    I was at my parents house during the hurricane, I was quite sure nothing would happen since my parents house NEVER floods. I guess the saying never say never is quite accurate to say. And when they say historic flooding boy they ain't exaggerating, it's devestating seeing my parents SEEING their house flooded , but thankfully i can say we are all alive. #PRAYERSFORMYFELLOWHOUSTONIANS

      Jay Violet You questioning this has brought me to believe you're struggling w hope, idk you but whatever it is you will get through it, this is not for you to get offended that's not what I'm striving for , I don't go to to church every Sunday, come to think of it I don't remember the last time I went to church not saying that you need to but that is my point , john 16:33.
      God never promised us life would be easy had it been we would have eternal life had it been we wouldn't suffer w people we lovingly know dying ... news flash there will forever be hardships/struggles in the world in life in general ... the point is to have hope in HIM. That as a person as a human being makes you stronger . I won't knock you tho I've been there where you're at .
      And lastly all I can say is no judgement.

I wen't thru Katrina there is no way I was gonna stay. People need to stop listening to these politicians on when they should evacuate. They will be safe, the question is will you?

      A lot of these "politicians" are telling people to stay because they know if they tell everyone to evacuate it would only make the situation worse. Do you remember Rita? That is why Houston was told to not evacuate.

    • @DKim2019
      @DKim2019 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      fuqu
      1) That's one of the stupidest pieces of advice I've ever heard. If your life is on the line, no one would turn to politics. If you were drowning and the only person who had a life preserver ring was a liberal, would you ignore it if they threw it at you?
      2) Fair enough. Generally only murderers would tell you to stop struggling to die quicker though.

  • @jeffsanders1609
    @jeffsanders1609 7 ปีที่แล้ว +172

    As a Houstonian, I defend the mayors decision not to evacuate the city. Where the heck would everybody have gone?! We're the 4th largest city in the country with over 4 million people in the Houston area! The best place for 4 million people is here in our city even if it is under water it's better then being under water in your car

    • @roseryan1542
      @roseryan1542 7 ปีที่แล้ว +52

      Yep. Most of them would still be on the road, bumper to bumper, in flooded areas waiting still. It's impossible to evacuate that many people in a day or two and any earlier than that is ridiculous because you can't tell exactly where a hurricane will make landfall that far out. It's not like these things don't change direction.

    • @eliminatorxx713xx
      @eliminatorxx713xx 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Jeff Sanders I agree look what happened rita (I think it was that hurricane). Millions of people evacuated only to be stranded hundreds of people died stranded out of heat of exhaustion... Yeah we got super f'd by the water but thankfully there was people at the rescue dramatically minimizing loss of life. Stay safe my friends.

    • @ItzelHernandez-zm2jo
      @ItzelHernandez-zm2jo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jeff Sanders obviously people would leave to different places, are you stupid ? Many of my friends homes are practically five feet flooded. It was a mistake to not have issued an evacuation warning.

    • @eliminatorxx713xx
      @eliminatorxx713xx 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Itzel Hernandez It would have cause more harm than good... Plus there were other places like Galveston ect. evacuating. It would have been worse as people would have drown simultaneously since it would have taken at least 2-3 days to flush everyone out.

    • @jeffsanders1609
      @jeffsanders1609 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      But the storm is being sent so other things can happen. People are sacrificing their time, homes, energy, etc on other people. Maybe this storm is the thing that will push people together even though there's suffering involved. How can you learn if there is no problem or mistake to learn from? From suffering, you'll learn to value lives, to be compassionate, to be supportive. Without suffering, you may never actually learn.

    • @chrisea
      @chrisea 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Don't listen to Judyy the only reason the flooding was so bad this year was because of the Hurricane the annual floods that happen usually only happen near the Bayou and Downtown. This year was different than usual because of the area that it affected. I got stuck downtown at a 59 Diner and Whataburger in 2015 after a con and when the storm was over drove back home using 6-10 to I-10 back home to Katy and everything was fine over there. Like I said this was a cat 4 hurricane so ofc you're going to get way more rain and heavy winds so flooding is amplified. My advice if you're still worried is to evacuate ahead of time if you don't feel safe and get flood insurance for your home.

I grew up in Florida so I know what a bad hurricane is like and when I was about 7-10 (so 2006-2009) I remember one where the water was up to our thighs and cars were floating away and we were stuck at a beach club throughout the night. Its horrible and traumatizing and for people who don't have much to begin with to lose their homes and possession is heart breaking. May they recover quickly

      Yes pray. Your god ignored the prayers of millions during the plague of the 14th century. Christians prayed and prayed. When prayer failed, they turned to self-flagellation. When that failed, they blamed the Jews. Your god does not exist. You and your ilk can argue all day long about it, and thumb down the sane people, but if you really knew the history of Christendom, you would know it's (your god and religion) a huge scam.

      I think a lot of them are from people who are upset that everyone suddenly forgot about Hurricane Katrina and the damage it did. I can understand that but this is the storm that's happening now, not Katrina. Katrina was catastrophic, yes, but it shouldn't take much more importance than a storm happening right now.

      @Woody German....All I did was point out the fact that people are upset that Katrina is being forgotten while Harvey's battering Texas. That is all. I did not say that Harvey wasn't important. All I said was that people are getting upset that a storm that happened over a decade ago isn't being brought up. You didn't have to be rude at all.

    I'm from Beaumont, and while Southeast Texas is taking a hard hit, with houses flooding and major highways blocked due to water in most of the surrounding cities, we have not had anything quite like what is happening in Houston. It has been so hard to feel so helpless while seeing these videos from friends, family members, and news stations all over my social media. It breaks my heart to see what the people of Houston and Rockport are enduring while knowing it is only going to get worse in the days to come as Harvey swings into the Gulf only to make landfall back over Houston/Beaumont. My city about 15 mikes from Beaumont has all four direction leading out of the city blocked off due to flooding, and there is not much any of us can do but keep ourselves afloat. My heart is so heavy. I sincerely hope there is a light to lead us out of this dark storm. Keep Houston in your thoughts.
