm happy that these birds have gotten success on Kaimere, and the Rewilding program seems interesting. The music sounds beautiful.I noticed that you got your own writing system for kaimere and I'm curious how did you do it.
Timestamp?
@GustafUNL what time stamp?Do you mean the words? You could find it during this time 7:55 to 8:05
@@shingtiong9425 Yeah the writing system, thanks.
It's possible it's just a fake conlang(con-writing system?) but without confirmation it's hard to say.
I have the basics of over a dozen conlangs and several writing systems but haven’t yet finished that project
The weight of the bittersweetness is great to bare. Hope we can enable people and animals to flourish and thrive in this world 🌎
Thank you! Yeah it was definitely a somber episode
Spec Kino is back again!
When you said that the species will either stabilize or becoming extinct (again) on Kaimere, when the Known World region will stabilize, let me however put a doubt on this.
It's extremely unlikely that the Passenger pigeon will go extinct on Kaimere, sure, either it will stabilize or even instead remain as it is (since what it behave is a key to its sucess), but given that its extinction on Earth is 100% due only to human's activity with industrial era tools, and that Kaimere is completely in a pre-industrial era (and will not be in a industrial era before a very loooooooong time, see likely never), and that kaimeran have a very low pressure on the species, the Passenger Pigeon will never go extinct again.
It sure that this species will adapt.
Because the Known Wolrd will change overtime step by step, and as such, leave enough time to every of it inhabitants to adapt as well.
I like the theme you chose for this video. I don't know if Passenger Pigeons would be introduced into my world, but the fact that I have a microbe that extends the lifespan and provides extra nutrients to every living thing they come in contact with may just help it work.
Absolutely love the tone of this video!!! I’ve had questions about conservation efforts in Kaimere before, but hearing the way you’ve envisioned it in this world make these ideas all the more real! The music is gorgeous, and this really is a mixed video of optimism and mourning (dove? hah!) for a wonderful creature we sorely regret taking from the Earth. You truly are a master of storytelling!
On an unrelated note: SIX videos about Proboscideans??? I never expected my dreams to come true, and I’m positively thrilled to see the changes you’ve made between the only currently published elephants video and now! Expect to hear from me in the comments of every single one- this will definitely be my favorite series you’ve done thus far!
Thanks again for the effort you put into Kaimere, and I’m looking forward to the future of this channel!!!
The Birds vibes but a bit more peaceful.

Keenan, thank you for you’re hard work, we all appreciate it. You’re an amazing, wonderful, incredible, and awesome person. ☺️😊😄😃🤩😍 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much!
I thought it was the dinosaurs that had a good second chance, but no it is these little birds.
But you are right no species last forever.
My BOAH!!!! Thank you for the upload!!!
Good to see these beautiful birds getting a second chance in Kaimere. While their future there is currently unpredictable it's still nice to know that they are doing well for the time being.
I like that you introduced the idea of using animals from Kaimere for rewilding. It's something that has crossed my mind a few times and I wondered if the same concept may have emerged among the Assembly naturalists. The sad part is that just like how this initiative has been put on hold in your fictional world, in order to keep Kaimere a secret, the de-extinction of the passenger pigeon in real life may also face several issues. Even if we clone the species successfully one day, their former habbit may not be in condition to support a stable population. Nevertheless I still have hope in rewilding projects in general. After all the restoration of ecosystems is something that has to be done step by step and I'm optimistic that someday eventually there might be a second chance for animals such as the passenger pigeon.
It seems that proboscids will get some major revisions in Kaimere.
Indeed! Old episode is true in that the regions of Kaimere with established nations only have Drenduga and insular dwarfs, but the episodes explore many more regions
A beautiful story + episode all in one!
Thank you!
As soon as I saw the title I started wondering if now extinct on earth species could be reintroduced however you raised some very good points in this video. Excellent food for thought.
Thank you! While there are many proponents of the initiative, there are many major setbacks
Thank you for this episode. I almost teared up..
Thank you. It was a somber one indeed
This was a great opportunity to learn about the passenger pigeon. The music and opening picture are so well done as are all the art pieces. The video has this very melancholic tone, neither happy nor sad. Would be sad to see it go extinct for a second time!
Thank you! It like a good tone to take.

