Hi, that is the Glidelock Extension System for wetsuits and comfort adjustments. Starting at about 3:00 you can see it being put into adjustment mode, the slide to adjust, then simply push back up to lock. No tools necessary. Just a matter of pulling down, sliding, and clicking up. Good luck!

Also, do you have a quote as to how much a replacement would be? It does seem like it would be more costly than an aluminum insert, but it is also designed to last longer (scratch resistant and fade resistant, etc).

Put the down payment on mine yesterday. It is due in the first week in July. I almost passed on it because they had a SS Dayton with the Silver Dials, arguably the most sought after Timepiece in the world. But I LOVE this Sub!!!

Exactly, Rolex would never do such a thing as use 316L on a beauty like this! 904L all the way! Some people don't understand the value of a Rolex because they don't know what goes into making it. Thanks for the comment ;-)

The green bezel/black dial older model sub (video: Rolex Submariner 50th Anniversary Edition) was the Anniversary model. The newer style ceramic bezel and green dial Sub in this video is a standard production model.
The Rolex Factory of dispatches by number of editing, for example, each edition will only 3000 watches (Random). Get it? He sold both the factory put it as normal manufacturing. Sharp video but I really hope those dust particles I saw above the dial area were on top of the crystal and not on the actual dial itself! I've heard reports of dust on brand new Rolex dials, I hope this wasn't one of those watches! But 8.5 grand is too much to pay for this beautiful watch I think. And way-way more than it cost to manufacture, still if I was wealthy I'd definately consider it, either the green version here or the black CLD coated Prohunter editions.
I bought an imitation one from Malaysia for approximately $45. Been using it for 2 years plus now on a daily basis and theres only minor scratches on the strap and on the rotating dial. Other than that the glow is still working perfectly and it keeps track of time rather well maybe 3 to 4 minutes behind the actual time. Hey, what do you expect for a $45 watch 😉
That's how it is with all high end brands. Production costs are not relevant for the consumer. Market value is. And "expensive/cheap" is relative, some people make enough money to consider this one cheap.

Surprisingly, the Hulk goes well with a suit, but it really depends on the colors. It's definitely not the most versatile watch and doesn't go with every outfit. It is a great watch in addition to your current collection.
Not at all, this watch doesnt have to match what you wear, we arent women! plus when it doesnt co-ordinate it stands out so much better. Green is the rolex colour.

No, that's what it's made for =) As long as the crown is screwed in and the watch passes water testing, the Sub has a water resistance of 300m.

CCJ879 yes (hulk for the full green both dial and bezel) and the 50th anniversary one is black dial and green bezel.
