Adachi literally personifies this old Ethiopian proverb
"The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth."
Very true, just like Shido, Owada, Konoe-kun, Akechi, and last but not least, Adachi.
But Adachi wasn't embraced by the village.
He’s pretty much right about everything based on his experience

@@Benjamin-ml7sv Dude, it's a figure of speech.
“All I did was put people in here. It’s the world that really kills them, isn’t it?”
But all I did was pull the trigger. It was the bullet that really killed them.
I believe it’s more of, I pushed them into traffic but it was the person who hit them is to blame.
It’s still stupid reasoning on Adachi’s side.
But I think he had a point. If we pretend that all of the victims were killed by their own shadow, it's the victim's own personal failure that kills them. Their own secrets that they do not count as themselves.
I'm not saying Adachi was right to do what he did, I'm just saying he's technically telling the truth.
@@handleshnarda yeah but what led to them being confronted and killed by their own self?
@@datenshidt2412 I see your point, but I remain unconvinced it was a murder. Because you have a very a good chance of not dying if you're in a similar situation. I relate it to somebody tripping you, you can die in that fall, or just be injured.
Then again, there is the whole "starvation" thing, which I guess could be taken care of by the way of the hollow forest (the game had water in it and I think it can also have food.)

I don't say this to sound nitpicky, but if we're all being honest: There was never really a "Shadow Adachi". It's just Adachi. He has fully accepted his true self, there wasn't anything to really deny. I think it was just the unique power in the way he harnesses his Persona but there's nothing for Adachi to deny about himself. He has conviction in his actions and feelings.
TheChildofAuraReborn He didn’t have to accept his true self, the game explains how he and Namatame were able to get their power to enter the TV in the true ending
TheChildofAuraReborn Yeah. The game never calls him Shadow Adachi. It's just Adachi.

They have the same voice actor. The Jester Arcana is an alternate version of the Fool Arcana. Magatsu Izanagi is Izanagi covered in the filth that got all over him in Yomotsu Harasaka. After a cleansing ritual in the river Woto, the filth (Yomi) washed off and transformed into Haraedo-no-Okami. He could cleave society in half with his edginess
To me Adachi is the dark reflection of blaming his problems and pain on others than realizing his flaws and mistakes as he thinks everyone is at him despite the fact his Boss got fed up with his screw ups and the people he killed got creeped out by his sick behaviour
So Adachi has his gun drawn and points it at the others, but never uses it? They should have given him a gun attack like Takaya. He says that he joined the force just to have a gun, so it makes sense that he would use it during this confrontation.
It's hinted at in the anime that he hasn't got the stomach to actually use it. Kinda like how he throws up at the crime scenes of which he's actually committed. He can totally indirectly kill, but like with everything else, when it comes down to actually doing something, Adachi recoils in disgust and rejects it. Then again, when he does basic attacks, I'm pretty sure he uses it.

To me, the most disturbing part about the dialogue with Adachi before his fight is how for the first 90%, the portraits he uses are the normal ones he uses in regular conversations across the game.
Because to him, wishing for the normal world to cease existing is as normal as an everyday conversation.
It's also partially an oversight. Limitations of assets... Something mostly fixed with Mr. Pancakes.
I like how he threatens to kill you while holding a revolver throughout the entire fight ... which he never uses.
I mean, if Persona 3 taught us anything, it's that Persona users aren't really that bulletproof.

I felt pity for Adachi so I stayed for the fight defending and all a little longer until he finally used his damn revolver. 😭
Then naoto should one hit him
Shinji died in the real world it wasn’t the dark hour when he passed
Adachi may be right in some ways about how life is easier for the talented. He is right in saying that but the end doesn’t justify the means here. Adachi is one of those characters that makes you think about the finest details in a story and presents an argument that is, in many ways, correct. Whenever an antagonist makes you question your outlook on the story or even the world itself you know they are a good antagonist and adachi is a prefect example of this.
You know, the scariest thing about Adachi as a villain is that he was actually right to some extent. It would be easier if we could live in our own fantasy worlds and not have to face reality. It also makes sense about how he talks about how more people are blessed with talent than others, and how sometimes things happen in your life that you can't control. These traits are what makes him a very well written antagonist in my eyes. However I don't think that destroying all of humanity along with our world would be an effective way to deal with it though! 😅
6:28 absolutely!
Lies and illusion are always easier than facing real life. Easier doesn't make it right or healthy.
Adachi speaks like a sociopath who has a major case of narcissism and confirmation bias, when you actually look into what he’s saying it’s just bullshit to justify his actions to himself. Talent didn’t make adachi’s life worse than someone else’s, him being a trash person that thinks as other people as beneath him made his life worse. I think because of that he’s a very well written villain, because people like him do have a way of making people feel like they do have a point even when they don’t. It’s twisting logic to fit an extreme
Why can I imagine this is how adachi got his persona
His shadow: your a complete an utter waste of space and the world would be better whith out you. You like to stay away from others because your afraid to atully have friends so you spend most of your time sitting alone contemplating how boring every thing is and if you eff up once it game over
Adachi: true dat
That's probable, but i like to think it went more like this:
Gas station worker: hey
Adachi: what
Gas station worker: wanna see something cool?
Adachi:........
Adachi: Yeah.Why not
(Adachi grabs the gas station worker's hand)
* insert a red light and adachi's screams *
Adachi: aight bet
Adachi just wants to live a quiet life as a shadow

