If there was any suspicion of steel BBs being used, play should not be resumed until it is confirmed that every single gun and every single mag is inspected.
@@Psyrus88 you'll have to use a rod for every single bb gun and look at what comes out and that's a bit annoying. But if you're gonna check guns then you can only checks the guns and skips the mags
I loved airsoft when I played it just turns into these weird cod lobby environments. You have adults puffing their chests out so 10 year olds think theyre cool, you get 10 year olds crying about getting shot too much. Then you have the 15 year old greasy kids that take pride in their knowledge of guns and scream and make meme references way too loud. Then you have insecurity driver cheaters. I just wanted to get some exercise outside by running around and shooting toy guns, but people are too fucking weird.
I'm about to get into playing because my nephew does and it actually looks like alot of fun but people are weird af or dumb af with very few in-between

There was an upstairs too so sometimes you’d think you were safe and behind cover just to get a volley of BB’s raining down from above lol

We had a similar incident here up in Canada at one of our indoor fields, a guy used steel bb's for several rounds on (thankfully) a CQB gun, when it was found out about afterwards the community looked into it, and within a few days we had figured out who the culprit was, they were then banned from all indoor and outdoor fields province wide, and most of the major fields in the next over provinces along with several of the large event organizers we're also informed and asked to take action to ensure they would not be able to attend any events they ran. Guys pretty much banned form airsoft in Canada now due to that.
Jokes on us because he'll be having the last laugh when the government bans all of us from airsoft.. 😂😭 My local field doesn't even host airsoft events anymore, it's exclusively paintball now.
I totally agree cause if you ever have a problem with them as they are playing you automatically lose unless you have a camera and that’s the main reason I run a go pro and run cam
My team organises games on a private field in Warsaw Poland. I usually chrono everybody before the game and during the game I chrono random players in cqb (it's mixed field with a old hotel and some forest). Sometimes when I want to play I play as a "covert ref". it means that I wear double bands one with my team's colors and one with ref's colors on each arm. Sometimes I don't wear ref's colors to be extra covert however it allows us to catch cheaters much easier. In Warsaw airsoft community it's quite popular to have one or two "covert refs" during game. On some fields it works better and on some they tend to be the worst cheaters during game. On our field we strive to keep the high standards so if I play as a covert ref I prefer to call hit even if I'm not sure If I got shot. Fun fact, the most common type of cheater we see is a 30 something year old rental with huge ego who just wants to shoot people and doesn't care If he's banned.
@@MasterV667 the difference there is professionalism and the purpose of the task. You are embedded with a team but you’re not necessarily on it. You’re reffing not playing and then using the ref role to your advantage.
@@sarissanhunter7227 Well, I can't say that I'm not playing and don't want my team to win, however I must not compromise refs' reputation. So I 'm much more careful with calling hits and catching cheaters. For example if I see someone I shot is cheating and not calling hits I don't do anything during the round however during the break on the off-game I tell my fellow refs to have an eye on this person. Doing that nobody can accuse me of using my position. I usually deescalate conflicts between other players, explain rules if someone is not sure about something and I act as a sort of deterrent, because all players are told there are covert refs in game.
@@thecastleairsoft i had this situation with a player / ref at a site in the UK, 3 separate times his buddies were able to use him as cover, and i was given a warning for shooting at Ref's even though 4 other players had complained about such behaviour, this behaviour continued into the afternoon where said ref decided to start honour shooting me, 3 separate times in the early afternoon game to make sure i was calling hits, after which i told him to go bother other players, about 5 min later another ref approached me informing me that i had been BANNED from the site for removing my eye pro in the middle of play, which never happened. but it was clear i was outvoted

