    Hi.Good presentation. I didn't see the whole thing, sorry. But, fun fact: Microvilli are present on the cuticle side of epidermal cells. Also, another fun fact: the epidermal cells contain plasma membrane plaques that are thought to be the actual site of synthesis of the chitin micofibril. Yet another one: these microvilli contain actin microfilaments, which are instrumental in producing movement of the small, fingerlike projections of epithelial cells.

      Cool! Thanks Paul! I appreciate it =) I made this video back when I was in grad school still earning my degree in entomology so it was definitely a simplified version for my own students =)

    Loved the video. But I don’t think armor was as limited as you make it out to be. When it came to maneuverability, knights were trained in its use since a very young age. Also that 60lb is evenly distributed over the whole body. There are plenty of demonstrations of people easily doing nimble maneuvers in full plate armor. Also tempered steel didn’t simply get pierced by arrows. They also wore chain mail and gambesons underneath. Arrows weren’t the main concern. Gunpowder is what made knights useless. And pikemen made calvary useless before that. But I came for learning about insect physiology. So all that is irrelevant anyway.

      Thanks! I must admit I'm not a super history buff and was just repeating information that I had read online and from what I had heard in museums. Thanks for clarifying!

    hey nancy thank u for the vid. 1 question: do insects have orgasms?

    • @SciBugs
      @SciBugs  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, not like you're thinking at least. The male does place a sperm packet inside the female but in most cases sex is unpleasant for the female. Orgasms seem to be a thing that evolved in higher social animals.

      +Nancy Miorelli I guess there's a parallel. sex is painful sometimes for human females as well