The funny thing about all this is that Adachi wasnt wrong. Those with talent live such easier lives. This battle even proves it.
Azura Raijin That doesn't mean that the other 99% have to live in misery and it doesn't justify the murders
Still doesn't change the fact that he's a whiny-ass pussy who bitched out and gave up on trying in life because things didn't go his way, declares that women who don't let him indulge in his creepy perversions on them are all gold-digging whores, and murdered people and then started this whole fiasco with Namatame because he was bored. Azura Raijin of course but there's something called hard work too ya know?
Doesn't justify murder or attempted rape tho. His whole character is meant to represent antisocial sociopaths.
Azura Raijin He's probably right but I ain't giving up just because life is unfair and I dont have talent and all that stuff!
Our heroes found many things with meaning and value out in the "boonies" by accepting themselves and reaching out to each other.

"Living is too painful for you, but you don't want to die...of course no one would understand! Because it makes no sense!"
Actually, it does. The natural instinct of a human is to live, so naturally they'd be afraid of death. All those cases of people committing suicide is not only because of a distortive chemical reaction in their brain that leads them to doing so, but because their desire to die, at that point, blocked out their instinctive will to live. I mean there's a specific case of someone who tried to commit and half way from meeting with the ground, they began regretting their decision (They lived and told the story)...so it's not that far-fetched to be tired of living, but not want to die.
Actually, while watching this scene again, something struck me. The Investigation Team scores very few rational or sensible points in the argument, IMHO. There should be much more reasonable retorts to Adachi's spiel. Can't blame the IT for being quite irritated at this point though.

They are just kids at the end of the day. While Adachi's view is definitely flawed, the IT don't have the learned experience to really address anything a grown man has to say.
I just realised that Adachi summons his Persona in a very similar way to Takaya from Persona 3
Takaya and the rest of Strega were forced to summon their Personas by the Kirijo Group at the cost of their life and health. It’s also said that it’s extremely difficult for them to handle their powers without some sort of suppressant. I think what happened to Adachi is similar to that. Adachi became backed into a corner, and his inner self was forced to come out to use its power in defense. Even just summoning his Persona probably took a huge toll on his body, which makes it look like he’s writhing in agony, like Takaya.
@@sylvex7 He could also be summoning it from stress like in Persona 2’s. In persona 2 personas are summoned and awakened to from heavy stress. This takes place in the same universe as Eternal Punishment and the previous method doesn’t disappear after the events of the respective game. The SEES members are shown using evokers in P4A/AU and Naoto can still use her persona using the tarot card in her spinoff manga taking place in the same year as P5.

Persona 4 is a heroes game. But, in my opinion, Adachi is totally correct, it still doesn't excuse the things he's done. In the end, the reality of the real world is harsh and it'll kick your ass. Little Adachi's are born from it.
Basically, Adachi is pessimistic, unlike Narukami
I agree. Even though I didn't study Adachi's character really well
Yeah but he shut his self off from the world and decided to kill people, and torment them for a game. I don't care what his message is, he lost ALL credibility when he decided to take the lives of others because he couldn't "score" with them. He's just another no good criminal who didn't take his own path and find out what his "true" talent was. I have no sympathy for his pathetic attempt explaining his stupid bull shit.
@@_VXI I can see where you're coming from. Of course, nothing excuses his murders but you still have to at least look at it from his view. He spent his entire life studying and trying to be the best only for those who had "talent" to overshadow him (P4G shows younger, more talented people getting promoted while Adach is in the background unnoticed). Not only that but he even gets the shaft by being forced to move to the small town because he (can't confirm if he's lying or not) apparently goofed something that wasn't even his fault. Then he not only get his Persona but is also influenced by Ameno Saigir (while he DID influence Adachi's by being sem-possessed by him, Adachi still could have chosen not to murder) All that together I can empathize with Adachi but he's still in the wrong.
@@superbeaner4428 I think the base problem is that society is impatient that it indirectly requires great successes from point one giving greater value to youth rather than experience of old age. All expectations are cluttered to one phase of life, youth, where one is expected to make friends, study, stay healthy, basically ace in everything rather than take one step at time. If they have not reached the goal in certain phase it is considered game over. No use to make friends, study to subject or train because they didn't as young. Instead of trying to fulfill their path on later age where some might actually have better mental tools to build up skills and handle life.

