You and System made me cry. As a Christian, I think I understand this song quite a bit more now. To believe that I jammed to this song since it came out.
Agreed! It's not only about skillfully covering a song in another style. They manage to maintain, or even enhance the essence of the originals. A+ indeed.
What about Sad Statue and Toxicity? I mean, obviously BYOB and Chop Suey are awesome, but I think there's a ton of underrated ones with SOAD (probably because so many are so fricking good)
I really appreciate that with these heavier songs, you don't cut in with dialogue. Wow, this was the best cover I've ever seen or heard for this song...
SOAD are Armenian-American their history is full of war and survival ever since they adopted Christianity They fought Ancient Persia and the Ottoman Empire
@@christiandauz3742 Yeah bro, I've read in history books that SOAD fought with the Spartans against the Persians in the battle of Termopylae, and fought against the Ottomans to retake Jerusalem! 😭
15 year old me loved the original, even though I only partially understood the meaning behind the lyrics, I felt the "rage" behind them. 34 year old me now loves this cover even more than the original (as much as I love SOAD and Serj), as it's more in tone with how I feel about the lyrics now, and I also feel like it's more in tone with Serj's current style. The rage we feel towards the world in our youth, when our eyes start opening towards how the world functions, and how no one is doing anything about it.... versus the sorrow we feel as we age and realise the horrors going on in the world, and how we are, in the end, powerless as lone individuals to have any real impact in making any significant change.
You have such a good way to keep the soul of a song alive in your covers, no matter how much they deviate from the original. It's so beautiful, thank you!!
I heard around 3 seconds of the chorus in a video of yugopnik and was jmmedietely in love with the song. It's just so well done and has a simultaneously depressing and hopeful aspect almost like a person angry at the system for so long that they sort of accept it and are hopeful about potential change. Its beautiful.
You guys are really amazing arrangers. Even with the different style all the intensity is still there. And the little tweaks like shortening the chorus and reharmonizing a few key spots. Top notch
Original version: Played during the war that will wipe out most of humanity This version: Played as some survivor walks down the empty streets in the wake of the destruction

I feel you. I was 9 and my brother played it in his car all the time - my English was by no means good enough to catch most of the lyrics, so all I heard was stuff about a party and "Why do they always send the poor?". Took me four more years to get it.
I was 8 or 9, similar experience. We had religious parents tho, and I remember hiding under the bunk bed to listen to this on my brothers portable cd player xD

Man, this song hits different when you can comprehend the lyrics in real time. Nice work.
Retains the protest quality of the original, but also leads it into a wistful mood. 10/10 absolute banger.
This is probably my favourite cover you've ever done. Puts a whole new spin on an already powerful song, amazing job!
