I get the feeling neither one truly wanted to kill the other. Uryu kinda spoonfed Renji important info at the beginning of their fight (that Yhwach absorbed the soul king). I’m an anime watcher and believe Uryu is playing an espionage role to perfection. Another part that’s makes me believe this is that Haschwalth doesn’t seem to trust him completely. Every time Uryu does something we get Haschwalth noticing and watching closely. Happened 4 times already (when he brought him in at Yhwach’s order he was hesitant, when Uryu activated his Vorl Stern Dich the first time and took out Senjumaru, when he took out Ichigo, and this time when he was fighting Renji). Whichever the case it was pretty sad seeing these 2 fight. They used to be friends, have history together especially in Hueco Mundo when they teamed up against Szayelaporro. Seeing them address each other as just ‘Quincy’ and ‘Shinigami’ was tough
Ishida did say that Renji hesitated. Most likely cuz he still sees Ishida as a friend. Realize that Ishida shot Renji with the same arrow that he used on Ichigo but different impacts. Huge hole on Ichigo, small one on Renji.

Basically, Kisuke Urahara tricked her into wearing it because he said Ichigo would like it. Why? Because it's Urahara, of course he would do that.
Renji definitely couldn't kill Ishida, Ishida was just implying that renji was destined to lose the fight plus uryuu wasn't trying until he used sklave rai. We need to keep in mind that now Uryuu is a Elite Sternritter quincy and top tier in the verse, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that renji lost.

The Quincy however will always hold the advantage in any of the spiritual realms because of the nature of their power being reishi dominance. Everything is made lf reishi even the bodies of other spiritual beings. Also no Renji had no chance of actually killing Ishida, but I cant say why without spoiling.
Sometimes people choose their family over friendship that what it is. Why it is so hard to digest. I know in the end Protagonist side and frends always comes together to beat antagonist but get some border prospects man Can you forgive the side of the enemy who killed you kinship it is not just this side or that side it's about Justice. Quincy can't live in world where they have to fight in two front battle. With Hollow and Soul Reaper.

The quinces can absorb reishi wherever they are. The royal palace only made the amount higher than usual.