You know what I find interesting about how adachi summons his persona? Its the fact that he literally holds his head and screams in pain it proves that it still hurts to look at yourself and reject every part of it
I think the reason Adachi experiences a lot of pain in this fight is because he's possessed by Ameno-Sagiri. His eyes are also glowing yellow, and the fire around him when he summons his Persona is red rather than blue, both of which are traits associated with Shadows and losing control of yourself/your Persona.

Even though I don’t really like the word itself due to it’s mystical connotations the word “destiny” is pretty accurate.
Noone ever chooses anything, everyone just follows the only path that, as they think, benefits them most.
If a human being was at least capable to choose when, where, how to get born then there would’ve been an argument for control over one’s life.

@@jukosepticeye625 Eh. So? Its a big bad guy to defeat, rather than an interesting dichotomy between morals. Plus Yaldabaoth was a cooler fight than Izanami imo. Plus, as I said, I was interested and looked into this as it was a much better twist than the big god boss fight at the end.
Reachlol1 meh still PERSONA 5 ALL THE WAY!!
@@jukosepticeye625 yeah... okay...
@@reachlol1 I personally found P5 to be more relevant though all of the persona titles are amazing on their own.
I couldn't care less fighting a god because its not the point anyways and it was kind of boring too unlike the kid says here. However, the way the story connects and its concepts, mementos was portrayed extremely well. And if you think about it, it just feels more universal and makes you see the "bigger picture" a lot more (most especially in its conclusion.)

