  • Some noise i couldn't get rid of, but overall, much better sound than the "Maria in Mexico" melodram edition i have.

    i was borm too late. this is the most glorious singing of this aria. a true Godess. RIP Callas

    Gracias a ti y a todos los que suben estos valiosisimos registros sonoros de la Callas, ya que a nadie se le ocurrió grabarla en vivo, en sus performances. Hoy se cumplen 44 años de su muerte. Sigue siendo la divina, magistral, única, voz sideral, primma donna assoluta¡

    Thanks for the great job you have done here. The remaining background noise does not matter: when you have a giant like Callas performing, her Art shines through. I have her singing this aria later in her career which I thought was the pinnacle. But here she has a thinner voice which is even better.

      Guido Picco. This was her very first Trovatore, Mexico 1950. She prepared Leonora alone, Serafin having refused to coach her if she was being conducted by someone else. BUT 6 months later he will conduct her at the San Carlo: January 1951, with Giacomo Lauri-Volpi, Paolo Silveri and Chloe Elmo. The Napoli live Trovatore is astonishing, an absolute reference and comparable only to the 1962 Salzburg version under Karajan with another superb quartet of singers. Maria delivers this Act 4 aria in a slightly more refined manner compared to Mexico but as she goes on her despair becomes more eloquent, the tears in the voice cascade like black pearls, and she will repeat the violent high D, attacked cleanly in the air "non preparato" and coming out of nowhere. Do look it up my friend.