Is this implying that the portal harvests from other planets and we might see some aliens?
Indeed
@@TalesofKaimere
Interesting, very... interesting
I will go into this video blind, I love the music in the background
Thank you!
SIX EPISODES? Maybe that was the original plan when it was first said but I forgot and that caught me off guard. Will the schedule still be one per week?
Do you have any animals that you know were definitely rewilded from Kaimere? I imagine it explains at least some modern cryptids.
Yup! Six episodes, one per week! Was originally going to be five but I had a sponsor want to add another into the mix.
None were enacted on a large scale, and given modern genetic studies and conservation awareness, it's not likely that the initiative will be fully enacted. Some do speculate a few may have been introduced covertly or in some unofficial experimental capacity, but nothing on the record. Also, the First Children did use Earth as a testing ground for many homunculi, so some creatures of myth do have their origins from these escaped demons too.
Beyond the elephant videos, what topics do you have planned in the future?
I have lots already sponsored, with some going all the way to halloween, but since I've already had to make some schedule adjustments I'm not going public with the exact times. Elephants will bring us to June
Great video as always! Will we hear more about the rewilding initiative?
They will be discussed in the bestiary, and possibly some stories, but for now the initiative is basically on indefinite hold for the reasons discussed here. Kaimerans are more concerned with the safety and secrecy of their world than boosting Earth's biodiversity
Fair, thanks!
No Second Chance "Lock and load rifle"
Lol
Woah woah wait a second "it's primary harvesting grounds" are there OTHER planets the magic has harvested from??
Possibly >:)
I would loose it if darwin was part of the assembly, we need sn episode anout thr assembly and the great library
Beautiful
Thank you!
Nice épisode 👍 I just have a few questions going on in my mind (since I'm a new follower of the channel, they may have already been answered): did you worldbuild new species of plants, fungi and microorganisms (except for magic)(pathogens for instance), or do you stick to the animal kingdom?
Great question! Kaimere is going to have a comparable diversity and dynamic floral ecosystem, it’s just not a subject I’m as familiar with and at this point all my episodes are on sponsored topics. If someone comes forward to fund a plant or fungus episode I would joyously dive in! I have a couple dozen plants and fungi I’ve developed on a basic level but there’s definitely more to be done
@@TalesofKaimere Nice! Thanks for answering. I'm really curious to see what you got in store and how these species may interact with their environment, fauna, peoples and their cultures, and also magic perhaps (even though we already got something like that with the Forest of Bones, it wasn't really focused on the botanical aspect of it)
2:10 Hold up! Did you just casually mention that the portal harvests some creatures from places other than Earth?! Is this hinting towards a future episode?
Possibly >:)
2:08 there are other planets it takes from?
Yes, though Earth has proven to be by far the most successful and compatible, having similar gravity, atmospheric composition, and other factors.
@@TalesofKaimere sounds cool, you should do a video of about the other planets from kaimere
2:08 - 2:13 does this mean there are portals on other planets and more importantly that there was life to harvest?
Yup! Earth was by far the most compatible but there were other attempts
Would you be open to making a video about alien life on Kaimere and their planets of origin? Are there even any aliens alive on the planet and do they integrate with life from other planets or are only able to exist in same planet ecosystems? And finally do humans have even the slightest idea that there are aliens?
What is the rewilding initiative
Glad that kaimere Is a sort of Heaven for some Animals that are extinct on earth👼🕊️
I'm guessing the Carolina parakeet had a similar story in Kaimere?
Man I’m still kinda heated that I
Could of seen one of these birds if they were still alive! They flew near where I live so come on! Great video though.
I was confused at the end. Didn't you already do elephant ,but then I remembered that was mammoth.
Yeah I did an overview of elephants in the national areas of the known world, but there are a few in the known world beyond the lands of the great nations like the forest oliphaunt and mammoth, along with a few beyond the known world
did you make thise opening sounds by waving a paper stack around or
Haha no it was a sound effect from Epidemic Sounds of a bird flapping and I just... put a bunch of them together lol
My top 5 exstinkt birds
cool video
Kaimere vs earth when
Oh boy, a new Tales of Kaimere video!
End of video:.... *depression*
Also F*** the monarchs if it weren't for them we would have ouliphuants.
Yeah... they are doing better on Kaimere than on Earth, but their stability is quite lacking.
haha yup they do set the ecological tone for the known world.
This is just... A lesson learned too late for us humans I would say...

@@TalesofKaimere Well, I'm seriously wondering for a while... Are we really going to explore Arvel and Kairul's Proboscedians? Pardon my spell, English is my third Language...
I wonder if the Kauai O'O birds from Hawaii got a second chance in Kaimere
Although many did, I don’t think Hawaii was included in any harvests
Man the kaui oo really did deserve a second chance. I mean really it’s probably the most depressing extinction I know about besides maybe the passenger pigeon and thylacine’s.
@@TalesofKaimere Could you include those birds in the harvest? They deserved better and they would be nicknamed the flutes of the forest because of their calls
That would be beautiful
@@iliacdeleon1065 I really would be beautiful
What other famous extinct animals are on Kaimere? Dodos? Greater auks? Tasmanian tigers?
Dodos were never harvested because their island wasn't within the rage of recent harvests. Tasmanian tigers were harvested but were unable to establish themselves because there's a lot of competition for that niche. The great auk hasn't being confirmed present or extinct so far, so there might be a chance for them.
@@Andrey.Ivanov Auks I believe are planned for polar waters
What kind of crazy person would imagine deextincting the passenger pigeon is remotely a good idea?
While biodiversity often is quite beneficial, this particular species is rather destructive
@@TalesofKaimere if it stayed alive how do you think we would of been able to handle it?
@@TalesofKaimere i we talking the earth passengers or kaimerean passenger pidgeons
10:26 Shit! I don't blame them!! Keep their beautiful world to themselves. Earth people would probably ruin it.
The passenger pigeon is one of the few extinct animals with a decent chance to be revived, however such an animal had massive impacts on the environment and its unknown how they would alter the ecosystem if they were reintroduced or if they could even survive. If the passenger pigeon exploded in numbers and its range expanded far beyond that which it originally lived would they be invasive? I dont think so since the the opossum, coyote, and 9 banded armadillo have all seen unprecedented range expansion largely through natural migration, the cattle egret even hopped from the old world and is now found on every continent other than Antarctica due to one migration even from Africa only last century.
The question is if people would accept the passenger pigeon, its a pigeon which isnt the most helpful thing but also the fact it could forever alter the forest in ways that many may find disturbing. When wolves were reintroduced many were concerned by some of the changes like mass killings of coyotes, but the passenger pigeon would impact a huge area, depending on how it goes it could be the most dramatic reintroduction ever and it may even get out of hand if they do better than expected.
Bird
I wish Neanderthals had a second chance too in Kaimere...
It’s a shame that these beautiful birds died out before the invention of the automobile. With them I would’ve made a right killing in car washing
Wait, was there a war between earth and kaimere? If so, yeah, it makes sense that Europe would start it lmao.
There hasn’t been war between their world and ours, though during the Bronze Age there was a good bit of interaction between them and peoples of the Mediterranean and Americas
