    I like it and i don't like it. That's what i like, and don't like, about it. Good job bro.

    Nice project and love the rustic look. If you're into making pens on a lathe you could use the smaller scraps for pen blanks. You need about 4" long by 3/4" square for a pen blank. A mid-level Sierra pen sells for $40-$50 with the pen hardware in the $10-$15 range. You could probably get 5-10 blanks from the scraps on each stave and 30-40 from a full stave. I'll be making a few dozen pens for my wife's ministry business in a couple weeks, so pens are on my mind 🙂

      That’s awesome. I’ve wanted to get a lathe. That May be a good excuse

    You can pressure wash the staves if you have access

      Seems like a huge mess to try that

    Nice work man! Be awesome to see a video on how you did the vcarve on the curve. Couldn’t really grasp the concept here.

      @SothpawDesigns  ปีที่แล้ว

      I may do that. Simply put, I asked a friend to create the curved surface in Fusion (I don't do much 3D design yet), and simply imported the 3D Object into VCarve. Once it's imported, attaching the toolpath to the 3D surface is easy. That was the part that I showed in the video.

    Thank you for the video. Very clear and easy to follow. I live in wine country so wine barrels are my primary material. Their interiors are very clean compared to a bourbon barrel, thank goodness. I am buying a CNC next week so your video opened a lot of possibilities. Take care.

    MMMM Now I need a bourbon. What's your fav Bourbon? My go-to lately is Buffalo Trace and Wild Turkey 101. Great vid!

      My go-to is Bulleitt. I've toured Buffalo Trace, WIlderness Trail, Maker's Mark, Woodford Reserve and WIld Turkey. I actually live about 2 miles from a new distillery, Wilderness Trail, which has a really good rye. Living in bourbon country is a double edged sword!!

      @@SothpawDesigns You are in an excellent location lol! I'm way up here in Canada! I just googled Wilderness Trail, sounds awesome! I'll give it a try. Cheers!

    • @SothpawDesigns
      @SothpawDesigns  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@terrybaus2208 I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure that Fusion has a free version for personal use. I use VCarve Pro, but had a friend make the curved surface for me.

    Nylon disk on an angle grinder cleans this rings fast and great. Also a nylon wheel connected to a drill spins all that charcoal off the back of the staves and still keeps all the color. Thanks. All Things Barrel and Wood check me out...

    No bourbon barrels in Idaho if you find them they are 300 to 500 bucks

    • @SothpawDesigns
      @SothpawDesigns  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ouch. They're obviously common in Ky. $75-150, and you can often find them for free.

    I like leaving all those imperfections. If you were to clean them all up, they would just be curved pieces of oak, and not very special at all.

    • @SothpawDesigns
      @SothpawDesigns  ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. I sanded it enough the clean it up, but like leaving the imperfections.
