i print 1000 of prints a month and it was happening to me and driving me crazy, i found you video and changed the settings . its early but seems to be working. thanks for the tip
I am so glad it's working for you! That’s a lot of prints per month!
Yep... I had it today... was only happening on glossy prints. I was about to do the full maintenance... then I caught your video... just did a 4x6 test... no more smudge... Thank you!!!
Came back again to this video. Such a lifesaver again. Wahoo
So glad to hear that! It was such a random problem I had… Glad you were able to use it again!
After so many things i did in my printer i even cleaned the roller printer manually 🤣, As simple as this finally solved my problem ❤ thank you very much
This scratching was happening on my Canon Pro-300 as well. I could hear it happening as the prints were being printed, and it would show up as clear scratch lines, and sometimes also faint black lines. I followed your easy step, and the problem resolved immediately! Thank you so much!
Thank you very much for your video. I just start using the printer and in the second day testing, it appear long vertical white scratches along some pictures. I will try checking the box.
THANK YOU!! no one in the canon pro 1000 group was helpful. This happened to me after I put non ink jet paper in a couple weeks ago. Then it would only do this on A4 prints. Although. I had my paper stored not flat for a while so maybe that is an issue too. Anyway it’s working now! ❤
Recently bought a used pro 1000. Not sure the last time the original owner used it, but it gave me a nice hello blotch at the top of the paper and it started making some screeching noises. I’ll try this tomorrow, hopefully it fixes my issues. Thanks for sharing.
Hi, I have watched the 3 videos on this printer! thank you for the info. I am considering this printer and yes I am glad you found that option... I mean, expensive paper/ink and getting that it's like a ball hitting on each of us. Very useful! I am from other country and there are not many printing companies near where I live now.
Thank You Mallory!! Very Helpful Info!!
This completely solved my problem as well on 4x6 thank you !
I am shocked that this happened to your Pro 1000. It’s not good enough at this price point to have such issue…..AND CANOW KNEW ABOUT THIS HENCE THE MENU TO FIX IT. great video btw
Thank you for this video it was instructive
i wish that you take us to the process of 4x6 printing , how long does it take to print like 200 hundreds photo
Hi. I might have the answer to what happens when you turn the option to on. The Canon Prograf 1000 and Pro 300 has a vacuum system to the bed of the printer to draw paper down to the bed when printing……What if this is not required to be switched on for heavier papers such as A4. A3 and A2. BUT with the lightness of 6x4 “ paper, they may lift slightly as the movement of the print head sweeps by over head. Then the vacuum bed is required . Hence the option to turn it on or off. ?
You just saved my life.
I just started my business last month and have about 600 prints so far. Suddenly, yesterday, I started getting these smudges just like this. There's no curling in my paper, so I have no idea why it started. I was really started to freak out, since I had an order of 200 prints, and I already wasted 20 prints that kept smudging. (Yes, I'm the kind of idiot who just keeps running into a wall and hope the wall falls down)
I turned the option on and viola! Problem gone! Thank you!
But now I wonder how this affects my prints. It seems like I have to manually load my paper one at a time now, and it keeps asking me to confirm printing with this option on. I wonder what the root cause of the issue is.... have to dig into it
Life saver thanks!!
Glad to hear it! Hope it helps you get back to printing!
I have only had this issue with the canon pro 1000 with 4x6 prints- From what I gather, even though this printer can print 4x6 images it is not best suited for 4x6 images. My paper and ink is too expensive for this- BUT I have never tried this option. I will give it a shot and see if I can print 4x6 images without smudges.
Interesting! I first had the issue with 5x7... did you try the fix?! Hopefully it solved your problem :) Thanks for watching, Jonathan!
Many thanks!
Happy printing!
Very helpful!!
Was quality of images affected? (canon says it may affect quality because print head is further away than usual)
Wonderful, your advice worked perfectly, thank you!!!
Ah! I’m so glad!! Such a simple fix, right?!
Hi,
I have paper abrasion set as true and still the ink doesn't bond to paper...
I've tried new ink cartridge and different paper types and profiles.
Helppppp
I can’t get the printer to work after I updated my Mac. Any info about this issue?
Nice! I found this support article but didn't have the confidence to try that step until seeing a real person with a problem similar to mine do it. In my case, I had a 5x7 Glossy smudging and scratching at the same spot every print. Do you know whether there are downsides to having that Prevent Abrasion setting turned on? Why wouldn't I just leave it turned on always?
Glad you stumbled on my video!!! I honestly don't think here are any downsides besides perhaps additional time? I am leaving it on for all my printing moving forward to avoid wasting anymore ink!
It worked,thanks!
Quick question Mallory, when you print 4x6 prints do you load multiple pieces of paper at once, if so how many?
Hi there! I will typically load up to 10 pieces of 4x6 in the “hopper”!
what kind of table is your printer on?
It's a sideboard from Wayfair! I b&%^$ to assemble, but I think it looks nice! www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/mercury-row-brumit-59-wide-4-drawer-sideboard-w003334530.html?csnid=C5BE5244-C88E-486A-8BD7-7787C85AFF90&_emr=f41689b1-19e6-4001-93c5-bb2bd1cfd78f&_eml=950d5db8-cadd-4528-8ec0-61a12dc27684&refid=EML_39535&source=graymatter
WOW! thank you for this .
Most welcome, Marlin!!! I'm glad it helped someone else :D
Question for your album book Do you use 4x6 mostly or larger size images?
For this album it's just 4x6. My next album will definitely allow for some larger prints as well thought!
Wowwww I had the exact scenario. Printed a whole bunch of large prints with no issue. Ordered 4x6 and boom burned looking/scratched images! I ended up using a 17x22 paper and cut 4x6 pictures out of it instead. Thought I was crazy! Just checked my printer, and that setting was off! Why the frig would that not be an automatic setting!
I'm so glad I'm not the only one!!! I can't believe they wouldn't leave that on for all sizes! Glad this helped :)
This setting appears to have worked for me. Why is this even a setting? Shouldn't the printer be designed to prevent abrasion?
I wonder the same thing!!! So glad it helped!
That’s an odd setting. Is there ever a time when you DON’T want to avoid scratching the paper?
Oh my god THANK YOU
So glad this was helpful!!!
Hi, I have a Problem with MBK Colour on my Pro2000 where with every print, it takes like a Cover on top and after +- 10 prints( 50×70 or 60×80 cm) MBK is every time empty. I change allrrady three Catriges and still the same Problem. Anybody with same Problem? Thank you people 🤲🙏
Why would anyone ever have a setting called "Prevent paper abrasion" turned off? Why is it not just on, by default?
Isn't that kind of like asking your waiter for "no death crystals, please"?
It made no sense to me either... please leave the death crystals out!!! hahaha
wtf would this be set to off???? lol Thank You!!!!!
I HAVE NO IDEA!!! Thanks for watching :)
