It turned out really nice. I like watching these types of content from good people. I'm in the process of The TH-cam woodworking content, these videos really help with ideas and knowledge. Thank you very much
Really neat idea. I’ve made a few projects with both bourbon and wine barrels and have used many coats of spray lacquer to seal the char and also the wine finish. For the char, I lightly sanded and vacuumed the surface well to remove the loose/ soft stuff. Worked well and kept the character of the barrel in the project.
This was lovely! I, sadly, don't do wood working, but happened upon this while looking for something to do with bourbon barrel lids and staves. Had to check the product link. I'm in Kentucky... 40 minutes from Bardstown. You can get lids for $10 and staves for $2-5 each. Place was stacked floor to celing!
Brilliant, Newton! Really well done! 😃 You could've used the leftover boards from the barrel head, to make the handles... But it turned out amazing this way! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Lmao! " i think a spray finsih is a really smart move so i`m gonna with a hard wax finish by hand" ! Looks really good. I might of take a wire brush to the underside to clean off some of that char, a light sanding with 220 and then sealed it in with poly but that`s just me. No arguing that you ended up with a nice finished product my friend. Thanks for another great video
Sweet build. Love how you think out of the box. Handles were awesome. On the hard wax finish, you missed a spot in the corner...JK. Thank you for all your effort.
Great project but I would expect nothing less from you! I made your plaid cutting board and it turned out great. Also made some of your simpler projects. Where do you get the barrel heads from? Thanks, Jack Healy
@@NewtonMakes awesome surprisingly enough they are tricky get hold decent ones here usally there bit worn and done and they can cost. Ave seen half decent barrels before costing £200-300 so that'd be like $400-500 dollars a barrell nuts! Can a ask your opinion on a plainer thicknesser combo for setting up woodworker on a budget? 🏴👍
Billy how come you didn't use the round edge cut offs for the handles instead of the walnut ? would it not have looked gooderer 🙂 and even less waste 🤔 still a great project 👍
Nicely done! I have to ask, though - did you test this process off-camera before filming this? I find myself scrapping a lot of camera footage filming my first attempts at new projects and curious if you have the same experience.
Surprised that the head stayed together, maybe they glued it after the fact? I thought the heads (and staves) we're all held in by friction, the bands holding them. Why it is such a craft to make the barrels as they have to be watertight with no glue. (As it would affect taste of whatever spirit is aging in them.) *Edit: when will I learn to watch entire video before commenting? Ugh... You showed they were held together with dowels. Great project by the way!

Glad you enjoyed it!
You most certainly have the gift of creativity!
It's fun to stretch the creativity muscles a bit.
That's great, Billy. The handles are different from what I was expecting but I like your version much better. Take care.
Bill
They are different than what I expected too. Sort of let the project run in its own direction.
Geweldig om te zien wat er allemaal mogelijk is met hout. Hou ervan. Op naar het volgend project.
Glad to hear you liked it!
Wieder mal ein einfaches, aber tolles Projekt…immer wieder schön zu sehen was du „Bastelst“ 😉👍👍

Thank you for the kind words!
Besser…a bayer 😂

AWESOME! Will definitely try this!
Very nicely done. Simple, yet elegant design. Very sleek my brother!

There are definitely ways to keep it as rough as possible. Depends on what someone is willing to compromise and the condition of the barrel.
Very nice work!
Another awesome video and project! I love repurposed items!!!
Thanks man 👍👊
Welll this is different for you, looks great and I really enjoyed it!
Always good to try new things and stretch the legs.

I'm saving those for a future project. I have ideas in mind muhahaha!

Perhaps I'll do that with the next one. A lot of options with these. 👍

One can serve me Rittenhouse Rye on anything! This video was very entertaining mate - cheers
Very nice but did you sand the actual barrel head and if you did how did you keep the lettering on it ?

Midwest barrel company. I put a link in the video description.
@@NewtonMakes thanks very much!
Beautiful peice again m8 loving the videos. How easy do u find it to get hold of whiskey barrels? 🏴👍
They are really easy to find. The cost varies depending on how far away it is, but they certainly are not rare in the United States.

What he said.
I thought it would be too much barrel. A lot of barrel on barrel action! I saved those for a possible coaster project in the future.

No, you always see me make it on the spot. I don't make things ahead of time to practice.

Great project by the way!
I'm glad it was held with just dowels because it would have been maddening to try to cut a rectangle from a 22" diameter circle.
ummm why not buy a whole barrel and make 2 and have the staves for other stuff...