Rise denies what Adachi says about talent impacting your lifestyle. Pretty fucking rich to hear from the pop sensation herself
3:23 That's not very growth mindset of you Adachi
neither is theirs they are basically acting as fi real life was an anime where nothing unfair or bad can happen so long as you keep working and for some reason you are forced to keep working and trying to bond with people who are clearly hypocritical and apathetical towards you, to someone whiteout bonds or stacks on this world who has had nothing but unfairness that sound like a patronizing smug mocking sneer and it perfectly reasonable to have his reaction
The reason why i lost? It’s because i had no talent whatsoever.
I like the part when adachi said "it's adaching time" and adachied all over the investigation team
My favorite thing about the fight with Adachi is that he summons his persona by saying “Damn”, “Dumbass” or just laughing
33:32
The ultimate “No u”
Adachi may sound like he has a point, but... He really doesn't.
What defines success is subjective as it changes from person to person, it's true there's people who are born talented and get there faster, but that doesn't mean everyone else is a failure, everyone achieves success in their own way, the only true failures are those who give up at the end or refuse to develop their own talents like he did.
He himself admits he only became a cop cuz he wanted to legally carry a gun, him being assigned to the small town of Inaba was also his own doing, he can whine all he wants that it was "one mistake", it had to be something bad enough for him to be sent away to where he wouldn't be much of a hindrance, even in his stint as a cop in Inaba, instead of actually learning from Dojima's teachings and kindness, he decided to just murder two women and manipulate the grieving lover of one of the first victim to go on a kidnapping spree hoping more deaths would ensue...
In life you will notice the majority of people who embrace nihilism, are those who don't even want to bother getting out of the sad state of mind they put themselves in to begin with, they'd rather whine that the world dealt them a bad hand and declare themselves victims to avoid accepting responsability for their own life and actions.
I don't know how you did it, but your take on Adachi made the most sense out of all these edgelords.
Deserves more likes
Adachi is just overblowing things.
It's always easier to put blame in other things and living in denial rather than facing it because running is always easier. That is why Persona series focuses on the theme of "embracing one's heart and overcome hardships". If you don't look within yourself and find your own strength, then there is no rights to speak of talents.
It is sad but in reality most people like to play the victims, much like Adachi here. Only the strong willed is successful, be it talent or not, these people fight righteously for good things in life, so Adachi points are really just lame excuses honestly.
He does have a point, but only his words....not Adachi himself.
I remember those days when people hated Adachi for being cartoonishly evil. Only after recently that people begin to understand him, and perhaps even relating to him more than Yu.
Adachi wasn't cartoonishly evil, he was being possessed and his desire to kill and do evil were being amplified, exaggerated. If he wasn't possessed, it's unlikely he ever would've done anything.
Persona 4 be like "this isn't even my final boss"
"I'm 14 and this is deep".
Sure beats the shit out of Persona 5. Good god.
@Source90000 And I never take anyone seriously when people say that Persona 4 is darker and has a better story than the last 3 Persona games.
Source90000 persona 5 had an abusive teacher who sexually assaulted his students, broke their appendages and abused his power in the school. An art teacher that used all of his pupils for their art, not allowing them to have careers driving them to suicide. A politician who used his son to commit murders and then abandoned him. There’s more but you get the point. It definitely darker than just straight up murder. Adachi’s real motivates arent even explained well, but they are justified
@Source90000 Persona 4 is the lightest in the franchise, though (not including P1 here because I've never fully played it, but including all games from P2IS/P2EP and after)
@@clivelowell4273 Agree with everything except the last part
7:32 is when the battle with Adachi starts
Adachi truly lives in a society...
This fight lasts three minutes if you have yoshitsune (with good strength, power charge and you use hassou tobi) and Chie with god hand and power charge
Most people here in the comments seems to be forgetting the fact that Yu (literally, you) is talentless at the start of the game. Yu worked his way through to this finale.
The key to complete this game is to work smart, not hard, and try to relate to people and your surroundings. Try apply that in real life no matter how awkward things are.
Even the talented in the Investigation Team like Naoto, the child genius, and Kanji, his mastery in handicraft skill, are being troubled by their own talents. If it weren't for their efforts to face themselves, they're probably are going to carry those problems for the rest of their lives and become the next Adachi.
On the contrary, Adachi himself is actually talented. Which is the reason why he is being ostracized by his peers before coming to Inaba. You all know this story better than me. But he is so stubborn for his belief that he is too late and too old to change his worldview.
Even Namatame is a better person than Adachi will ever be if Adachi himself doesn't change his worldview. You all watched the Golden Ending, so you what I'm talking about Namatame. It's not impossible to change people's stigma. I rest my case.
Shit, that's way too many grammatical mistakes. Guess I'm being too emotional while typing all that 🤣 english is not my first language. Hopefully my point gets across !
@@messmass2573 your fine actually with all u said and i agree completely. Plenty say yes it does not excuse the action what did but he is right about things as mentioned the example of Persona 5. However talents does not always mean success because those who have that can stray off the path. One thing too is that when Adachi was defeat, Dojima had requested the ambulance which Adachi was taken a back about it. He failed to realize the bond he had and much more. Meaning he didn't truly face the problems he had all the way
Fortunately, getting his ass kicked did kind of help Adachi.
Anyone else realize that for all major story events all Naoto really does is summarize what's going on?
3:35 Adachi is just the grown up version of Hajime who lost to Junko and became Izuru again
Johnny young bosch voiced many different characters
Adachi is just like Nobita as talented person's life with no experience what they want has a happy life due to their lifestyle was forbidden by their strict family press him to study(even though success but create a negative consequence for his future to others as talented wasted). Imagine this is how Nobita's life turns to the worse in future by hurting people badly include those who ruin his life miserably and his family relative who make his life difficult in unhappy in my judgement for his behaviour and constant experience of his childhood memory. I understand his breakdown and upsetting feeling.

It’s appropriate to use Yosuke here because he killed the girl he was in love with
Saki literally hated his guts

Rise, how the heck do you think he got in here in the first place?
Been thrown into the TV by Namatame
Yu had the TV world pushing power before awakening to a Persona
Rise probably thought it was similar and he just has the "push people into TVs" ability since the Investigation Team's assumption from previous experiences (Mitsuo and Namatame) was someone in a deranged state of mind like Adachi couldn't possibly be able to accept their Shadow's inner truth, nor have nothing much to hide/surpress
Yu and Adachi are just like two sides of same coin
Both have Izanagi, voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch and their arcana is number 0
Yosuke is voiced by the same guy as Sasuke
They both awaken to a Susanoo.
That is more than just a coincidence
Adachi is either insane or very funny and smart at the same time
A young girl is in critical condition and you're laughing. You're laughing!