Thier milsims are an absolute joke, and their staff is a shitshow, which is odd considering they live on the field and have nothing else to do lmao owner gives no fucks about the field. Game consistency is non existent, "tech work" claims of being able to shoot 400-500ft so i guess they found a way to break the laws of physics, but dont worry, the lead tech is a "real gunsmith", the field is somehow is worse shape building wise because no one wants to actually build anything and completely rely on players free help, oh and the store manager might try to bone your mom. North Texas needs an actual field to play at to compete with 14
It is really unfortunate to see where the field has gotten to recently. A lot changed when the previous field manager left. He did such a good job training the other admins as well as helped to put together build days and kept up a great conversations about what could be done better with the player community that attended regularly. When he left it I returned to play a few times at 878 and never had great experiences with the admins, as most of the admins that trained under him left when he did. The new admins are super slow to get started in the morning and never clearly explain the safety brief or rule set for the game modes. It is super disorganized and very sad to see a field that has been around for 6 years with such great potential get wasted. Also absolutely crazy to not have team identifiers for game play.
You are so right. We lost that bad ass admin and things went downhill. I have even helped admin occasionally but filling his shoes is a big thing. He was a superb admin and the others too that left. So that being said, some of us stepped up to help, me included, so basically things are a little in disarray. The admins now bs around too much rather than safety brief them game swiftly. I can usually get 5-6 games in as a new admin. That’s more than the rest of the new guys. None of them can keep up with it. But I hey everyone should know the rules, you signed a waiver. I’ll touch on a few things, yo over game mode then it’s game on. Short and sweet. Why can’t they do this?
Yo. I’m the new field manager now. Not the one after Shane. I open crono at 9 safety brief at 10 and by 10:15-10:30 y’all are already playing. I’ve opened new maps and am rebuilding old Alamo as well as a speedqb/gulag arena. It’s all in the works. Watch it go. The player base had been growing more and more as well. There was one point when I was at D14 and a person was using steel BBs, and full autoed my leg. The BBs ripped up my pants, fractured my shin, and cut up my lower leg skin and tissue. I did fully recover, that was several years ago and I was only about 14, so my leg is fine now but I can attest to how serious using any type of metal or steel BBs is. Its painful, ruins your day, and in my case, steals a part of my life away as my family was put into medical debt because of the damages made by the shoot. I do not respect anyone who uses those types of BBs unless used appropriately. And I do agree the Refs should have done a better job with checking the mags. They should have closed the area down and not let anyone leave, but its their field, they can do what they please.
damn really, I go to d14 as well and so far its been great, the swap meet they did recently was awesome and I was looking at all the cool guns while I sat with my funny little ak
Personally since I used to work for a field. (From a ref perspective) it should not matter if you have friends come to the field and you know them well. In a situation like this, EVERY PLAYER should be having their pew checked and chronod for the day and should have some form of tag proving that they have been checked to prevent this from happening. It does seem like that field is heavily lacking in that area if players are sneaking in pew's that can cause serious harm to another.
You hold your friends and regulars at a higher standard. And treat them like everyone else on those situations. They still have to crono and follow the rules to the T. Or imma get dead in that ass for ya doing wrong and being a bad example.

You give the wrongdoer the chance and opportunity to hide the evidence or dispose of it. He could have just quietly started pulling people aside to investigate and not alarmed everyone of what he was doing. Also last thing I wanna say is this looks like something that's supposed to just be fun. Why are some people cheating or taking it too seriously? What is there to gain? You don't win a trophy or money, like literally the only reason someone would do this is for enjoyment so I'm baffled as to why some of them are acting like they're competing in an airsoft league or something.
Im only recently getting curious about airsoft, but if it isn't already a thing I feel like fields need to do weekly 21 and up matches only. Not that there aren't plenty of adult babies out there as well. But I feel like that first ref probably isn't even 18

Good on those refs that stopped the game to investigate the steel BB issue ...I'm a field owner and I found a steel BB during a night event last summer and just about blew a gasket. I halted 250 players and made everyone show mags. I made it clear that if some one had them (steel BB's) they might as well leave now before I find them....I never did find steel BB's in anyone's load-outs and we figured more than likely it was a ball bearing from a different piece of equipment....I rather be safe than sorry and have one of my players seriously injured. Many of the players actually thanked me for caring enough to do that ( I was heated ) even though it was more than likely a false alarm...The name of the game is to have a good time and not seriously hurt other people. A little mark from getting hit with a BB is to be expected, but we all know the score with regular game play......On a side note, if you ever get out to Northern Cali come to All Patriot Airsoft and I will treat you right. ......Side note #2....878 needs to invest $19 a case for flag tape, It helps identify each team, comes in a verity of colors and is easy to tie to a players arm or gear

