I believe Lewis and Clark had a lot fewer shopping carts to deal with in their day though discarded wicker baskets and wooden salt pork boxes were a bit of a problem. Kidding aside in 1804 trash was most often just thrown out the most convenient door or window at home so broken dishes and bones paved most yards being left to scavengers to clean up. Out in the wilderness tins, wooden boxes, broken items, etc were just discarded on the ground or in the water whichever was easier at the moment. Lately it seems like we're going back to that despite improvements that were made during the later 1800's and early 1900's. If you want a shorter challenge consider entering the 2025 Everglades Challenge as its only a 300 mile paddle or sail race however if you want more we have the 1,200 mile paddle or sail Ultimate Challenge. Note that you will have to understand that there are Hammer Head, Bull, Bonnet Head, etc Sharks along the route that can and will kill you given the opportunity along with Aligators, Salt Water Crocks, Water Moccasins, Diamond Backs, Pythons, Bears, Panthers, Spiders, Disease Laden Mosquitos/Ticks, Poisonous Plants, Dehydration, Exhaustion, etc plus Sudden Tropical Storms, Water Spouts, Tornado's and Lightning of Biblical Proportions so you have to sign a death waiver absolving anyone and everyone of any responsibility if any of the aforementioned things or things left unmentioned harm you or kill you while preparing, participating or traveling to or from the race. Also there will be no safety or rescue services provided. It is recommended that you consult with your physician before entering. You are also warned that any things done by the organizers to make things safer may have the opposite effect and that any advice that they give might not be good advice and could also kill you. Bottom line is "ENTER AND PARTICIPATE IN THESE EVENTS AT YOUR OWN RISK!" Oh and have fun! ;> How's that sound? Myself, I participate by observing from afar. Best!
