Because the value of g depends upon the attractive force of earth also called gravitational force of earth which attracts the bodies towards itself,as we know that the distance between the centre of earth and the other body is inversely proportional to the gravitational force,the value of "g" decreases,it constantly decreases little by little as higher and higher away we go from earth.
