As an artist I wouldn't purchase this box because I know what to look for when I need certain tools. As for the ideal of an art box, it's a great ideal for people aspiring to be an artist and for people to learn about art. :)
+Jagwired Artz ...Yes, I like to use certain kinds of art supplies and it bugs me when I don't have original boxes or containers for the items. I have complete Derwent, Prismacolor sets etc...those items that you have to throw in a random box or drawer somewhere...that would drive me nuts as I like to organize and have at least a basic minimum 24 set for every medium I use.
I'm an artist and I feel that the price is too expensive and not worth it. You find better and cheaper items at Wal-Mart and other art supply stores. Good job reviewing it though.

Hot & Spicy Designs haha! I agree, I just went to Michael's- For the higher priced stuff I just use a 50 % coupon and buy the necessities.
BunnyStark Yes, you are so right. I've watched all of the reviews I could find on these subscription boxes and it is way over priced. Besides you can go to Amazon and buy everything all together as if you were to get one of these boxes and the prices I came up with was just half of what they are charging for this box. It's nuts! These subscription boxes are getting way out of hand in my opinion. Who do they think they are fooling?
+Susie LaLonde true dat, I just like looking at the unboxings to see if there's anything new or special I haven't thought of that could I get from Amazon, dollar tree, or Walmart. if it's really unique to the box, I may get the box itself.
+Hot & Spicy Designs Too be fair Mepxy markers aren't bad, infact they are quite good. But the box looks overpriced. I bought a set of 36 for a little over 100 bucks.

As a artist, I'm a fan of subscription boxes, and Smart art seems to be not very affordable, and yet it supplies a lot of needed art supplies to create work in some sets, plus it includes brand names!Unfortunately, This yet is a big no-no, because you spend 50$ to get a random eraser,pencil,sharpener and markers that aren't as good as Copies! Plus the range of mepxy markers included here is impossible to use together and blend.My favorite thing in this set was the Fabriano paper because I've used it before and it's good quality!But the rest of the stuff should be changed...like, add one pencil with eraser, some Copic ciaos, paper and a Sakurai micron and this would instantly be worth it!
I agree. I loved the concept of it, but it does look like they could have added much higher quality products or even more materials for a $50 box! I can understand that this was that way because of the pointilism challenge, but I still wouldn't pay this much for it. Not like those markers are bad, I've actually had some of those for a while, but I'd definitelyy have wanted some more from it.
Agreed. Mepxy markers are good, but not necessarily worth it in this set... if that's make Sense?

Thanks for the review. I was considering this subscription for my 12 year old. Now I don't think I'll get it. Seems way to expensive for what you get. Too bad your marker was nearly dried out. Anyone know of any decent monthly art subscriptions out there??
I've watched videos of ArtSnacks subscription box, and they seem pretty good overall for the money. Also, try typing in "art subscription box" or "kids children art subscription box" in a search engine to find a list of products available :)

The fact the included watercolour paper with markers is horrible. Using watercolours paper will dry out your markers faster and depending on if it’s textured or not will destroy the nib.They really should have included marker paper or cardstock. Also the upload your art and win thing is rigged you art could be a piece a poo but if you have a big following you will win

WTF!...who buys this stuff? Those Copics alone I can get at 'Michael's with a coupon for way cheap along with the paper. That other stuff you can probably get it all for about $5.00.
Those aren't Copics. Those are Copic knock-offs.
