      He didn't really give anything away. At that point Columbo was already on his trail. This was part of the dance...Columbo pretending not to know he did it, and Cassavetes pretending to 'help' him. Both knew what the other was doing.
      For Cassavetes, this was a game, and one he was sure he would win. That's what makes him such a dark character (to me, anyway). His victim is absolutely nothing to him. She was just another game to be disposed of when it's not fun anymore. And this is one of the villains on this show that I think would absolutely kill again if he got away with this.

      20 minutes long.
      Imagine: Some criminal (rich and connected, obviously) who has actually heard of the schlubby detective who has put away a good chunk of their peers. They commit a murder, and five minutes of being talked to by Columbo just... realizes what's happening. Who they're talking to. They breakdown and confess.

    have a theory: Colombo actually committed all the crimes. That's why he knew so many details right away. Each of the alleged perpetrators was actually innocent. Colombo had no alibi for either case. Colombo is a typical careerist, something like a firefighter who set himself on fire. That's my theory.

    • @thegodofalldragons
      @thegodofalldragons 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Problem with that: the audience sees every single murder happen. It's one of the show's trademarks.
      "Ah, but maybe those scenes never happened and are just Columbo's versions of events! Unreliable narrator, and all that!"
      Fine. In that case, Columbo's investigations never happened and he's actually just a manifestation of the killer's guilty conscience that eventually drives them to confess (which would honestly fit better than your theory, since many of the killers rub their guilt in Columbo's face when they think he has no proof of it, which wouldn't make sense if they were innocent).
      Or, you know what, maybe none of it is real! Maybe it's all fake, and maybe none of these people really are who they say they are! They're just pretending to be cops or killers, like some sort of elaborate... TV show!
