What a lovely location amidst the glorious daffodils- that really feels like Spring is here. I remember the name ‘Down Ampney’ from a hymn at school (which was a favourite of mine) ‘ Come Down Oh Love Divine’ - the music was written by Vaughan Williams & he called the tune ‘Down Ampney’- it is a lovely piece. As some of the other commentators have said ‘Wow’ you managed to fit so many quality videos into a rainy March! It is very enjoyable and relaxing to watch your uploads- thanks!

Thank you Diana! Oddly, I did a little clip about RVM's 'Down Ampney' hymn but my microphone didn't connect to the camera and there was no sound so I couldn't use it. Glad you enjoyed the video though! Hopefully the weather will steadily improve across the Westcountry over the next few days! Take care, Paul 👍🙂

What an excellent vlog, I'm not sure how you have managed so many great videos this month when we have had such grotty weather. The Vaughan Williams you selected worked so well with the walk & the scenery.

Aww! Thank you Faith! I felt like I had failed a little in the volume of my output this month, especially with the lighter days now. I only managing to do one Severn Way video, when I hoped to be well into my stride back on that, but the weather, as you say, has been, ugh! Glad you liked the music together with the scenery. It was a lovely place to do a vlog - nice and quiet, and I was not disturbed unduly by noise (apart from the aircraft!). Thanks again, Paul.

Paul enjoyed watching and hearing the recap of your month. I really don’t know how you mage to fit everything in. Sadly I think I must manage my time badly. Love the choice of music. Very special. Hope to see you soon and Myne enjoy a wander somewhere together. We are off to Cornwall again next week and are hoping for a stop to this incessant rain.
    Warmest wishes. 🙏🏻 Paul 👍🏻🚶🏻‍♂️🚶🏻‍♂️

Thank you Watto! Glad you enjoyed it. I only work part time now, so have more time to film. It has been really difficult this month though with such wretched rain nearly all the time! Yes, I would still like to do a wander with you as a collab video. You can always PM me on Facebook to let me know when you are free. Thanks for a lovely comment. Take care, Paul.

Thank you so much, Paul for all your videos, and of course Vaughan Williams music, as I am so much into classical music, is dear to me.

A very interesting and informative video combining the evocative music of VW and delightful images of Down Ampney. I visited the village some years ago, having walked along the Thames and Severn canal from Latton to Cerney Wick. Alas, bus times meant I didn't have time to visit the church. Your very informative commentary makes me wish I had allowed myself more time. I share your interest in the music of VW - which in my distant youth tended to be disparaged as 'English pastoral'. Nothing could be further from the truth in my view. As you indicate, his musical output was as varied as it was prodigious. Thank you for a very engaging video.

Thank you Malcolm! Yes, it's very close to Latton, just over the Wiltshire border. In fact, that's where the vicar came from that dropped Ralph V M. during the baptism. Glad you enjoyed my monthly summary - it was a rare dry day sandwiched between lots of rainy ones. Take care, Paul 👍

Wow! What a month you have had Paul! So many lovely places and interesting places visited. Down Ampney looks lovely and you had the perfect day to visit.
Lots of really fascinating information and the music worked really well.
Thank you for the mention in your Clevedon comment.

Thank you Louise! Glad you enjoyed the video - I guess I really did cover the full range of the region of my channel this month from the northern tip of Herefordshire to the south Cornish coast. Thanks again for a fabulous colab yesterday - it was brilliant! Take care, Paul

Very enjoyable and interesting video Paul. Interesting comment about the Church, the Church at Haresfield St Peter's near Standish is away from the Village . Lovely old Oak Tree in the field at the back of the Church. Could be a future video for you. All the best take care.

Haresfield church is where I went to Christmas Midnight Mass last year! It is quite close to where I live. It is indeed a lovely village and I walk the footpaths around there from home often. Thanks for your kind comments. Take care, Paul

Hi Paul, That was a lovely Vlog, well done and thanks for the mention. You have done so many videos this month .... and then you say your output is down!!! Don't worry theres really no need to apologise
You found another little village steeped in history. I recognised the name of Vaughan Williams but not the music that said I listened twice and the Fantasia piece had a real depth of sound it was perfect!!
That was a nice tribute to Ron and Roy and the others who have inspired you. I'm still going out and about walking and recording as I go and thinking about to how best present this in video format.
The Easter holidays start for me today as my working holidays are based around the calender in Cartagena, my wife is working tomorrow, so I'm off to Cartagena area this afternoon to attend to some business. I will make a couple of stops on the way to photograph the snow on the mountain tops and try and get a close up of some marble outcrops which are next door to this fabulous wayside Inn called the Venta Quemada (literally the Burnt Down Inn) maybe I will be able to get some photos of the windmills that I told you about on the fields of Cartagena. Then on Monday we are off to Cadiz for a few days. Easter is quite a celebration in Andalucia (more so I think than other parts of Spain) The religious processions depicting the last days of Christ are spectacular and can be appreciated by people of all faiths .... and by those like me who are not religious. I will post some photos.
I enjoy these Vlogs seeing some of the scenes and listening to top comments, its a great format.
    All the best!!

Thank you David - yes, there are lots of different ways to present walking videos - you can do them as a voice over after filming, if that is more comfortable for you - that can work really well. Wow! Sounds like you have a few busy days lined up for Easter - hope you have an enjoyable few days! Take care, Paul.

Hello Paul - greetings from Poland.
That was a beautiful video, photogrpahed perfectly to show the coming of Spring. Your commentary and information about Vaughan-Williams was lovely. Careful use of his music brought atmosphere to the proceedings. Congratulations - one of your masterpieces!
See you again very soon. Stay safe please.

Thank you Michael! That's very kind of you! As I mentioned in the video, Ralph V-M's music resonates with me deeply, as does the landscape of the Cotswolds, so it was a real pleasure making this video. I am so glad that you enjoyed it. Thanks again, take care, Paul.

It is a bit difficult to tell from that distance, but the aircraft looks like a Galaxy transport used by the USA

Thank you! Yes, that would make sense - the enormous USAF base of Fairford is only two miles from Down Ampney. 10 of these planes flew over while I was filming this vlog!

@@westcountrywanderings Paul, can I ask if you know whether the path around the airfield is public access? I just viewed the map and it’s not designated as such but wondered if it could be permissible. Thanks.

    • @westcountrywanderings
      @westcountrywanderings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@ian4iPad2 Hi Ian, not as far as I am aware. The airfield is just beyond where I filmed the memorial at the end of the video (that lies on the old peritrack) but the fence beyond into the new woodland is clearly marked 'private - no right of a way'. From the distance, you can make out a couple of the old airfield buildings which have been repurposed for agricultural use. I think that a lot of the original tarmac has been broken up so that it can be used for growing crops again. Hope this helps. Cheers, Paul.

I've never liked the title 'Cotswold Waterpark'
as it seems to imply a leisure centre
The 'Cotswold Wetlands' would be a far better title
