I've never seen such a placid expression on guitarist's face, while absolutely tearing up, with this level of passion and emotion behind their playing. It's so unusual.
This is the Derek Trucks I love. I remember seeing him at the stone pony in NJ with only 200 maybe 250 people there it was great times, He is a great guy always stopped and talked with the people. Now that he is getting bigger its hard to get close to say hello. Still got mad love for the guy and his music!!!
This sounds like everything great about the three kings of electric guitar (at least in my mind.) That run at 2:40 sounds like Duane was playing through his fingers. I've never heard anything like that before Duane, and I don't think anything comes close to Duane's signature slide. It's Duane's slide (which is a signature and level unto itself), the clean technicality, prowess and precision of Carlos and the raw energy, mastery/otherworldly tones of Jimi, all combined into one player. And he makes it sing like B.B.! I'm blown away by everything I hear. It's this type of playing, and level of musicianship that is the exact reason why I would never dare call myself a guitarist. Good lord this guy is amazing, there really aren't enough superlatives, to describe this type of playing. Wow. I'm sure they'd all be proud.
Derecks playing is truly " out of this world". Phrasing etc. perfect. Finally nails the crazy idea that you have to play 1000 notes p.m. to be any good I`m not knocking shredding in the right track, but it`s not essential.
I’ll never say someone is the “best” because that’s just opinion. But Derek, to me, is the best blues guitarist, and certainly without a shadow of a doubt the best slide player. Plays with such a humble presence. For no one but himself and his love and passion for what he’s doing. No ego whatsoever. Such an incredible musician
Thanks for posting this video! Great sound quality. This vid really brings back great memories of first discovering the dTb back in 1997. I bought the first album before I ever even heard his music. One listen to that first album, and I was blown away. One live show, and I was hooked for life. Been seeing him live every year since! Always loved this D minor blues from the 1st album!
You are welcome to use my audio from this show. As great as this sounds, what I have up on TH-cam sounds even better. Check out the equipment I mention in my comments there. I gave Derek a copy of my audio at the Birchmere a couple years later. I got invited in for that soundcheck and sat with Susan and their newborn. A wonderful time!
I agree with dragonfire. I much prefer DTB to TTB. The album songlines is killer. Susan is a very talented singer but for some reason she bugs me. And I also feel they were bluesier with mike. To each their own I guess though
Songlines wasn't my favorite but I agree. I saw every single performance DTB did in the S.F. bay area. A tiny club called the last day saloon with maybe 50 people in the audience. For me Soul Serenade is a masterpiece.
That' s his WIFE, and uhh They WON a Grammy Award, so I think your opinion counts for shit! Susan is one of the best woman singers out there today...Don't like it, don't listen! Derek is my nephew, so I could seriously care less if you don't like Susan, but you will not slam her in public.. Like to see you sing better?
Yeah....my statement on another thread isn't as much criticizing what he does as it is a criticism of comparing him to the great guitarists. For one thing, this isn't a minor blues. It's just playing blues licks over a D chord. I'm really not trying to put him down at all and if you love what he does, great. I like what he does in that medium...blues licks over no changes. I applaud that. He evokes emotion and that's a good thing. I'm just saying trying to call him a god of the guitar is just inaccurate.
What do you do so special rich walker? this guy has more soul and gracious phrasing with a slide than you will ever be able to achieve let alone appreciate
Perhaps the only blues guitarist that never made guitar faces while playing. And oh boy does he play phenomenally.
I've never seen such a placid expression on guitarist's face, while absolutely tearing up, with this level of passion and emotion behind their playing. It's so unusual.
@@Jonjzi every ounce of emotion he has is all in his hands
SOUL will always compliment SOUL no matter where you from and it really shows
He’s about 20 years old here, maybe 21. Amazing.
He's so masterful at building a climax to his solo

I know of Noone that can play like that...incredible 👍

Goosebumps all over XL body so good !

divine, absolutely divine___

Jake Sill , You really describe Derek perfectly, so humble, but so good. Live Long & Rock On... by the way I am 70 and still listen to great music...
Awesome player... One of THE best slide players in the world for sure...
Derek Trucks is a Badass.
Baddest in the land
Masterpiece.
somehow the talking in the background fits into the song perfectly.

I love the Dereck's slide!
Sure feels like his roots are Jazz but baked in the Blues. No more emotive musician on the planet today.
wow its so good
Astounding technique.
I know exactly what you mean, except he's got the slide going instead of all the crazy bends.
Dm then switch to Bm around 3:25

I wish he would play rams head now, or I knew of him when I was 11
The name of the song on Derek's actual album is "D Minor Blues."
@dagoninfinite thats about what I expected from you....real intelligent reply there...

Making it sing.
Too few views on this one, maybe because it hasn't a proper title?! This is a crazy jam.
Do you have any more videos from this show? I'd love to see them!
Great playing as usual -yes, it's 'Beckish', but it's awesome Dorian Blues w/ modulations.
Totally agree- very Beckish, but still so good
sorry, 2nd comment. I think this is in A minor, not D minor, having just tried to play alongside it. Anybody else tried this ?
Me too!!! So I am a little confused that most notes are on A minor...but ...the Title is D minor....
You are right, the tonal center is A. It is not really a blues form, either. Maybe @Posterity TV could change the title?

AZRacer2000 was he dating Susan here ? Love Tedeschi Trucks band !!
And what a nephew he must be, you should be proud. Subscribe plz, new stuff coming soon.
haha
I really miss this band. The new thing with Susan just doesn't do it for me.
Tell me about it
joedod79, Yes I agree but I still listen to TTB not that bad Live Long & Rock On...
Yo who's that bass player!?
Todd Smallie
Probably D dorian, which is of A minor, but D is the root.
That backfired. No such thing here. Bye.
I agree...someone critiquing Derek Trucks! LMAO...are u F---king kidding me?
huge Jeff Beck influence going on there but still nicely done.

Sounds like someone is jealous.....like you can play better.....
