    So helpful! Just made the switch to Saxon and was feeling nervous about all the different things to do each lesson. I’m definitely a pick and choose in each lesson type of teacher. So I really appreciate your approach.

    Thank you for sharing this video. I’ve been using Saxon math for two years and always feel like I need to do everything single item. Loved how you explained combining two lessons a day if it’s not a new concept. So helpful!!!

    This was so helpful! We are switching from Teaching Textbooks to Saxon with our older 2 and I've been trying to figure out if I want to just start our 1st and 2nd graders with Saxon too and is making me lean towards it. Thanks for the walk through!

    I love this! I started using Saxon a few months ago with my three boys. To make things easier I signed my oldest up for Nicole the math lady. It helps to free up time for the younger two, plus he really likes the independence. I have one like yours that’s likes to work at a slower pace so it’s been a perfect fit for him and one son that really loves math. I love your idea of doing two lessons at once. I’m going to try that with my him and see how it goes!

    Thanks so much for this!! I think I mentioned to you on another video how I was using Singapore math. I used dimensions KA & KB. Switched to Primary math for 1a and 1b. Things are going okay. Although, I feel that the addition method is strange and seems almost counterproductive to the way my son learns. It just doesn’t feel the same as the dimensions. Saxon is looking very intriguing right now. I’m thinking about switching now for sure!

    • @sciencemama
      @sciencemama  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, my son was the same way … their technique for teaching the addition/subtraction fact were just not clicking for my son! He is much quicker now with Saxon 😊

    Hi Angie! Thanks for this video. I am going to switch us over to Saxon and I appreciate your walk-through.
    We are rather stalled in our math journey with RightStart. My oldest is 6 1/2 and in level B. The Saxon Placement Inventory resulted in grade 2 being recommended--since you have both Saxon 1 and 2, can I ask: What's the fact memorization expectation for the beginning of grade 2? Does it expect the child to know, say, all addition facts through 10 instantly?
    This is where I've really noticed the lack in RS. We just aren't getting enough practice in addition and subtraction to make it quick recall. Also, it just feels so all over the place each lesson. I really wanted to love RS.
    At least I have the entire manipulative kit from RS, seems we'll be able to use it with Saxon!😂

      Hi! No they don’t have to know them at the beginning of level 2, they go back through them all … a little bit faster than level 1, but the facts are cover very throughly!

    Saxon is looking more and more appealing to me. I can’t do what we have now with game after game.
    Do you know if this is the common core version?
    Thanks!

    • @sciencemama
      @sciencemama  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't know if there is a common core version - I feel like there might be textbooks that are used in the public schools that are not the same as the ones I showed here!

    Are there word problems in Saxson 2? If not, do you use a supplemental book that only has word problems? Thanks

    • @sciencemama
      @sciencemama  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes there are word problems ... at least for Saxon 1 & 2, there is one word problem at the beginning of each worksheet!

    How do you do two lessons with two kids? I’m super intimidated by Saxon because of the length of the lessons…so doing more than one kid at a time seems really scary. How do you do it? How do you not lose one child’s momentum/attention while working with the other?

    • @sciencemama
      @sciencemama  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It actually wasn't too bad ... I would only combine on certain lessons (like geometry). Additionally, you would only do the warm-up section once and then do the two new lessons.

      @@JLMABIO gotcha, I would say I wouldn’t have been able to do that but maybe it could be done! I’m very much a math person so that content wasn’t a challenge I just liked having the techniques and tips for how to teach certain things. But I think someone with a different personality might be able to roll with it easier 🤷🏼‍♀️

    I’m thinking about switching my 6 year old daughter to Saxon. I used Rightstart for her kindergarten year and things just didn’t click. I should have switched sooner, but everyone says such great things about RSM! It just did not work for my daughter and was much too teacher intensive for me.

      @@sciencemama she starts at level 3. I don't think we'd actually need that type of support for level 3 but my son might enjoy it and it might make it more independent. Robinson Curriculum says if you've got your math facts down to just start in 4/5! So that's my focus this summer!
