OK, I'm not a mother. However, surprisingly, I was a little son once. This really resonated with me, such a terrific thought, so well expressed, so well performed. Thanks Penny for a fabulous request, and thanks Don for another A1 reaction!

I can't through the first minute of this song without a lump forming in my throat. I've always loved this one.

I remember Melba, singing with George Jones, when I was a kid back in the late 60's+early 70's, I noticed you were surprised how quick the song ended back in those days song's were most of the time limited to 3min. Or just over because of play for radio station, that has changed through the years

Thanks Penny for the great request. I haven't heard Melba since the 80's, when I played her at the station. The song really makes you stop and realize how much our mom's do and sacrifice for us

I loved this song! What a great request, Penny - thank you! I went through this when my son was 7-12 yrs old. It taught him responsibility, work ethic and just plain respect for me. I worked 50+ hours a week and spent my free hours doing things with him rather than cozying up with a book to escape the grind for a few hours. He didn't appreciate it when he did a half-a## job and I docked his allowance accordingly...🙂 He appreciates it now and has a great work ethic! I've tried to kick him out the house for about the last 14 years but he refuses to move out. He say's "You took care of and loved me for 20 yrs, so now it's my turn." I have several disabilities and he knows some things are beyond my capabilities, so he works hard and takes care of me now...no charge. Thanks again, Penny and Don for a great reaction/thoughts and for the respect you show the ladies! I'm all for doing things for myself as I've always believed I should (especially when I could) in doing things myself, but I sure appreciate it when anyone holds a door for me. Both of us do things for others, especially for elderly folks (even though I am one!) It's a sign of respect, kindness and consideration. And it should be an instinct - not even a thought. Again, thanks for a great song/reaction!

@JLGWW2022 That just shows you - you are a good mother and taught them well. Those qualities are something to be proud of and if you don't mind my saying so, from reading some of your comments, you did a great job despite what you were going through during some difficult, tough times in your life! You are a beautiful lady!

My father didn't believe in allowances, but at the same time, if we needed money for something and there was money to spare, we got it. I'm older than you and have 3 older brothers and as for chores, it was I could take the trash out as well as they could and they could wash dishes, probably better than I could. We didn't have 'boy chores' or 'girl chores', being the only girl, it wouldn't have been fair. PS: my brothers did start earning their own money with paper routes at about 12 years old.

Written by the great Harlan Howard. Melba had some success in the 60s and 70s. She definitely could. Just listen to how she talks

@Edward Phillips how about this. My mom is long since passed. We talked about all this when she was still here. Mostly we laughed but if you knew my mom, you would understand my comment.