I've seen aluminum BB's at an airsoft store before, and I felt the weight of the bottle (it was only the size of a small soda can) and it weighed more than a full soda can. I also bought a bottle of .40 ceramic BB's at the same store that day because I had bought a 500 fps Snow Wolf DSR50 from that store the same day. I would NEVER use those ceramic BB's at any field. Regardless if they were allowed or not. I've been shot in the adams apple by a 350 fps polarstar by a member of the BEAN (Boston Elite Airsoft Nation) and I was bleeding for about 15 minutes. But I pressed on. Anyone who plays airsoft with the intent to hurt someone, should be banned. Airsoft is a sport, and while the entire basis of the game is to shoot others, it CAN NOT be played correctly and SAFELY if people don't follow rules, and RESPECT the other people on the field. I don’t think you have all the information bud. That comment is pretty uneducated. You don’t know their situations. Do you? If so then by all means explain….
Big question here, what is the difference between a .92gram 6mm Steel BB at 1 joule of energy vs a .20 gram plastic bb at 1 joule of energy? What difference does it make if you get hit with that .92g Steel bb at 10ft vs the .20 gram plastic bb at 10ft? The formula is Mass x Velocity=Joule. The main difference between the light and heavy BB's at that joule is the energy retained at distance. The .92g Steel BB will retain its energy for a much longer and in theory travel further but, at the cost of velocity(FPS). Example: My P* M4 shoots .45g bb's 85yards at 1.5joules while it struggles to hit 70yrds with .32g bb's at the same joule. That's why I use .45g bb's for milsim to get that extra edge and still have a 0MED. They hit harder at range due to retained energy, cut through trees better and better wind resistance. People tend to call their hits better if they can feel and even hear the hit on their gear.....MAYBE..... I understand that the Steel is more dense and is less prone to deformation upon contacting a surface but, I would imagine it all depends on the surface. I'm going to do an experiment on eye pro, gear, clothing and even human skin. The control will be a polarstar m4 that will shoot a .45g bb at 1.5joules then tuned to shoot the .92gram steel bearing at 1.5joules. I'll even use the steel at 1 joule out of a Bingo Mp7 just to for further testing. The only way I can honestly see clothing getting shot through is if someones gun was HPA and shooting extremely hot. I would say any AEG out there on the market would struggle to even get a .92g steel bb to 1 joule. There just isn't enough air volume. I'll test that theory as well with some of my high end AEG builds. I'm not doing this or saying this to get steel BB's on the field but, would much rather get to the truth of a matter rather than conjecture and hearsay. I'll be sure to upload the results. I'm really curious to see how much energy it will take via a steel bb to get it to go through clothing.
I see what ur saying and lmk what happens but many people believe that these people were shooting steel bbs with the same power as a normal airsoft rifle which I don’t believe the case I think these people were using the co2 powered steel BB gun that shoot 550fps or more which you can buy in many different platforms but again this is a theory but lmk how the experiment goes

