At about 5:10 Derek snaps a string and keeps playing. Then he motions to Gabe to take over and gets a new string from one of the crew. Then he sits there and puts the new string on and tunes it himself. No guitar tech. No backup guitar. Then comes back and scorches another solo.

@@greenman7612 this band is Extraordinarily talented, as were the original band. It's just not possible to compare. Allmans were a 6 piece, TTB is 12 piece. Totally different instrumentation. They are both easily in my personal top 5 bands.

This song always makes me cry.....maybe I think of my Dad when I hear it when he introduced the Allman Bro's to me when I was 10 years old. 34 years later, I still cherish this song more than all of them, as the composition is other worldly, as well as the lyrical adventure to pair with it....Derek channels Duane with every note....

I’ve never been able to pick favorites. Top 5-10 was as close as I could ever get. TTB is absolutely my favorite band ever. Never thought anyone would eclipse the Dead for me but there it is. I said what I said 😁

I grew up in the 70s and 80s. We had like 20 of them lol. An embarrassment of riches as they say.
But Derek is certainly one of the greats certainly the best of his time.

I have 8 different recordings of this piece. Some with Duane and Berry and more without the 2. This is a great cover of the song. Of course, when I hear it, I think back to the past. Comparisions are unintended illogical exercises. Is the memory of 50+ years ago accurate or is my wisp of thought shaped by my own desire? As the end of the road looms ahead, the inclination to consider the longer road in the rearview grows.
