Yup. View counts might not say so but many people don't have a problem waiting even months for guaranteed banger videos. Ahoy is a channel that uploads like 2-5 videos a year and it always gets me excited. Similar case for Lemmino among others.
@@Verchiel_ As far as I'm concerned, TH-camrs like Rata and LittleKuriboh basically invented the concept of "quality over quantity". Who needs an upload schedule when you can laugh your ass off about how terrible Yu-Gi-Oh is?
@@r4nd0mguy99 As far as personal standing goes, fair. Though there are older channels, that had more quality across the board. Ahoy for example has been uploading videos for 14 years, and ever since he started his voice overs, editing and graphics along with sound design were great. I don't doubt Rata's or Kuriboh's content is great, but Kuribox's content's greatness comes solely from the commentary.
Please Chris, don’t beat yourself up about the lack of daily releases for Journey Across Japan. I doubt anyone but the most vocal complainers will hold it against you. I actually found it allowed me to better appreciate how much work goes into your videos. This time you set off with an entire team that was there just to edit the videos, and it still wasn’t enough. You tried, you found out it really wasn’t possible, and you gave your viewers some really good insight into what goes on behind the scenes. I see that as a win!
Man we were also bummed Giri/Haji didn’t get much attention, we watched the whole thing and LOVED it 🥰 also thought Tokyo Vice was great (with Watanabe San!!) Pete, I’m giving you the green light for a gay romance novel about Chris. Chris, you’ll have a captive audience for an hour - make it unhinged and with as many references to your early work as possible!
Same here - Discovered it on holidays in the Philippines and watched the whole thing in a single day. Was gutted to hear they’d not been renewed for S2, especially given that the creator had the story ready to rock.
You would have to sacrifice the quality of your videos to rush them out at that punishing daily schedule. Better to publish them on a more generous schedule that allows you to maintain your usual standards for quality video content. I enjoy your videos very much and don’t mind waiting for them.
If you have to dwell on the JAJ schedule then do so in a positive way. Even someone who has reached your level of professional production realised this undertaking was too much whilst maintaining a level of quality you expect from yourself but you now know what would be required to attempt something close to what you envisioned and you can decide if you want to try it in the future. I think it is clear your fanbase is more than happy with your decision but you are lucky enough that we love you so much (and are talented and care enough about your content) that we would have probably loved whatever you put out if you stuck with 1 per day... Thanks for the years of videos, keep them coming!
Third Window Films shoutout! Never thought I'd hear about them here. They are a fantastic distributor for Japanese films on Blu-ray. Radiance films has been doing great work since they started last year, Arrow and Criterion have been main stays for Japanese film releases for a long time now.
Don't know if Sid is reading.. just to add to the working in Cafe's question, just make sure that the calls you dial into are just listening in ones, or else you might annoy others if you are constantly talking to your laptop. Don't know where its from, but it might be a spill over from the rule not to take calls on the train. Have fun in Japan!
Chez Remy on Watanabe-dori Tenjin. It's a very busy yatai that always has a lineup. The oden cart right next to it is not so busy but it's very delicious. Highly recommend Watatanabe-dori yatai over the Nakasu ward Yatai.
I love the film and the anime of 'My Happy Marriage'. The actor in the film who plays Kudo Kiyoko is outstanding in my opinion. He's also on Netflix in a show called 'Trillions'. I hope that this helps 🤔
I wanted to look up that skyscraper Chris mentioned. While I didn't find that, I did find plans for The Sky Mile Tower, which Tokyo wants to build in its bay by 2045 and which will be twice the size of the Burj Khalifa
I tend to agree, while Hiroshima is a stunning and sad experience, Nagasaki‘s Museum is well worth a visit and shows even more details and background. Museum is a little hidden though. Both are a very sad experience and many Japanese (and myself) cried when seeing the stories and history. Hope this never happens again in this crazy world.
I was very honoured to meet a British POW survivor of Nagasaki. He was an engineer from HMS EXETER, taken to Japan to work, against the Geneva convention of course!. They were mining coal and were in the fresh air when the bombing happened. The US planes had been overflying daily, sometimes bombing sometimes dropping leaflets. At the end of the war the guards started to be nice to them. Now the story I was told was the bomb was dropped on the modern part of Nagasaki and there was a hill between them and the bomb site. The morning it happened they were in the open air and the guard offered them all cigarettes. Peter didn't smoke but was having one anyway. When it went off they were sat at the bottom of a coal slag heap and had their backs to it. Unharmed they thought the bombs had hit the ammunition /fuel depot/factory. He hated the Japanese and everything about them. They and their shipmates suffered terribly at the hands of the Japanese, when he visited us we couldn't serve curry, rice or chicken. These old boys were in their 80's when I met them, they never forgot nor forgave.
All of the Kurasawa films, the Seven Samurai, Ran, Throne of Blood, etc. All beautifully shot and although old are fascinating, most having influenced many more famous but poorer Holywood films.