Back when I played, electric guns first came out. We had so much fun playing out in the middle of nowhere. Before GoPro even excisted. Man, those were the times.
When I was younger, all we played with were steel BBs. We limited ourselves to daisy red rider level power and below, if CO2, only pistols, and if pump 3 pumps max, no pellets, no head shots. We all wore eye protection and multiple layers of camo; I shot a daisy buck lever action, so much fun..... night time was amazing! This was in the mid to late 90's. Too many people are way too concerned to play like that today, but it was fun and no one got seriously hurt. Getting shot was comparable to paintball. Don't try it with any high powered BB guns of today though....
Skirmish games should always be split up with tape or armbands. I hate at my fields when I can't tell who's who because it's split up green and tan and half the people have tan bottoms with green tops or vice versa.
ive been hit in the shin with .45s from a hpa m4 and it gave me a new kind of blood blister, ive never seen before lol. the admins knew too. i think it should be at most .32s if you have 0ft MED
Yeah I was there that day (tall dude with the robe) that was such a one off thing. The refs are literally the best, but when you used projectiles that could be lethal on a field, I mean what do you expect? This is so not traditional 878. I’m sorry that day sucked. It was weird and the people left before they could be caught. Just give it another chance and if you have another bad experience then there ya go
@@blackcatgats can be if you get hit in the wrong spot and the person is running hot. Major blood vessels can kill quickly, Punch a neat hole in your jugular about 6mm and get back to me with how long it took you to lose consciousness.
@@blackcatgats It all comes down to the mass. The heavier they are, even travelling at the same speed, the more damage they do. While they do check muzzle velocity, changing the type of projectile will still change how hard they hit. So many airsoft guys rig their guns to cheat it's hilarious anyway.
@@blackcatgats yes. It can be. I have a buddy with an hpa setup custom built by him that can put a 7.62 projectile through a cinder block….. think again. Hpa can absolutely be lethal. He built it because he’s not allowed firearms.
@whitey powers people usually up the internals of the gun so it increases the velocity to offset the heavier steel bb. It's not like people are taking a gun that fires airsoft bbs at 400 fps and firing steel BBs out of it at sub 200 fps. They customize the internals so the steel bb is firing out at 400 fps aswell, which if you began firing airsoft bbs out of it would increase the velocity to 550-600 fps
Exactly what I was thinking for now on I’m just gonna keep playing till a ref says other wise cause at that part after I took care of them I would have been behind the whole enemy team
We did a lot of testing back when ceramic bb's started getting popular. As long as you're within field limits, there isn't much of a difference between getting hit with steel, ceramic, plastic. Ceramic is by far the hardest of the 3, and they are also usually white (we used .66g ceramic zirconia grade 6 bearing balls). The metal were roughly the same weight, but not nearly as hard as the ceramic. Conclusion of testing was that neither metal, ceramic, nor plastic could break through cheapo shooting glasses at point blank range with an HPA bolt rifle shooting 650ish FPS with .25's (it was the highest speed we could attain with that setup.) All in all, while I wouldn't advise anyone to use steel (or especially ceramics), as long as the gun is within field limits there isn't a ton to be worried about. Even if you consider joule creep of HPA engines, if you have proper eye protection you have nothing at all to be worried about. Final double disclaimer, just don't use metal or ceramics. Not worth it if someone catches you and has a fit, and then you're likely banned from the field for a time.
I can't imagine going to an airsoft place without dealing with asshole refs. Seems like the place GameStop employees go after their stores shut down for good.
This is why you don't skimp on eyewear. Make sure to get something that can take a heavy hit from some idiot using "illegal" ammo / power. Good example would be Revision Sawfly being able to take 12G birdshot, and cheapo Chinese stuff potentially cracking after 1 or 2 BBs.
I'm 54 years old and we used to have fights with brothers and family members with little Red Rider Daisy guns. The reason we chose those was you couldn't cheat and pump it up to a higher pressure. (one pump dump) Sure we dug BB's out of flesh, sometimes a week later with a pocket knife. They'd pop out with rust on them and bounce around the sink, so we would plug the drain and keep it like a trophy. Times sure have changed.
There was a Person that used Steel bb's at a outdoor field not to far from me. Well, Since a Few People Did get Hit and Refs Did issue warnings and it did Help again. Police Were Called, Everyone had to Wait until Cameras and Gear were Fully Checked Out. Well, the Person was Arrested for Multiple Assault and is serving 4 years in Jail Due to it. Now the Outdoor Field has Changed how it works. Where, the Gear needs to be Fully Checked Out First Including the BBs before going out on the field. They also now Hired Officer Duty Officer's for Security Work and to Explain What would Happen if someone Brings in Metal BBs.
This happened at the airsoft field I work at a couple years ago where some of our players were getting struck with steel bbs, and we had to stop the game twice to confront everybody and nobody would Fess up, and we threatened to call the police if we caught whoever was doing it if they continued, and sure enough the very next game players were getting hit with steel BBs again. We ended up threatening everybody we were going to shut things down for the day if the person didn't either fess up or stop using a real BB gun. We didn't have any incident after that luckily.
I was hit with something that felt like a metal bb one time. Hit me damn near in the temple. Night game, dude was running a hot hpa shooting under his med, caught me walking by, headshot. Rang my skull like a bell, literally. I think if it hit that soft spot the outcome could've been real bad .
I have had similar happen to me. Night game. Hpa lmg heavy ass bbs. My dead light on hands raised he pops up and full autos me point blank. It was almost a fight I was about to wreck that dude. Luckily his buddies saved him. He didn’t know I’m the field manager. BANNED

We actually have magnets for the heavy bbs because some manufacturers use ferrous metal to make them heavier. That also makes them magnetic. Easy to find that way. 😉

Regardless if they were allowed or not. I've been shot in the adams apple by a 350 fps polarstar by a member of the BEAN (Boston Elite Airsoft Nation) and I was bleeding for about 15 minutes. Growing up that’s all we did is shoot each other with metal pellets and shot. How do you think they got the idea for airsoft?
@@thecastleairsoft yeah, 550fps on a.177 bb is no bueno. That is more probable. I ordered the steel beads from Amazon and I'm ready to test it out. Gonna have my brother in law help out. I will probably drop the video after bonestrike.

@@thecastleairsoft yeah, that was the first one I actually missed. I think the camo rules need to be revamped. Having mix of different color plain clothing on either team makes things so confusing. @Whitey Powers basic physics 👍
@Whitey Powers thats my point? I never said you would be able to tell a difference.🙄
It shudnt matter friendly fire or not you take the hit and u go back to respawn
