This concerto was my first concerto that I ever listened to, and it got me to listen to a second concerto. Since then, I’ve loved classical music and had a tremendous passion for it, and this piece will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Wunderschöne und spannende Interpretation dieses spätromantischen und ethnisch komponierten Konzerts mit seidigem doch gut phrasiertem Ton der technisch fehlerlosen Solovioline sowie gut vereinigten und perfekt entsprechenden Tönen der anderen Instumente. Der zweite Satz klingt besonders schön und echt melodisch. Im Kontrast klingt der dritte Satz echt lebhaft und auch energisch. Der intelligente und geniale Dirigent leitet das ausgezeichnete Orchester im rhythmischen Tempo und mit möglichst effektiver Dynamik. Wunderbar und atemberaubend zugleich!
Inconsciamente ho utilizzato alcuni motivi musicali di questo gran capolavoro nelle mie composizioni, la musica di questo concerto ti resta in testa, è un effetto collaterale assai positivo.

She plays with guts, dare and verve. One of my teachers once said: "A good performer or composer will make the listener perk up and sit up. All distractions are gone for the moment". That is exactly what her playing does to me, once I start listening the sense of time disappears and I find myself listening to the whole work. She turns this concerto into a powerful experience. I can imagine Dvorak would be very pleased!

@@dpetrov32 What a sad life you must live, if a single instance of being a quarter-tone flat in a live performance is enough to dismiss the whole endeavor as unworthy of your time. Do you also disown your children whenever they spill milk on the floor? :/
@@macchupicchu3 Indeed! Pretty much any performer makes mistakes in live performances. To play 100% without mistakes happens but rarely. He might not know that a fear of making mistakes can affect a performance negatively, making it sound like "playing it safe". You can't say that about Kyung Wha-Chung, Ashkenazy, Pollini, Cziffra, Horowitz etc. etc. They go for it.
One of his weaker works sadly. A bit by the numbers. No real hook or memorable Melodies. The piece just rambles on and seems to go nowhere. I was kinda disappointed when I heard it for the first time
a lot of classical music requires multiple listens. it's unfortunately very rare to like a piece on first listen. it took me five listens before i began liking shostakovich cello concerto no 1. perhaps this piece gets better after relistens too.
I don't think we are listening to the same music. I think this is one of the great romantic concertos by one of the composers who gives me the most joy (along with the performers).
I always felt that melodies from this concerto in a different universe could be in Dvorak symphonies and vice versa and we would never notice.

It's not his cello concerto, granted but I think it has plenty of catchy tunes.
