I worked for dish as tech rep chat for 7 years and this is the first time i saw a tech on site in action ❤️, hopefully we can see a custom work order for moving dish hehe
Hey man appreciate the video. It’s probably hard working and filming with one of your hands. Hopefully you post more videos. It’s very interesting and informative
Yeah, I'm still new to the job myself. All of the outside work is simple enough, it's the different steps that go with the reciever activation that is a bit challenging for me.
I was too. Just be yourself. Been there. It's not what you think. Trust me. Be natural. Your not always gonna sell shit. It's a flair that grows on you but in my opinion, it depends on the demographics as well but just apply yourself. You may be surprised.
Congrats man! I know a lot about dish equipment/satellites because it’s been a little hobby for me since 2019 and it’s honestly kind of fun. You will like it. Any questions give me a holler and I might be able to answer. I will tell you something cool because you said you are in the middle TN/Nashville area, in southern Illinois, I can get the Nashville locals like WKRN, WSMV etc… on both the eastern arc and western arc and I’m 150 miles out of the viewing area and a 3 hour drive from Nashville. It’s like this because I am in in range of the spotbeams and transponders that those locals are on. I’ve figured anything over 300 miles away from my location will not work and it says you are outside of viewing area or complete signal loss.
Those hubs are neat. I used Check Switch a lot. I liked the diag screens for the LNB, Satellites, and transponders. Being it’s Circular polarized the polarity didn’t matter.
I worked with Dish for eight years from 2008-2016 as a dish technician. I got into the point to be a level 4 tech, and it was a great job. The metrics got too difficult to meet when you are a level 4 tech, especially when they included sales on the job like screen cleaners, surge protectors, home theaters, and TV mounts. It got to a point that managers got too pushy with the sales. If you didn't sell well during a week, they started giving you too much in the office. Why are you not selling many things? etc.. Before they included the sales requirements, it was a good job. Some jobs were easy and some difficult. I loved it when they had directv, and it was just basically replacing the dish and using the same cables. But some jobs were bad. A six room installation and no cables run in any of the rooms.
I went to house in a suburban area that has full of shits. Literally full of cat and dogs shit everywhere in the house and outside the house...eww.... If you can't make any sales, they'll probably let u go at some point!!!!
Just went to the virtual meet and now scheduled and got a schedule with the hiring manager Sep 7th. Hopefully it goes well and I get hired on. I'll be an in-home technician if I get the position.
Could you give an update on how the job is going if you got the job. I'm thinking about taking a position near me but really never done this type of work before.
@@gregorybennett5865 If you have no prior experience they'll make sure you're ready by the time you go out on your own. And if you ever get stuck there's plenty of people to call and resources available
@@alecsalvagni8383 Thanks. My brother works for an alarm security job, so I'm sure he could show me some tricks with wiring and what not. I'll give em a call and see what happens
I started this work at the age of 14. I had to do too much of it. I have given a lot of time in this field. I have tried all satellite trackers from 1 degree to 145 degree. It had become this passion for me?
Im about to start training as a tech, but during the interviews, they REALLY drove home the point that SALES of their other products is what's going to determine how well im paid. Never done sales before. In serious need of advice. Besides "find a different job." I want to be good at it.
Might be late but this was my downfall, I actually enjoyed the job and met a lot of cool people and cool stories, but it got tiring having awesome work yet getting chewed out daily because I didn't sell a $50 plastic electrical adapter you can get better on Amazon for $20 or demo an $1000 sound bar to old ladies on social security. I would say give it a shot and if sales really isn't your thing you will have a few months to start looking elsewhere before they really start ringing your neck over sales, also if you're dead set on being good at sales you gotta try and trick customers into thinking they "Need" the upgraded HDMI cables for $50, Power outlet specifically for the Joeys, etc. I just couldnt do it.
@@jdf9456 Same, I wound up telling them "this is no way to run businesses, and that they should feel ashamed", to keep it short. You could tell that they definitely were, too. Now, I'm delivering for Papa John's until I find the best fit for an actual life-long career. The company is only still in existence because of poor elderly people. Sickening.
@Zer0ctopus7 Yeah you made the right call, Dish wastes millions on hiring new techs every year, but if they stopped forcing current Techs to be soulless snake oil salesmen, they would have far less turnover and save so much. I think they have maybe 5 years left before bankruptcy. Good luck on the next venture in life!
@@jdf9456 Thanks, that means a lot, and I hope the same for you and every working class man/woman. I also think 5 years is a generous call. From this experience, it surprises me that they still even exist. The place I went to, (the "hub" I guess you could say) to be interviewed, just looked like a storage facility, with a nasty office upstairs. 🤦
Not going to lie I quit after a couple of days after going solo.. they didn't give me any proper training & I just got frustrated after a few days and quit. I also wasn't happy about also having to be a salesman.
get used to it, thats the direction of the majority of the industry. From restaurants to tech jobs. There’s always a sale opportunity within service. It goes hand in hand, and many people overlook it. Think about it, you go for a brake replacement at the shop and the mechanic notices your brake line are leaking. Making the suggestion to also replace the line is a sale otherwise he would just do your brakes and move on.
Dish Network here in California as a tech, you make peanuts, starting pay is $20 yeah you get free service and a van to take home 🏡 but it is what it is
After you finish an installation, you have to bring your items into the house and offer the customer all the sales options like screen cleaners, surge protectors, TV mounts, soundbar system etc...
Being a dish tech sucks, working 10-12 hour shifts 5 days a week can definitely burn you out. Good thing this isn’t my actual career. Would not recommend this job, also very sales heavy.
Yeah I was in the same boat, they advertised 4 days a week but it rarely happened, and it was middle of summer so many techs were getting heat strokes, injuries from fatigue. I actually didn't mind the job itself but I wasn't a good snake oil salesman.
