Holiness is not the same as religiosity even though religion is important for holiness. It boils down to your personal relationship with God, deep reflection about Him, faithfulness and living according to his commands. One of the biggest challenge in our present day Christianity is to think pentecostalism 'fire for fire' brand of prayers is the real and powerful prayer which God answers faster. That's very misguided. More often than not, these misconceptions deviate many of us away from the fountains of holiness in mere pursuit of miracle rather than looking unto Jesus and "Him who is crucified". This is why in Nigeria today, the proliferation of Churches doesn't correspond to our moral conducts. Many don't look for the holiness of God, they merely look for miracles. That's why many of us keep trooping to wherever 'it's happening'. Many times, we don't care to evaluate the spirit with which some of these people operate. Evil spirit also casts another evil spirit, if is superior to it. Devil also perform miracles. We need to be very careful where we are going. The Catholic Church especially some of our our modern day priests need not be influenced by these hullabaloos. We must not think that our ways are no longer correct or fitting to the holiness demands of the contemporary society. We must take our catechism serious and provide basic Theology to the lay faithful. That will help to reset our brains against so many anomalies and fallacies. Holiness is the key at end of the day and Christ has given us all we need to be holy.
"If you are a miracle, you will work miracles, but if your life is not a miracle to others and you work miracles, your condemnation will be great". -Bishop Onah. (Very deep and insightful. Thank you, Father Bishop).
May God give us more ministers like Bishop Onah so that Catholic doctrines will survive in our society, especially in Igboland. Yes, some Catholic priests have gone off the rails, but those asking them to leave Ebuka Obi alone are missing the points, too. First, Ebuka claims he's a Catholic, but he's not ready to let the Catholic leadership into his activities. We are able to assess the performance of the priests because we know the vows they make for priesthood. Nobody knows the vows Ebuka made and to whom he vowed to serve. All the public knows about his calling is what he said about himself. What kind of society shall we have if we accept whatever everyone says about themselves? Ebuka said he's a prophet commissioned secretly by God. But he's now addressed as an evangelist. Which one is he? An evangelist is one committed to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, i.e. .calls people to accept the salvation earned for them on the cross, guide them to carry their cross, and follow their Savior. Settling marriage disputes, giving people money, working 'miracles', boasting of crowd size, lashing out at those who genuinely question his credibility, assuring people that the cross is not necessary in their lives and campaigning for vile politicians like America's Trump and Hope Uzodinma, all have nothing to do with evangelization. Our people are being lured out of the churches where they go to seek the face, mercy, and blessing of God to centers where they are fed the opium that there should no cross in their lives but miracles, miracles, miracles! That's what this true servant of God - Bishop Onah - is hammering at every now and then. May God sustain him even as some of his brother bishops are being compromised by allowing priests under them to exploit our ignorant and gullible brothers and sisters.
Your take would have been 100% sound if you did not descend to judging which Christ warned against. What makes you think you are better than the people you called vile?
My lordship thank you very much . Please see what is happening now in Igbo land . Christianity can never die ..let's fight this fight . Nnadi Kanu said it and it's happening . Very soon . God fight this fight for us .
You are The greatest among the Bishops. I wish the whole homily was fully in English. The caution you advised today is well taken. We pray for the discerning spirit to be able to know the miracles from Christ.
Dear father bishop, thanks for your homily…quite clear but it appears to me that you don’t believe in miracles but in the time of Jesus, people were following him, listening to his teachings, healings and all miracles he was performing. If the crowd did not see these miracles, do you think such crowds would be following him? People want to go and pray where Jesus is Lord not old theories of thousands of years ago. Dear bishop I think you and your priests should pray and seek the face of God before the boat leaves you behind .
Thank you my father Bishop - but please, our younger confirmation catechumens should be trained in basic scriptural exegesis to understand Scripture better just as you explained the difference between sending out the 12 Apostles and sending out the 72 disciples. God bless you 🙏🙏🙏
The catholic church in Nigeria needs to do more in teaching it's members more of the doctrine. There needs to be a deeper explanation of the bible. Most understand the bible at a surface level that is why they tend to drift towards pentecostalism. They are more concerned about miracle workers and sharp sharp answer to prayers. They fire brands churches are taking our members gradually. Also the priest needs to sit up in discharging their duties and stop bringing aspects of pentecostalism to the church.
That's why Catholic priests should stop pestering Evang Ebuka Obi. He is doing better than some of the priests in spreading God's message. His teachings are morally sound. Jesus Christ didn't allow his Apostles to stop some people using his name to work. As IDP is being set up in South East, all Christians should concentrate on how to safeguard that part of Nigeria. Very soon there may not be any christian to preach to.
Firstly you didn't watch the sermon at all or didn't watch to understand it. Secondly Ebuka Obi is of the devil and highly demonic. There's nothing Godly about him. Better flee while you can.
Your Grace O Lord to BE a miracle wherever l am 🙏