No jk, Gpt is very useful to brainstorm ideas. Although maybe not too good to write the speech, you can use it to find a topic to talk about and even to organize how you'll go about explaining it as well.
#thefaxmachine Dear courteous Chris and Polite Pete, As a fellow cheese lover I deeply enjoy hearing you talk about your passion for cheese and the holly Camembert. I am wanting to try more cheeses from around the world and not just the ones from my local area in the U.S. I was wondering what cheeses Pete may enjoy and what kinds of cheeses in Japan you would recommend. In the past I have heard you gripe about the severe lack of quality cheese in Japan however, I would hope that there are at least some decent examples in Japan but if not I am deeply sorry. From a viewer curious about the cheese world
What happened to Hiroshima and Nagasaki should of course never never happen again. The historical documents and accounts of hibakushas are so heartbreaking… And yet there are people and countries that never seem to learn anything. Think Russia, North Korea, China…
Ironic you reference these countries when they all have nuclear weapons as deterrence from Western countries and the only country to actually use them on civilians is the US. I'd be more worried of the US using it again than anything.
AI is a great framework maker for sure. Start with a sort of ballpark area, then go through section by section refining. don't spend hours making a speech from the ground up, spend a couple hours making a framework speech great.
It's so strange that Westerners find it controversial or taboo even to condemn the nuking of defenseless Japanese civilians. Targeting defenseless civilians is evil no matter who does it for whatever excuse.
yeah chris all these bombings are wild imagine any country doing such a thing these days wow the past is insane amazing how you wouldn't expect a free democratic peaceful nation doing such insane acts of war bombing raping torturing wow the past is insane chris wouldnt happen these days
I know you were sarcastic, but the US and the UK doing that in Afghanistan Iraq and Libya and those same 2 countries assisting Israhelll in doing that to the people of Gaza.
Hey there! 🌟 Totally agree with you on how awesome ChatGPT is! 🚀 It's incredible how it adds a whole new dimension to the Abroad in Japan podcast. many people do not like to adress the elephant in the room... well the buble wouldt burst if some "friendly country" made japan go from stable currency course 300=1$ to unstable first *greetings makasa and than with other" firendly countries" buy out all yen to get the course to 1$= 100 aka a 300% deflation. if you know ecomimics you will know that deflation is a deathsentece for an economy because of those "friendly nations" japan economy has fallen down and stays on the buttom for over 30 years now wher the inflation is getting higher and the "friendly nation" is gettng weaker, that might be japans chance to get out of the pitfall.. if it goes down for at least 200yen=1$ there are chances to get big again through export as they have used to
I don't mind that the uploads were not daily. Heck, give me some interesting content on a weekly basis and I will be happy. What bothers me is the actual quality of the content. Journey across Japan used to focus on the places Chris visits and the new people he meets. But the last series... I am not even sure what this was all about. They drive a little bit, then they go to a dollar shop to buy some cheap crap, joke about it for a minute, grab something that looks like ramen to eat - episode done. In the next one they drive for a little bit, then they go to 7-eleven, buy some crappy snacks, eat them in the hotel room, joke about it - one more episode done. In the latest one they drive for a little bit, go to an abandoned school, record a clip - episode done. Where is Japan in all of this? Where are the interesting places, the culture, the people? You might as well stay in Tokyo and take the driving out of the equation it would be all the same. Don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of the channel, but the latest journey was weak content quality-wise...
I and a lot of other people absolutely love the new Dr. Jelly rap. Well done Joey.
Chris is going to crash Apple Music top charts again xD
"Opportunities knocked on my door - literally!" 🤣
Chris: "I can't speak for eight minutes, let alone an hour"
Proceeds to publish many podcasts 😂
That's why it's a two host podcast. He needs that verbal interaction.
No worries AT ALL about the schedule of video releases. They are created with care, and they take as long as they take. "They are worth waiting for."

Chris, I watched all of Giri/Haji!!
It was great 😃
I bloody loved Giri/Haji! Really was a great watch!

I loved the unscripted, off the cuff start of the podcast. More of that!
Great shout for Girir/Haji, what a great serirs. Does anyone know if it 3was a critical success in Japan?
Love watching your podcast, would like to see you film it in your new old-school Japanese lounge room.

was it a PAL-M reference? was it a three pin reference? did anyone get it?

I love Chris' vids too 😮😮😮😮😂😂😂😂😂
Take a shot every time you hear "bonkers"
I'm surprised Chris hasn't made an AI related video like "An AI told me to do these things in Tokyo"
This is the most British podcast :D

There's an Old Book called "The Forgotten Bomb" about the Nagasaki A Bombing.

Midnight Diner is pretty good.
Lol, that speech!! 🤣
How hasn’t the news of POW deaths due to the atomic bomb been big news in the US? I’m glad I see this podcast and found this out.
Dear Cruciferous Chris and Pusillanimous Pete... I don't really have a comment, just wanted to do that.
I hate to break it to you, but Jamie Oliver's War on the Twizzler was more like 20 years ago at this point. we're all getting old
When I heard the Dr Jelly rap, I was like, "Oh yeah, that's why we don't have Anitube rap battles anymore. Joey bodied everyone."
